  • All-Korean Stylist Team although there is a number of local hair assistants
  • Team is closely knitted
  • Service feels sincere as they will proactively ask if you're hungry and buy food for you

Not-So-Happy-With

  • Not easy to get here via Orchard MRT; you need to walk at least 7-10 minutes.
  • Surroundings are not particularly luxurious and can be a little cramped
  • Not the cheapest hair salon you'll find.
  • Service level not as high as what you'd expect from Japanese salons e.g. in terms of consultation, gentleness when washing hair and application of colour
  • Stylists can handle 3-4 customers at one time.
  • Miscommunication may occur particularly if the salon is busy
  • Do confirm prices before service starts to avoid miscommunication

Stylists who can changed your life

Review for Mina

6th visit within 2 months - In fact I am having a difficult time to choose my assigned stylists because all of them (Lisa, Jessica & Mina) are simply that good! My experience with Mina today was another surprise. She advised me not to cut my hair short after explaining about the texture of my hair and face shape. Instead, she re-designed my hair and the outcome was a WIN. You know how their management and stylists put clients on priority when Mina ran after me and told me she forgottten to key in the discount for me as I had visited 2 weeks ago. Impressed. Detailed hair consultation, skillful stylists, trendy look, friendly assistants, reasonable prices and most importantly, no hard selling- what else can you ask for more?

Have a Hairstyle You Can Be Proud Of

Review for Lisa

There must be a reason why I am writing at this late hour (2nd review) - they are really good and I want to share good things with people. This is my 2nd visit to Aqua Hair Salon on which I had a haircut and another perm. After my first visit couple of weeks ago, most of my colleagues had nothing but full of praises about my new hairstyle. Does that make you feel great and motivated at work? Yes! No up-selling, no hidden costs, no unnecessary procedures - Lisa went straight to access my hair condition and denied to perm my whole head again because she said it will do more damage. Skillful, putting customers' interests at heart and quality is what it brings me back to Aqua Hair salon again and I am gonna stick with them forever! *Guys, for those who have never permed their hair before, I strongly recommend you all to do it because the humid weather makes it difficult to style our hair and always look flat. Once you try, you will never go back again! I'll vouch for Aqua!

Bad perm experience

Review for Mina

After reading good reviews and comments, I went to Aqua for my scalp treatment for the first time and I love everything about the shop including service and environment. So I went down there again with the thought of either perm or rebond my hair. My hair is frizzy tho it’s not naturally curl. So I actually want to get rid of those frizz and I asked if I should perm or rebond. The stylist suggested to do rebond at the top and perm below. I asked my perm area would be frizzy and she said no, so I agreed to do it. I told her that I don’t want very curly and she said okay. But sadly I really don’t like my perm at all and I went back home with much regrets. Next morning I woke up with frizzy and dry perm that I put so much oil on it. But still I hated the curl that I straightened all out with flat iron and it become more frizzy. I am going to cut all of the frizz curly hair. It’s really just a waste after spending so much money on it. I really love the Stylists from Aqua, they all are nice and friendly, even gave me ramen and snacks coz I was hungry. But still my perm experience was a disappointment.

Men's Perm

Review for Lisa

Having lived in Seoul for the past 4 years, I’m so used to getting my hair done by Korean stylists. I decided to visit Aqua after intensive research and you know what, the good reviews indeed didn’t prove my decision wrong! The stylist Lisa first accessed my hair and explained in detailed what needs to be done. End result far surpassed my expectations and I would say that this humble korean salon is even better than Juno Hair in Korea! Most importantly the price is really reasonable! Not only I will visit again but to share this experience with all my friends!

Normal salon pricing and service

Review for Jessica Kim

I tried out Aqua as I read on BU that it's an affordable priced salon with great customer service. Their skills and service is not bad, but I wouldn't make it my go-to hair salon. It's not particularly accessible for me not offer a particularly attractive pricing. To be fair, they offered me cup noodles when they noticed I was hungry and was eating their snacks. The haircut is surprisingly affordable at $55, the cheapest among the salons I've been to. It's more of a simple cut. I've gotten compliments from other salons for cuts but not from here though. Perhaps I need another stylist. Other than cuts, I find the other hair services priced normally, comparable to other salons, so I don't see how it's more affordable. I usually go to Japanese hair salons so I'm not sure about Korean salon pricing. The stylists here are skilled but I can't say the same of the assistants. There's one assistant that wasn't very good at washing hair and sprayed water over my face and got water in my ears. I find that they might not be pushy, but they aren't totally upfront about charges. I just went for a touch up rebonding ($250). A month back I went to colour my hair and paid about $280. I found it quite pricey but it could be the products they use, to give the benefit of the doubt. I had asked then about rebonding and I was informed that it'll cost $250 with treatment. So I didn't ask again on the day of rebonding. I was quite surprised and irritated that I was charged another $280 for hair treatment, making a total of $480 (I can't remember the misc charges). I had thought there's treatment included in the price for rebonding. I wasn't asked beforehand whether I wanted to add on treatment. It's quite a rude shock when your bill shows more than double the price you expected. I'm all for spending on my hair, but I don't like it that I had to pay so much more for smthg I'm not informed about. They then promoted their stored value package to buy $900 worth of credit with $800. I bought the package in the end as they offered a $70 discount on my bill. I have a hunch that they didn't inform me about the hair treatment to promote the package. Ive tried many hair treatments and my bill never exceeded $230. I'll probably use up the remaining credit on basic hair services like coloring and hair cuts.

Aside from the miscommunication for hair treatment, I'm satisfied with my touch up rebonding which made my hair more voluminous we'sithout being stick straight. I believe Aqua would uphold its promise to improve service level. So to everyone who's thinking of visiting Aqua, give it a shot ?

Updated: Justin of Aqua Hair Salon has called me and we agreed that this incident is a case of miscommunication. As such, I have accepted their gesture of goodwill to refund the cost of my hair treatment and package, which would be processed via bank transfer. I was sharing my thoughts on my hair services and genuinely did not expect anything out of writing this review. I appreciate the offer as Aqua is not obliged to process the refunds, which tells me Aqua takes customer feedback seriously.

Dear Suyoung

Thank you for visiting Aqua Hair Korean Salon.

We are sorry to hear that your recent experience with us wasn’t as optimal as we had hoped. We checked with the stylist in charge what happened.

From what we understand, the stylist shared with you that the hair condition is very damaged and therefore required additional treatments to make sure that the rebonding looked sleek and easily manageable afterwards. She went ahead with the treatment with your agreement. However, it appears as if our stylist did not communicate the pricing as clearly as she should have done.

As it is our policy to be very transparent about pricing with customers, we would like to process a refund of the hair treatment price ($230) to show our sincere apologies.

We also note that you have purchased our package. The package is intended to reward loyal customers who come back regularly to Aqua as it offers a 10% discount as well as extra value if you sign up for the package. Should customers not feel satisfied with our service, they can request for a refund of the remaining value of the package sans any discount given previously. Hence, do let us know and we will do so for you.

Thank you once again for visiting Aqua Hair Korean Salon. We have taken note of your feedback and have already informed the relevant staff. We will also be undergoing further training to ensure that the service level improves in every area.

Hope that you will visit us again in the future and witness the improvement for yourself J

Warm regards

In love with Aqua

Review for Jessica Kim

The team was attentive and friendly from the time I entered. The salon decor may not be the best that I've been to but Jessica Kim is definitely the best I had! She's not pushy, friendly and is professional who does not criticize others cut but managed to transform my dull looking hair into bouncy one!

See through bangs

Review for Moon Hyunju

The staff are friendly and the ambience is nice but the end result was nothing I had in mind. I found Zinc from beautyundercover and got really beautiful see through bangs from them. But since their salon was too far away, I settled for Aqua Hair Korean Salon(which I found on this website) to cut my see through bangs. The bangs that I got were a far cry from see through bangs. They were thick and the side pieces were short so it didn’t frame my face. I was devastated and hoped that I could go to another hair salon to fix it. The hair stylist told me that there was nothing he could do to help me because the side pieces were too short for me to have see through bangs and he told me to come back next year. I felt bad for hoping they could make my bangs a miracle from the mess that they got it. I’ll never go back to Aqua Hair Korean Salon to cut my hair ever again due to my experience.

Dear Lynn

Thank you for visiting Aqua.

We are sorry to hear that the fringe cut did not meet your expectations.

When we checked with our stylist what happened, he was surprised because it seems as if you were pleased with the cut on that day. It seems as if some miscommunication has occurred and we would very much like to see what we can do to help you achieve the hairstyle you're looking for.

Would it be possible for you to come back to the salon so that we can take a look?

If you're not comfortable, we would like to offer you a refund as well as a complimentary hair treatment to show our sincere apologies.

Very sorry and hope that you'll give us a second chance!

Warm regards

Nice C curl perm

I did my C curl perm (shoulder length) (rebonding roots) with Jessica in Feb 2017. The curls still there even after 5 months. Jessica is skillful and I love the hair design she did for me. Overall, good experience and will go back again.

The result? I. loved. it. much.

Review for Moon Hyunju

I love k-culture and have been immersed in it for close to 6 years now. It started with Running Man and quickly morphed into a crazy love for everything K – food, hairstyles, fashion, people, drama and history. For the longest time I’ve wanted to get a Korean hairstylist to do my hair, and when I finally did at Aqua Korean Hair Salon, I did it over very few words and lots of quiet flipping of CeCi magazines.

You need to completely trust that a Korean hairstylist knows exactly what to do when you give him simple words like ‘short’, ‘c-curl’ and ‘volume rebond’, and even then with Moon, my stylist, he was first to suggest I was good to go with just an A-line bob because my hair’s really straight anyway, and if I were to be diligent to blow dry it daily, I would have a similar c-curl effect. I liked that he was honest, and didn’t try to hard sell anything that didn’t make sense.

But I’ve always wanted to try the c-curl and know for a fact that no one else would do it better than a Korean (plus I love Kim Ji Won’s hair in DOTS) and told Moon to go ahead and try it on me.

And he did. He unassumingly worked on every strand and step, with quiet confidence and finesse.

The result? I. loved. it. much.

Excellent service and cozy environment

Went to Aqua for a hair cut and perm and I'm pretty much 9/10 satisfied!

Made an appointment with them and I got assigned to Jessica, who was super nice. I was kind of nervous since I wasn't sure if we'd be able to overcome the language barrier (I'm quite fluent in basic Korean but it's kind of awkward to jump right into Korean with someone you don't even know...), but she managed to understand what I want!

I have pretty flat/thin hair and a round face so she suggested perming it after a cut so that my face looks less fat lol

Basically the entire process went like this: cut, wash, pre-treatment(?), wash, perm, post-treatment(?), wash (it was my first time perming my hair so I wasn't really sure what was going on lol) but that's basically the gist of it. Jessica was with me 80% of the time (the hairwashes were done by an assistant, and the post-treatment was done by Lisa), and she was really friendly! Her English is good enough to hold up a decent conversation so you don't have to worry too much about it. After she was done, Jessica taught me how to blowdry and manage my perm by myself, and gave me tips on how to grow my bangs out so that my face would look even smaller woohoo

Here's what made me really impressed during my day at Aqua: they give you a cushion at your seat so you don't have to fiddle with your hands awkwardly underneath the cape and they provide a drink and snacks. Also, because I went in before lunch time, they asked me if I'd eaten and bought me fishball noodles for me T_T This probably isn't a given for every customer so don't walk in expecting a free lunch lol

But I was really touched since I was a first-time customer!! ;____;

Anyway I'm really pleased with my hair perm now! I got a C curl perm at the ends of my hair + my bangs. However, one side started to turn outwards (I have no idea why) throughout the day D: But it wen back to normal after I washed my hair (after at least 24 hours after the perm) so it's no biggie for me.

In total I spent $300 for a cut and perm. Pretty worth it for the pretty result, excellent service and cozy environment! Definitely going to go back there again :)

Thanks to my lovely stylist, Jessica

Review for Jessica Kim

I badly needed a haircut, the last time i trimmed my hair was more than 6 months ago and last week, i finally visited Aqua Hair Korean Salon to fix my hair.

Conveniently located in town, Aqua is easily accessible from almost anywhere. I like their cozy decorations, makes me feel so at home.

The 'kitchen' and TV area where the staff will have their meals and brew coffee and drinks for their customers. I really liked this area, i have not seen any other hair salons with a mini kitchen area.

Another cozy area inside the salon where you can sit around and read some magazines while waiting for time to pass during your hair treatment.

The front treatment area.

Area for hair wash.

I was given a nice warm cup of Korean Tea.

Along with the tea above, i was also given some snacks to munch.

I wanted to change my hairstyle as i was quite sick of my hair, it's so boring. My fringe grew out a lot and the weight of it made my hair looked very flat on top. In my mind, i had lots of things which i wanted to do, like giving it some natural Korean waves, cutting it short, giving it a root perm for some volume, colouring it etc. But of course i couldn't do everything today so i had to choose what i wanted.

My Korean stylist Jessica gave me some suggestions and in the end, we settled with colouring my hair, perming my fringe and trimming the rest of my crown.

And so, my hair makeover begins!!! Curlers were attached to my fringe. The fringe perm not only curled my fringe but it also gave my roots a little more volume so that it wouldn't look so flat, limp and lifeless.

My fringe was then 'heated' up under the steamer/dryer.

Lotion was applied to my curled up fringe and a tower was wrapped around my fringe and head area to prevent the lotion from dripping.

Hair dye was then applied all over my head.

I was then given a hand massage while waiting for the hair dye to set.

Followed by a neck and shoulder massage!!! Ample strength was applied and i really liked the massage.

At this point of time, i was really excited to see how my hair would turn out to be like.

Around half an hour later....

My new hair after the nice stylists blowed my hair dry and gave it some curls.

Check out my new copper orange coloured hair! Finally a change after so many months.

Thanks to my lovely stylist, Jessica for choosing this vibrant colour for me.
