Vellus has been my hair salon choice since 2014, where it excel in its personalised service and hair colours expertise. They were able to do colours that normal salons don't. Though prices are high-end, you can get discounts for being a member, which you can pay it bit-by-bit during each visit. Very suitable for Poly/uni students! (:

Similar to what I had done to my hair last week, I bought another Groupon to highlight my hair! The worrywart that I am will always research for reviews before I buy a Groupon, and I have found many positive reviews about Vellus Hair Studio (with only a handful of negative ones), so I decided to go ahead with it and see how it turns out. I am extremely happy that I have found such a wonderful hair salon not too far from my new place and be treated like a princess there! This is the main pull factor for customers returning to Vellus Hair Studio at Tanjong Pagar (will share more about how to get there).

I was pleasantly surprised when I stepped into the salon! It looks very rustic and chill and I really fell in love with the decor! It makes customers feel so relaxed! The red plush sofas were comfy too! I think the charging station for electronic devices are meant for the customers but I didn't ask about it because I didn't have to charge my phone - but if that was true, Vellus is indeed very thoughtful! 
Even the toilet is so pretty!

Upon reaching, I was asked to choose a complimentary drink before being led to a private room. Again, I was taken aback by the special and sweet service they offered! I chose the Cranberry Sunrise, and halfway through my treatment, instead of just refilling my tea pot (yes, it comes in a tea pot!) with hot water, they actually asked me if I wanted to try another kind of tea! So I did, based on their recommendation, and I chose the Peach Breeze this time (:

They even provided Wi-Fi! The call button was for the convenience of the customer to call for the stylist.
Josie led me to a private room (they have 3 private rooms and one washing area) where she then asked me whether I would like to highlight or dye my hair, and also explained the services offered at the salon. First, she scanned my scalp to show me the condition of my scalp and then I can decide if I wanted to add on a scalp treatment. I didn't take a picture of my scalp even though she asked me if I wanted to. She explained the condition of my scalp and how the scalp treatment can help in improving the condition. 

They were having this special promotion for first-time customers - 50% off all services! So she offered me the following:

Hair cut at $34 instead of $68
Scalp protection at $30 (no further discount)
Scalp treatment at $74 instead of $148

She then gave me some time to consider, with no hard-selling AT ALL. I found the prices still quite expensive so I didn't take any of the services she offered.

I wanted to do some highlights on my already reddish-brown hair, as suggested by my makeup artist for my wedding next Saturday, but I told Josie I didn't want to bleach my hair as it would be damaging to my hair. So I asked her to choose the lightest colour she could do the highlights so that they would be obvious enough. I had to top up an additional $20 because my hair length was beyond mid-back.

While she left me in the private room with the rotating heater on (it is a recliner chair by the way), I was Googling for blog posts and reviews about their scalp treatment to decide whether it is necessary. I was considering because I wanted to rebond my hair soon after my wedding as it is super frizzy and I hate how wavy my hair is! After much consideration, when we came in to check on my hair, I told her that I would like to do the scalp treatment too.

The 20-min scalp therapy was extremely comfortable because the treatment was herbal and felt cooling on my scalp. The massage was sooooo good I almost fell asleep!

Then I had my hair treatment and it was one of the best ever! When I asked Josie, 'Oh so now you're going to put the normal hair treatment?', she forbade me from saying that! She said that it was a special hair treatment actually, because the treatment was made from clay instead of oil. The clay wouldn't make your scalp oily like how a normal oil treatment would. It also smelled very nice! After she had spent a lot of time coating my hair with the treatment (I have a lotttt of hair and my mane is pretty thick), she then reclined my chair with the additional of a head rest. She placed my hair into something like a shower cap and connected it to a machine, and I guess that was the ozone hair therapy. She even covered me with a shawl in case I got cold and dimmed the lights in the private room so I could get a short nap while my hair was undergoing treatment.

My hair smelt reallyyyy nice after the treatment and was silky smooth even after one whole day and night (I didn't wash my hair until the next evening)!! The service was really very good, I love it!!

Seriously, I have never heard of them before. (I guess Groupon is one of the ways for merchants to gain more awareness about their business?)
As the price was kinda attractive (Only $18 for Boce Hair Treatment + Wash + Blow), I thought I would give it a try.
Furthermore, the venue was located quite conveniently near Tanjong Pagar MRT. Definitely worth checking out!
Not to mention that I have my BFF going with me as well and we'll be trying out their services together! =D

Unfortunately, I did not capture any photograph during the journey since I didn't intend to blog about it, but later changed my mind after the hair treatment (You will see why later).

I was taken aback by the salon's interior when I first set my foot in. In all honesty, it is a salon that does not look like a salon AT ALL. I was expecting to see some kind of standard salon chairs neatly lined in a row - but trust me, you will not believe your eyes when you see it for yourself. Unlike most salons, Vellus Hair Studio provides you all the privacy and comfort you'll need. Yes, you heard it right - You will have ONE room all to yourself. 
So.. Basically, you can sleep, shake your leg, dig your nose, scratch your armpit for all you need - Nobody is there to watch (... Except the hairstylist, of course. LOL) Sorry, I'm just disgusting this way. Hahaha.
This was the first time I experienced such VIP treatment. Not to mention that Vellus Hair Studio works differently, too.
Instead of just plunging straight into cutting your hair or those standard one-liners, they will give you a briefing about hair scalp and a customized hair analysis of your scalp/hair condition! Using a micro device, you will be able to see a 1000% close-up of your own scalp and hair on a TV screen (which I thought was kinda' disgusting to the extent that I felt I had goosebumps).
It felt weird at the same time knowing that it is YOUR own scalp/hair that the screen is featuring. Seriously, my scalp condition was kinda' horrible as there were jelly-like substances clouding all over my scalp area and oil clogs. Those were so micro that they were not apparent to our naked eyes at all - unless using their micro device which I thought was amazing. 
Sorry that I did not take any picture at all during the process (I regretted much!) to show the before/after treatment as I did not expect myself to be blogging about it.
As my Groupon voucher was only for hair treatment, I topped up an additional $74 (It was originally $148 but we could have the 50% discount due to being a first-time customer) to try out their scalp treatment. (Note: I topped up on my own accord. I'm impressed that there was no hard-selling on their side at all)

If you were to ask me, I doubted the effectiveness of the treatment AT FIRST as I have never done scalp treatment before. I was actually convinced by the hairstylist's confidence in making my hair better after the treatment.... and GOSH, she really worked her magic in bringing my badly damaged hair back to life.
I do not have any before/after picture, but I did camwhore abit using my mobile phone during the process.

Mind you, I am not lying and neither am I affiliated with them in any way - so I earn nothing from advertising for them. I AM PURELY SHARING MY POSITIVE EXPERIENCE because it worked for me, and definitely worth a try if you are looking for a different-than-normal salon.
It may sound unbelievable, but you will be amazed at how different a treatment will make your hair look! 
You will even be given the chance to witness the effects of the treatment as the hairstylist will use the micro device to show you the results before and after. No kidding here, but majority of my oil clogs were gone. My scalp looks like a stranger's. LOL. At the same time, you can really FEEL a cleaner and softer scalp after the treatment physically. Just use your hands and reach out for your scalp. 
They do have a package for us to consider, but I did not sign up for it as I am starting to feel the pinch in my pockets. It was a real shame as I LOVE their services, and probably I'll return again when they have future promotions. I am not so much of a package-person... So.. Yeah.
But I am thankful to have found this salon through Groupon. I have always hated merchants that resort to hard-selling customers after they have purchased the deals to top up and stuff, but be rest assured that Vellus Hair Studio will not do that. That is one of the factors why I am impressed as well.
The staff were very friendly as well, and they were so kind to lend me their lighting for photo-taking purpose! :)
