This Arts Student loves COVO Japanese Hair Salon for its Hair and Scalp Treatment

Published on Mar 07, 2017

There are lots of hair and scalp treatments out there but COVO ranks among the most value-for-money!

The effects of the treatment last longer than others and price is very reasonable, especially given the fact that a Japanese hairstylist will attend to you the whole time!

This is one major reason why Agent L goes to COVO regularly.

Hello, I'm Agent L.

I've been working for some time but will be undertaking further studies in Art this year.

Just because my passion is in art doesn't mean I'm one of those who go for vibrant colours. Far from it, my personality is a little more understated. I believe that classy is beautiful and that it is more important for my hair to look healthy than it is to stand out.

That is the reason why I'm in love with Japanese salons. Other than their amazing service, I love how the stylists are more interested in taking care of my hair health than they are in damaging it with chemicals! Japanese stylists also seem to be better at haircuts; haircuts done at Japanaese hair salons tend to be more manageable as they can help to deal with my hair issues - finer hair at the crown and heavier hair at the ends.

I've personally been to COVO (both salons), Queen's Market, Bump and Style NA. However, COVO Japanese Hair Salon remains among my favourite due to its great haircut skills, colour, head spa and because the stylists here seem to know a little more English than the normal Japanese salon.

Wanting to show some appreciation for the stylists who attended to me, I wrote reviews for the salons in January 2017.

I was very surprised when Agent G contacted me in February 2017 to let me know that I won a sponsored Hair and Scalp Deep Cleansing at COVO Japanese Hair Salon. Apparently, Beauty Undercover is giving away free hair and beauty services for reviewers who wrote the most reviews each month!

Given that COVO is one of my favourite salons, I'm elated to say yes!

February 2017

I made an appointment on a weekday afternoon.

COVO Japanese Hair Salon at Katong

I always enjoy coming to the COVO Katong branch as the space and earthy decor makes it so easy for me to feel relaxed. The individual cubicle also gave me the privacy I relish at each visit.

The stylist who attended to me was Ura. His English is pretty good so it was easy to communicate with him.

Step 1: Hoyu Medilook Scalp Deep Cleansing

After some initial consultation, Ura went ahead with the scalp deep cleansing treatment.

He first applied the Hoyu Medilook Scalp Clean onto the scalp and gave me a good scalp massage. I love how he incorporated massage techniques into the scalp massage... very enjoyable

Apparently the Medilook scalp clean contains Cherry Leaf extract and Red Wine Yeast extract which helps to moisturize the scalp and alleviate scalp redness.

The massage felt quite good and lasted for about 5 to 8 minutes.

Step 2: Shampoo and Application of COVO Keratin Mix

After the scalp deep cleansing treatment, my hair was thoroughly washed to prepare for the next step: COVO Hair Treatment

He was too fast for photos to be taken but basically the next step he did was to apply the unique Keratin mixture created by COVO's founder. The Keratin is made up of various weights, replenishing the keratins that have been lost through daily damage.

To make sure that the treatment penetrates deep into the hair, heat is applied via a hair dryer.

Step 3: Steam Machine

The steam machine is used at the next step.

Basically it heats up the hair slightly and uses steam to improve absorption of the keratin into the hair.

Step 4: Sealing the Treatment

At this step, the keratins that have been penetrated will now be sealed via chitosan and other ingredients to make the hair hydrophobic and less frizzy.

After massaging the sealing treatment in, steam is once again applied.

Step 5: Application of Hair Tonic and Blowdrying

Back at the seat, Ura applied some hair tonic and massaged it into my scalp.

Finally, the hair and scalp deep cleansing ended with a blowdry.

Overall Thoughts

Their effective and value-for-money treatments are a major reason why I've been going back to COVO.

Hence I recommend everyone to give it a try.

Other than making me feel refreshed at the end of the treatment, it gave me a cleaner scalp and makes my hair ends a lot more manageable even on days when I did not apply conditioner or hair serum!

Goodbye Frizz!

Can't wait till my next appointment at COVO :)
