Best Japanese Stylists for Trendy Hair Colours in Singapore

Published on Jul 18, 2019

It is no secret that we at Beauty Undercover are huge fans of Japanese Hairstylists. They are detailed, patient, skilled, polite and never ever hardsell us because that is just not in their culture. Still, we hesitated going to Japanese stylists for bright hair colours because

1) They are more familiar with natural hair colours e.g. brown

2) We are worried that they may not understand what we are looking for.

However, this has begun to change as some Japanese stylists in Singapore upped their skill in bright, vibrant colours requiring bleach to keep up with what we are looking for. You no longer have to choose between service and skill with the Japanese stylists listed below as they are among the few that manage to combine both colour technique and first-rate Japanese service for stunning hair colour works!

1. Chiho from Bump Hair Design @ The Rochester Buona Vista

Chiho is possibly among the MOST LOVED Japanese stylists in Singapore... and for good reason. She's cool, fashionable, fun to be around, dresses well and most importantly, very skillful at both haircuts and colours.

Not satisfied with awesome haircutting skill and beautiful 3D highlights like the above, Chiho was one of the first to experiment with bleaching and various hair colour techniques such as dip dye

and even inner hair colours.

If you can think it, the creative Chiho would have done it before and will know just what to do to make that new hair colour of yours instagrammable!

That is possibly why she was the first Japanese stylist to be considered the Top Stylist within Japanese salons and why she is still so popular among customers today!

FYI, Chiho is pretty fluent in English after being in Singapore for so many years!

2. So-ne from Bump Hair Design

So-ne is so good-looking, he turns heads wherever he goes. That's not the reason why he's on this list though; So-ne is highly popular thanks to the very instagrammable hair colours he consistently creates for his customers.

It doesn't matter what colour you're looking for.

Whether you're looking for ash purple,

His sense of aesthetic is clearly unparalleled and is a reason why droves of ladies specifically request for Sone to create a special hair colour for them. He is however so popular, you probably have to book days in advance to make sure that he is available!

P.S. he is also fluent in English having been in Singapore for a number of years now!

3. Ken from Threes Japanese Hair Salon

We're not supposed to reveal this but if you're looking for a Japanese stylist with a A-list celebrity following, it's gotta be Ken from Threes Japanese Hair Salon. What most stylists do is to help style their hair... but for Ken, he goes one step further by helping famous artist design their hair colours for concerts and album covers! This means he doesn't just follow what's popular but observes latest trends and incorporate them in a way that fits the wearer.

That's why you'll seldom find him going to bright or too crazy. Instead, he will mix and blend a colour that makes you look so good, you'll get compliments from EVERYONE.

Brown? Purple? Red? Pink? It's not just one of these colours but a mix of everything perfectly blended in a glamorous and romantic style.

This is how Ken works his magic.

Do you love this slow burning flame as much as us?

As gorgeous as his vivid colours are, we are most in love with his brown highlights as he can somehow make an ordinary brown look extraordinary on you.

The only problem? He is still not that good with English yet so we would recommend that you bring a photo of the colour you're looking for or just trust him to make the best colour decision for you!

After all, prices here are AMONG THE LOWEST we've seen for hair colours so you're definitely going to get your money's worth.

4. Yuji from Art Noise Japanese Hair Salon

Yuji is one of the most talented Japanese stylists in Singapore, especially for his perms and colours (Just look at his page to find out what we mean). He was from Neolive, one of Japan's top salons for cuts and colours. So it's no surprise that he's among the best for bright colours locally.

His colours aren't just bright and pigmented, but he knows how to mix them to create a sophisticated yet fun and trendy colour. Magazines and TV channels feel the same, because they've featured Yuji a couple times. Cool, huh? Although he's basically at a celebrity stylist status, don't let his calm demeanour fool you. He's friendly and fun to be around, and we're sure you'll have a pleasant hair expereince with him!

One of his classic styles, a short single colour. Take a close look and you'll see that even though it's one colour, it's not one tone all over!

His pinks are also popular because he mixes a bunch of shades to give you a nice (and one-of-a-kind) gradient look.

And if you want something extra bright and bold, he's all up for rainbow hairdos too.

6. Yushi from Risel Japanese Hair Salon

A Japanese stylist that Agent G's sister and some of our writers love to go to is Yushi Harada from Risel Japanese Hair Salon.

Although many go to him for work-friendly ash browns and ash greys, Yushi is fantastic at mixing unique tones that you don't commonly see on other people's hair.

7. Keiko from Bump Hair Design @ Holland Village

Keiko is not your everyday Japanese stylist. Years of experience in Canada honed not just her command of English but also colouring skills as she gets exposed to different hair textures and preferences that got her challenging different colour designs.

We're especially in love with her blues and turquoise as she knows just how to mix in the highlights for a stunning result that lasts!

You don't have to go full on bright with her though; her work-friendly ash violet highlights and brown highlights look just as awesome.

Overall, an easy stylist to recommend because her skill is good and also because her bubbly and cheerful personality makes it super easy for us to connect with and talk to her! Keiko is someone we're sure will make the hours at the salon a fun and memorable time!

8. Manami from Walking on Sunshine

Looking for a more Hollywood / European style in your hair? You've got to talk to Manami. She's one of the few stylists with experience from all over the world, including Japan, New York and Germany where she picked up different skills and the style preferences in the individual countries.

You don't even have to go too crazy as she manages the sleek elegant style beautifully as well.

Her command of English is also excellent, so you don't have to worry about miscommunication!

Bonus: Anna Fujimoto from Shun Sakurai

Part of the glamorous / elegant hair club? With Anna, you don't have to colour your hair pink, purple or blue to get compliments from everyone.

This Japanese colourist uses amazing highlighting technique to help your hair achieve flattering tones in a way that makes you look like you're born with it!

Even a simple brown looks good... because it's not created that simply. The following brown colour was achieved by using different colour tones at the top and bottom for a natural look with highlights hidden within for dimension.

Another interesting thing about Anna is that she came up with a Personal Colour Consultation based on Seasonal Colour Theory to find the best colour to suit your skin tone.

Agent G recently got her hair coloured with Anna. She loved how Anna was spot-on with her personal colour and gave her a no-bleach hair colour that fit all her requirements: flattering, easy to manage with hair roots not obvious when it grew out!
