I am Agent SC. I'm a teacher by day and singer by night.
Singing however has taken the backseat in the recent year thanks to this cutie, aspiring Agent NW.
Yep, I just gave birth more than a month ago to my beloved baby boy.
Love this little button to bits but the entire process of pregnancy and childbirth took a toll on me. I couldn't sleep much at night and hoping to abide by some traditional customs, didn't manage to wash my hair as frequently as I would like.
Maybe because of that, my scalp has been feeling oily and itchy these days while my hair started thinning.
I know that's part of the normal process of recovery, according to Agent G, but I can't help worrying as I've never had scalp issues before. Seeing how worried I am, Agent G invited me to go for a scalp treatment at Follicle to see what they can do. According to Agent G, this is the only scalp treatment place she recommends because of the many people who were healed after coming here!
I'm certainly hopeful.
The salon itself was not easy to find. It is located at Level 8 of Ngee Ann City Tower B; I had to call the salon a few times and find the right elevator before reaching the place. Because of that, I was a tad bit late. Oops!
The receptionist however did not reprimand me and instead, welcomed me warmly into the salon.
The place looked posh and interior clean.
He gave me a form to fill in while waiting for the scalp specialist to get ready.
After filling out a form, I was then escorted to a room t to have my scalp analyzed.
The scalp specialist who attended to me is Calvy. She's the senior trichologist here.
She checked my scalp and suggested for me to get a Demodex Screening test as well.
As Demodex hair mites are microscopic, they are invisible to the naked eye.
The screening helps to identify people with demodicosis as the mites feast on nutrients and growth factor serums before scalp treatments can give any benefits.
The Demodex Screening Test requires taking a hair sample and transferring the sample onto a slide that is analysed by the trichologist.
It was fascinating to see them take samples of my hair and put it under the microscope... I wonder what they would find!
Soon, the results are out: i may be experiencing itchy scalp because of an impending Demodex infestation.
Yuck! That sounds icky.
According to Calvy, everyone of us have Demodex in our hair. However, certain conditions may cause the Demodex to increase beyond what is considered a healthy population, leading to scalp problems, premature hair loss and skin diseases.
Hence, they recommend for me to go for the Demotox Control Treatment first. The treatment doesn't contain any harsh chemicals and is proven safe even for pregnant ladies and ladies who are breastfeeding, so I'm relieved in that aspect.
Calvy escorted me to a seat and provided me with a blanket to make sure I was snug and comfortable.
She then applied a special mixture that helps to exfoliate the scalp. Like a facial treatment, my scalp needs to be clarified and cleansed to make sure that the nutrients that follow can be absorbed.
Calvy did it in small sections to apply on every section of my scalp.
She was very thorough and ensured that the back of my head was not neglected.
The mixture require some time to penetrate so I took the time to grab some shut-eye.
To speed up the process, she used a steamer that helps to open the pores and cleanse the scalp better
I was fast asleep in this warm and comfy environment, I barely knew what was going on.
Didn't realize i look like Super Mushroom from Mario at this point. Haha!
Once the mixture has set in, it was time for a wash.
Calvy used the cool and minty Demotox Shampoo for my hair, which made my scalp feel very refreshed afterwards.
Back at the seat, she blew my hair dry
And injected the scalp treatment liquid into this machine. It helps to miniaturize the particles and make it easier to absorb.
She then directed the spray to different parts of the scalp.
That was not all.
She applied yet another serum to moisturize my scalp afterwards and give it the vitamins necessary to boost my hair regrowth.
She used a brush to apply it to all parts of my scalp
before massaging it in with this machine
and later with her hands.
As the treatment came to an end, she blew my hair dry before doing a final scan of my scalp.
I already know that but it is reassuring to see from the scans that it looks much better and cleaner now.
This was my first time doing a scalp treatment and I'm glad its at Follicle Salon. Agent G was right, the therapists here are very knowledgeable and friendly. They shared about what they were doing every step of the way and showed me how to read my own scalp scan.
The treatment itself was also effective. My scalp felt clean not only immediately after the treatment but also a week after. I may however have to credit that to the regular use of their products as I switched from my usual harsh degreasing shampoos to their milder Demotox Shampoo and serum.
Indeed, my scalp itching alleviated significantly afterwards... which means their products really work!
Thank you Calvy and Follicle Salon for getting rid of my scalp issues. Yes, I know that postpartum hair loss will have to continue but I'm confident that I'll get back in shape faster than ever and the hair loss minimized as much as possible if I continue the treatments here.
Looking forward to come back for maintenance soon!
