10 Essential Things You Gotta Bring to East Coast Park or Sentosa for Maximum Fun

Published on Oct 08, 2020

As Singapore eases into Phase 3 of Reopening, we are all excited to be out and active again... and for many of us, this may mean heading to the beach! If you're planning to relax, cool off, or pretend you're on vacation, you'll need a few things to make your beach day perfect.

Keep reading to find out more about the face, hair, and body beach essentials that you absolutely should not miss.

Face

1. Sunscreen when you're chilling... and when you're in water

Troiareuke is a skincare brand from a Korean skincare clinic, made for customers who just went through facial treatments. Their products are non-comedogenic, suitable for sensitive skin, and will not irritate damaged skin.

If you're someone who hates thick and sticky sunscreens that leave a white cast, you won't have to worry about this. The Acsen UV Protector ($65) applies smooth, dries clear, and doesn't leave a sticky residue.

If you're planning on jumping into the ocean or playing beach volleyball, you'll need a sunscreen that can withstand the sweat, sun, and sea. Skinnies sunscreen just launched in Singapore and there's no reason not to check them out. Their sunscreens are reef-safe, waterless (so it's environmentally-friendly and easy to apply), and apply clear.

The Skinnies Sungel SPF30 ($34.99) is good if you're only planning to take a dip, and the Skinnies Conquer SPF50+ ($49.99) is perfect for a serious swim. It's formulated to be extremely spreadable so all you need is a pea-size amount. There's no excuse to skip sunscreen!

2. Sun Hat

You may have a sunscreen but nothing beats having an actual sun hat to shield you from all those harmful UV rays. A sun hat works as a physical barrier against the sun for both your skin and your eyes and guess what, it makes you look good on that IG photo as well.

You can't forget a face mask as COVID-19 is still at large.

Masks may not have been thought of as fashion accessories, but they do take up a fair amount of real estate on your face. It's not surprising that people are turning to more aesthetically pleasing ones. We’re going to be wearing face masks for a while - all the more reason to find one that you like!

Hair

1. Leave-in Treatment

Put a little bit of product in your hair before hitting the beach so it'll be protected from the salt, sun, and stressors from the environment.

There are a ton of options to choose from, including affordable ones like Tresemme, Briogeo, and Bed Head. There are also more expensive ones like Olaplex, John Frieda, and Ouai. Shop from stores like Sephora and Watsons, or visit your favourite hair salon and ask for recommendations!

After a long day out, your hair is bound to feel dry and tangled. Use a detangler spray to ensure you'll be able to comb your hair without breaking it or pulling it out.

Better yet: plan your beach day and make it a few days before your next hair treatment in the salon! There are so many amazing new hair treatments such as the Science Aqua Hair Treatment and the 2-in-1 Advante perm that are sure to fix that beach hair.

Body

1. Beach towel

A beach towel is a necessity when you're laying on the beach as you don't want sand getting everywhere (into your bag, book, food, or clothes). We hate when a towel gets sticky and ridden with sand, but Tesalate is an Australian brand that has created highly absorbent beach towels that are sand repellent.

Even if you're going to a beach club with chairs, you might want to bring your own towel as a safety precaution. Tesalate has a standard rectangular towel for one person (59USD) as well as a large square towel for 2+ pax (99USD).

2. Swimsuit

If you're heading to the beach, pack a good bathing suit! Go for your favourite piece that's comfortable, flattering, and not too strappy (to avoid crazy tan lines).

Looking for a new swimsuit? Try these brands:

Gymshark: Sporty but fashionable bikinis and one-pieces

Moana Bikini: Secure bikinis with the cutest prints

Haikini: Surf bikinis that stay in place all-day

3. Beach cover-up

For extra sun protection or just an easy breezy outfit to head home in, find a cute coverup. Some ladies like to throw on a cute crop top while others wrap a pareo around their waist or chest.

Our favourites? The Fraction Crop Top (30USD) by Gymshark that's made of a soft, stretchy cotton (comfortable and versatile!) and FunFit's Classic Pareo ($39.99) that can be worn in many ways (around the waist, across one shoulder, as a halter dress, or as a strapless tube dress).

4. Sandals

Flip flops may be the least of your concern but if you're already thinking about what to wear for your swimsuit, you might as well start planning for what sandals fit with your cute summer dress or bikini... and still feel comfortable.

Beach Sandals

5. Baby Powder

Hate getting stubborn sand in between your toes and other areas of your body? Bring a bottle of baby powder and you'll never need to worry about that in the future.

The powder works by absorbing excess moisture on the skin, thus making it easier to simply brush off the sand. It even works on wet hair to help release any grains of sand stuck on your scalp.

Bonus: Beach Toys + Kite

Beach Toys

Whether you have kids or not, there's no beach activity more beloved than building sandcastles. To indulge in this simple pleasure, all you need to do is to bring along a bucket, shovel, sand and some imagination!

Kites

Alternatively, there's always kite flying for those of you not so keen to get your hands and feet in the sand.
