Hello, I'm Agent RL.
I'm currently a student at NUS and have been working part time as a receptionist in COVO Japanese Hair Salon for some time. Why COVO though? I've always liked Japanese salons... prices here are higher but I love how the stylists attend to each customer from start to finish. The decor is also very chill and pretty so it feels good to work here as well. One additional perk of working here is that sometimes I get to be their hair model and this is one of those times.
COVO Japanese Hair Salon recently brought in a new treatment made by two legendary hairstylists from Japan. One of them is in fact a celebrity stylist working in New York right now. They came together to come up with a new hair treatment called NOV Treatment. The NOV Treatment neutralizes damaged alkaline hair to the original acidic PH and reforms hair’s microstructure to its original shape. This helps to remove unruly waviness, giving the hair additional gloss and a softer texture.
Due to months of neglect, my hair is long, frizzy and tangles easily, the perfect condition to try this treatment on. Just to let you see what my hair looked like before the treatment:
This is no exaggeration.
My hair really look this cui :'(
Sorry I'm quite shy so no direct photos of me pls!
Read on to find out what the treatment entails and the transformation to my hair afterwards!
As with most services, the hair treatment begins with a hair wash.
However, the shampoo used this time is actually not the usual one. This treatment uses a hdyrogen ion shampoo that has pH 3.2 to pH4.2. This shampoo helps to remove alkali within the hair and turns the hair into healthy acidic condition. It also helps to neutralize any toxins.
From what I understood from Kazz, it even includes Rice Fermented Extract and more than 20 kinds of amino acids that are good for the hair.
Although I'm just a hair model, the stylist Kazz still does his best to make the experience a good one for me, giving me a good head massage during the very thorough hair wash.
Back at the seat, Kazz applies a generous amount of NOV treatment onto the hair.
He then brushes it to make sure that they are all evenly applied. By combing thoroughly, the treatment penetrates to the very end of hair and uneven twist of hair is adjusted back. The treatment is also supposed to improve firmness & glossiness of the hair.
While waiting for the treatment to be absorbed, Kazz tied my hair up in a bun.
He then wrapped my hair in a transparent wrap and applied heat to speed up the process.
After about 15 minutes, Kazz came over and removed the wrap.
He then heated up my hair further with a comb-like device that is similar to that of a straightener.
This process is important as it heats up my hair to a certain temperature that activates the treatment within.
Next, the treatment is washed off
and the hair blown dry.
The final step in the treatment requires Kazz to apply heat once again with the straightener. Although this is not a keratin treatment, the NOV treatment contains Erucalactone that combines with heat. By giving heat, it stabilizes better and cuticle is closed tighter.
This is how the hair looks like at the end of the service!
Definitely much smoother.
For most people, the service will end here.
However, Agent G, who was with me, wanted to see the effect of the treatment after one wash.
Hence, we went for yet another hair wash.
Instead of straightening the hair this time, Kazz blew my hair dry to simulate how my hair will look like back at home.
Before I show you the final result, do you remember how my hair looked like before?
And now after:
Once again, this is the result after normal blowdry, not straightening.
Look at how shiny and smooth my hair looks afterwards?
I've tried and seen a lot of treatments done at COVO Japanese Hair Salon. This one is pretty unique because it feels like a keratin treatment but a milder form, so it doesn't straighten hair during the treatment. It's been a few weeks since the treatment and I can still feel the layer of smoothness of my hair that makes it less frizzy and easier to manage, something characteristic of typical keratin treatments. Because it is milder, however, it doesn't have negative effects on your next colour or perm, something I'm concerned about.
Overall, I really liked this new NOV treatment as it makes my hair look neater and doesn't tangle as much!
Highly recommended for those of you who want to smooth out the frizz but don't want your hair to look too straight :)
