Hi, I'm Agent CK, currently a psychology student. A lot of people say YOLO so I should bleach my hair and get all sorts of colour done.
However, I'm not like that. Maybe because I'm a little lazy, all I want is a hairstyle I can wash and blowdry in 5 minutes. I don't have time to put a treatment on my hair to make it smooth or go back to the salon regularly for touch-ups because I'm either studying or serving at church. Bright colours are also not my thing.
There is, however, one person I go to every few months to do my hair and that is Celine from Koinonia Salon. I've been going to her for my hair services since a long time ago. I love how I don't have to tell her what I want and she'll give me a perfect haircut that will last me for months!
This is how my hair looks like now after months of neglect and no haircut:
Still very neat and shiny right?
But yes, it's too long for me now - it feels like my hair is dragging my whole face down. I'm overdue for a haircut! I shared with Celine about a shorter hairstyle and to my surprise, she asked if I was keen to be her model for a freestyle perm instead. I sometimes share with Celine about what's going on in school and about the many guy friends who treat me as their bro. Celine promised to give me a perm that would still retain my sassy personality but add a little more femininity to help me shed my image as a tomboy.
Not sure whether a hairstyle change is enough for that but why not?
Celine just moved over to Koinonia Salon at Tiong Bahru so it's the first time I'm visiting it. I totally love this place!
It's the vibe it gives off - hipster yet homely. The staff and the entire place just feels like home.
This is how my hair looked like before the perm.
Very straight and long.
Knowing that I wanted a shorter hair length, Celine began the perm process with a haircut.
This removed lots of weight off my head and also any split ends and damaged hair.
Don't you think she's a pro at cutting hair?
After about 20 minutes, my hair now looks like this:
Much shorter and lighter now!
With my hair freshly cut, the next step is to apply perm lotion.
Although my hair is relatively healthy, Celine suggested for me to use the premium Paimore GRATS lotion. It is more common to use this for very damaged hair but Celine noticed that the curls created with Paimore GRATS on normal hair also look healthier, possibly because of its lower damage.
Celine proceeded to apply it evenly throughout my hair.
Starting from the back and ending with the front.
Unlike other perm lotions that can be tested with the naked eye, Paimore GRATS required her to take a small section of the hair and roll it to test if the bonds are sufficiently broken.
She took a small section of my hair and rolled it to test the curls on my hair.
Then, she covered my hair with a layer of plastic and heated up my hair a little to accelerate the processing time.
After about 10 minutes, she removed the roller to check if my hair was ready.
And indeed it was!
So it's time to go for a hair wash to wash off the perm lotion.
Back at the seat, Celine began rolling my hair up in sections.
It was a slow and tedious process as she had to plan each curl differently to make it look natural.
When it was complete, the rollers were connected to a machine to be heated.
Once the hair is sufficiently curled, it is time to fix the new shape that Celine had designed.
With Shua's help, she removed the rollers
The final result?
It looked crazy at first...
but they assured me that it would look normal once washed.
True enough, it calmed down when the neutralier was finally applied.
I went for one last hair wash
Celine ended the hair service with a simple blowdry.
Ready for the actual results?
Just a reminder of how my hair looked before:
And now after:
I'm in love with how voluminous it looks and how well this perm frames my face!
I'm also kind of glad that there weren't too much curls at the end because I wanted something natural and certainly not auntie.
Did I also mention that my hair felt very soft afterwards as well?
I'm glad that Celine delivered beautifully
So I took the chance to take photos within the salon and outside as well
Celine has done it again and transformed me from a dowdy Psych student to someone hopefully more fun and presentable with this freestyle perm. She kept me informed about what she's doing throughout the whole process and best of all, the perm turned out just the way I like it.
I'm also glad to say that the perm didn't just look good on that day; it's been almost 2 months now and my hair still looks beautiful. While I didn't manage to find a boyfriend yet, I've been receiving good feedback about how feminine I look these days. The hair is also easy to maintain; all I need to do is to blow it dry with my fingers and it will look just like this.
For anyone looking for a perm or even just a haircut makeover, I would unequivocally recommend Celine and the charming place: Koinonia Salon
