Have you used henna on your hair before? Yes, you read corretly, on your hair, not hands.
If you've gone the hair henna way, your stylist might have told you not to perm or Rebond right after. This is because henna tends to coat the hair, making it more difficult for any treatment lotion to penetrate it. As a result, most stylists find it hard to estimate the amount of time required for the perm lotion to take effect, causing problems with the perm afterwards.
At Focus Hairdressing, though, you will face no such problems. The stylists are used to perming and Rebonding hair with all sorts of history and have perfected the art of perming even hair treated with henna.

Hi, I am @shub_sg, IT professional, founder of Rainbow Dairies as well a mum of 2.
I love to try new things and one of the things I'm particularly adventurous about is hair treatments.
My hair is stubborn, dry, thick and damaged so it needs some TLC every now and then. I've gone for henna as well as Rebonding at some premium salons previously but none wowed me enough to make me want to return for more.
I was looking for a good salon that could help give my hair new life now that it had grown out. I wanted a salon that was honest and staffed with well-qualified hairstylists who didn't make tall claims, who were realistic and was affordable but used great quality products that wouldn't harm my scalp or hair. Yes, it was a lot to ask but this was my crowning glory we're talking about!
I was considering getting my hair Rebonded again but I didn't want it to be too flat. The alternative was a perm. But when I consulted a stylist close to my home, she dissuaded me.
You recently did a henna right? Cannot perm. Henna cannot perm. Maybe cannot rebond also.
I was really disappointed and walked away thinking that there was no hope.
Thankfully, I came across a list of salons that were the best for curly hair on Beauty Undercover. The salon that caught my eye was the humble Focus Hairdressing. Their prices were not high and it seems like they're really good at what they do. Also, it's conveniently located near my workplace so I thought: Why not arrange an appointment to see if they can do anything for me?
The one who did the consultation for me was Ken, the salon manager at Focus Hairdressing at Chinatown Point. I shared with him that I had done henna a few months ago and had hoped to achieve hair that was manageable but not too flat or poofy. Immediately, he suggested I try their new Blowout Perm. It includes both Rebonding at the roots and a gentle C curl at the end for a blowout look.
He then handed me over to another very experienced stylist, Jane.
Jane didn't talk much but I found her very honest and skillful. She didn't try to sell me any services. Instead, she gave me helpful suggestions to manage my hair.
I struggle the most with my flat roots and frizzy hair because it makes me look tired and messy.
Jane examined my hair to check the extent of the damage. As you can see, the henna colour was applied rather unevenly. Disappointing.
Still, she assured me that she had Rebonded and permed hair with similar textures as mine. Blowout Perm would be suitable for me as it would straighten the roots while giving the ends a slight C for an easy, manageabie style.
OK, Blowout Perm, here I come!
Jane began with a wash to cleanse my scalp and hair to ensure that the perm lotion could be properly absorbed.
The process was quick and refreshing thanks to the nice head massage.
Back at the seat, Jane applied some pre-treatment lotion to strengthen my hair before starting the Rebonding / perming process.
She pumped a generous amount on her hand and applied it to the hair ends.
Next, she gently combed my wet hair to get rid of any tangles.
Then, came the trim. I had not cut my hair for the longest time and it was now wayward and frizzy. Jane decided to cut off an inch and add some layers.
It was done quickly and with precision!
Then came the perming cream.
Depending on how damaged my hair was, Jane carefully applied the perming cream at different durations. To prevent the perming cream from coming into contact with my neck, she separated my hair with aluminium foil. How considerate!
Perming cream helps to break down hair bonds so hair can be permed or straightened.
After leaving the perming cream on for 20 mins, she rinsed it off. This was longer than the usual time needed because of the henna. We had to make sure that the cream had truly penetrated my henna-coated hair!
Time for the real magic!
Once my hair was dried, she ironed the hair from the roots.
This helped to straighten my natural curls from the top.
With the hair straightened, the next step was to curl the ends with rollers.
But first, an application of water so that the rollers could be put on more easily.
Then, she rolled my hair up in sections.
The rollers were then secured with rubber bands.
As the intended effect was a slight C, she curled only a little of my hair, leaving about 2 inches untouched.
Finally, my hair was connected to the machine that heated up the rollers for 20 minutes.
This process was quick because Blowout Perm doesn't make the hair too curly.
Before removing the rollers, Jane cooled my hair with a hairdryer to set the hair shape.
Unlike other perms where the hair comes out looking super curly, mine just fell in loose waves.
Released from the rollers, my hair coated with a neutraliser. I had to wait yet another 10 minutes for the lotion to set.
That done, I was brought to the washing bay.
At the sink, Jane washed the neutraliser off my hair and applied the post-treatment solution. This came at no extra charge. Whoppee!
All the products used were really high-quailty. They smelled pleasant, were effective and didn't aggravate my sensitive scalp!
After the last shampoo and rinse, Jane blew my hair dry.
She didn't use any round comb. In fact, she didn't use any combs, only her hands. That was how pliable my hair had become.
See what my hair actually looks like now?
Just a quick reminder of how my hair looked previously:
It's such a classy look that neatens my hair without needing too much time for styling and maintenance.
It doesn't just look good, it feels so soft as well.
Needless to say, I'm overjoyed!
Don't I look like I'm at some fancy photoshoot? And all they did was blow my hair dry!
This is no photoshop. I promise. As you can see in this boomerang, my hair really looks flawless.
I'm obsessed, for sure, with this amazing Blowout Perm!
