Soft Silky Ash Magenta is the Back to School Hair Your Friends Will Ooh and Aah About

Published on Aug 10, 2019

We've said it before but we'll say it again: the phase of bright attention-seeking neon colours is OUT.

Walk along Orchard, Keong Saik, Haji Lane or take a peek into tertiary institutions and you'll find it hard to spot brightly coloured hair even on the young and trendy. Yes, you may still see SOME influencers sporting colours that are somewhat bright but the general consensus seems to be that subdued colours is in.

The cool kids on the block are no longer talking unicorn and crazy but instead, we're hearing more and more inquiries for subtle hair colours along with soft shiny silky hair.

This week, we've got the trendy Agent @daniellefidel going for a sophisticated ash pink along with the latest Inkarami+ hair treatment

Read on for her experience at Full House Salon.

Hi, I'm Agent D, currently in my second year as a business student at Singapore Management University. Studying and gaining knowledge for my future career is important, but I also believe that this is the last phase of my life where I can discover my identity and explore the world while I'm still free from most responsibilities.

The world is a book and those who do not travel only read a page.

That's why I've been travelling when time and budget allows me to.

Travel aside, part of my self-exploration and discovery extends to hair and makeup. I've tried vibrant colours when I was younger, but as I mellow, I've been increasingly turning to natural hair colours, like brown.

Brown Long Straight Hair

Now, I have really long hair that is almost down to my waist. I've always loved long hair because it allows me to explore with colours more.

I cannot envision having black hair, because it's dull and I feel that it doesn't fit my personality. Hence, I have experimented with a variety of colours over the past few years, including bold ones like red and blue. In recent years, I have been gravitating towards more brownish shades because it's easier to maintain and not too attention-seeking.

However, after dyeing it the same colour every 2 months, it has come to a point where I'm starting to get bored of the colour brown, which is why I'm looking for a change, though not a super drastic one. I think unicorn colours have become a little too juvenile with age, and I'm not willing to subject my hair to too much damage.

I was sharing my hair dilemma with Agent G when she recommended Full House Salon @ Tampines to me. Although it is situated far in the east (Tampines), I've heard many good reviews about them before, and also that they were the Top Neighbourhood Salon in Singapore. In fact, I considered going to them previously but haven't yet had the chance to do so.

Since they were looking for a model to try a new treatment process with hair colour, I was glad to have the opportunity to give them a try!

First Impressions and Consultation

Located close in the HDB area opposite Tampines One, Full House Salon looked like a typical neighbourhood salon. The difference? It was already packed with customers at 11am in the morning. From the moment I entered, I received warm and friendly greetings from the stylists around. The stylists who were in charge of my hair that day are Samantha and Natalie.

Hair Consultation at Full House Salon

Samantha is a pretty Singaporean stylist who is very talented at what she does. She checked my hair condition and within a few questions, she got my style immediately. I also already did my research ahead of time, so all I did was to show her some photos I liked from Full House's Instagram page.

Instantly, she understood what style I liked. Samantha warned that the colour she did will not be exactly the same as what I showed her but she will customize it with a little more pink to complement my skin colour.

I wasn't going to argue with the expert and pink sounded splendid, but the bugging question remained: how many times would I need to bleach my hair?!

According to Samantha, just once! Seeing that I was slightly worried, Samantha shared that she will be applying Inkarami+ as part of the hair service so my hair will still remain as silky and smooth as it is now. I wasn't sure what Inkarami+ is at first but she explained that it is a premium hair treatment that is jam-packed with goodness ie. Fullerene to protect from chemical and UV damage as well as amino acids to strengthen the hair cortex. It is the first time Tokio Inkarami is incorporated seamlessly into a hair colour so I needn't worry about my hair health!

OK, I have been fully convinced, so here we go!

Wash with Inkarami Shampoo

Before we began the colouring though, Natalie helped me with the hair wash as part of the Inkarami+ procedure.

She used the Tokio Inkarami Shampoo to get rid of any dirt while ensuring that the hair is moisturized afterwards.

After towel-drying, Natalie applied the pre-treatment Tokio 0 onto my hair. The pre-treatment is important as it strengthens and repairs my hair to prepare it for the incoming onslaught!

Haircut

With the pre-treatment complete, Samantha took over to trim my hair.

I wanted to keep the length so she trimmed away just the damaged hair ends.

Once that was done, we were ready to began with the colouring

Bleaching

To remove the existing colour from my hair and to allow the ash colour to show later on, the first step was to bleach my hair. Olaplex was added to the mix to minimize damage. Samantha then sectioned my hair by backcombing it to create highlights without an obvious line.

Next, Samantha and Natalie began applying bleach to my hair.

They used foils to make sure that the bleach ended up only on the areas they wanted it to be.

In no time, my hair was basically mummified in aluminium foil!

With my hair ready, I went for a hair wash.

Look at how yellow my hair was!

Natalie told me not to worry as the application of colour will cover the yellow bits.

In fact, they tone the hair at this stage so that the resulting colour will be more ashy.

When it was done, Natalie washed off the colour.

The assistant then helped to apply Tokio 1 and 2 on the hair at this point to repair some of the damage sustained during the bleaching process.

Hair Colour

With my hair blown dry, it was time to colour my hair.

The stylists mixed a combination of purple and brown dye to create a unique ash magenta colour that walks a fine balance between it being visible yet subtle.

Styling

Finally, my hair could be blown dry to reveal the final product!

Throughout the entire process, I was fortunate to have had multiple stylists helping to tame my extremely long mane. They were all extremely patient despite the process taking several hours. I could tell that they really made an effort to ensure that my hair was properly cared for.

Their collaborative effort made each step of the process a lot faster!

Doesn't this just look amazing? I love it! It looks sophisticated but not attention-grabbing; it's mostly dark and natural with just a hint of colour, especially when I'm under sunlight.

Overall thoughts

I love the way my hair turned out!

Initially, I was unsure of what to expect as I have never done an ash tone before, though I have always wanted to try. The subtle ash pink colour came as a pleasant surprise; I instantly fell in love with it and so did my friends. I couldn't help but to share it on IG immediately!

I’ve gotten so many compliments on my new hair colour, I've stopped counting by now. Each time someone asks about the salon, I only have good things to say. I loved how Samantha managed to curate and mix the right colour specially for me. I also love how the colour was very long lasting, as shared by some of their customers in their reviews on Beauty Undercover. (It's been more than a month now and the colour still looks good!)

The Inkarami+ treatment they did on my hair also gave it a noticeable glow and silkiness... my hair looked smoother and felt more silky after the service than before!

Furthermore, the staff at Full House Salon are all passionate about what they do, which also contributed to the amazing result.

I used to think that whichever salon that I decide to get my hair done at was not important, as “all of them should be doing more or less the same thing”. However, this experience at Full House Salon was definitely eye-opening. I saw how the stylists there meticulously cared for every strand of my hair and patiently carried out all the steps necessary to minimise damage. I still get startled responses from friends when I tell them that I had to bleach my hair to achieve this colour, because the usual hair damage that comes with bleaching is not evident at all.

In the near future, I hope to pay Full House Salon another visit on my own accord to touch up my hair colour. I am looking to continue having hairstyles that can incorporate exciting colours into an on-the-whole natural look, like this one!

I visited Full House’s Instagram and saw an array of ash toned and lavender coloured hair. I was instantly drawn to it. Thanks to this experience, I now know where to go to get the hair colour of my dreams.

Thank you Samantha and Agent G for the recommendation!
