Hello, I'm Agent JZ, a beautician and mother of one.
I'm very adventurous with my hair and love to try many different styles.
One of the newest styles I've been dreaming of getting is the hippie perm that has been trending all over Korea, Japan, Taiwan and China.
It looks really good although my stylist warned that maintenance is not easy due to Singapore's humid weather.
Well, I'm those kind of person who need to try it out to see how it goes, so I did.
This is how it looked like on ME.
It doesn't look that bad if I style it properly and put lots of styling cream.
On most days though I look like a poodle with the crazy frizzy hair, when I simply don't have time to style it properly.
After much thought, I went back to Andy, my trusty hairstylist at No. 8 Hair Studio for what I can do. I don't want to rebond my hair as it will cause my hair to be very damaged after perming so recently. Instead of rebonding, Andy recommended me to try their new Keratin Treatment instead. Keratin Treatment differs from rebonding because the straightening effect is not permanent. Andy explains that a Keratin Treatment's straightening effect is not permanent. It works by covering the hair with a layer of keratin and ironing it to seal the keratin into the hair. This has a straightening effect which reduces over time as the keratin fades away. Another interesting thing about this particular keratin treatment is that I can STILL go for a perm or rebonding afterwards, which is usually a no-no for other keratin treatments.
I haven't tried keratin treatment before but I'm definitely game to try!
Hence, I made an appointment with Andy on a weekday afternoon on my off day.
I enjoy coming to No. 8 Hair Studio after Andy moved over here because the entire place is just so tranquil... my only gripe is that I live very far away from there. What to do though? Andy is so good especially with haircuts, I would willingly travel hours just to come here to get my hair done by him.
Today though, I need him to rescue my frizzy hair.
Andy patiently explained about the Keratin Treatment he was about to do. This keratin treatment is unlike the typical keratin treatment because hair is rinsed after application of keratin before sealing it in via ironing. This reduces amount of smoke that will be in the air and makes sure that the process is free of formaldehyde, making it safer as well.
Everything sounds good so let's begin!
Andy started the process by trimming off the damaged hair ends.
He didn't cut much but ensured that the hair will have a nice shape at the end.
When he was done, he escorted me to the wash area for a hair wash.
He used a specific clarifying shampoo to strip the hair of silicons, dirt and hair products that may interfere with the application and binding of keratin.
During the process, Andy also gave a gentle head massage, which I really liked.
Back at the seat, Andy combed through my hair and blew it dry.
When my hair was dry, Andy used a brush to apply the keratin.
Then a comb to comb it through
and finally his fingers to ensure even application.
The process looks simple but requires quite a bit of technique to ensure that the keratin is applied evenly.
Once application is complete, he covered my hair with cling wrap to use my body heat to accelerate the process of absorption.
Next, he brought me to the basin for a hair wash.
This removes the excess keratin on the hair and minimizes any smoke that may result from the process of ironing.
Back at the seat, Andy blew my hair dry and began sealing in the keratin by ironing.
This step requires the stylist to be precise and very systematic to make sure that keratin is applied on the hair properly and evenly.
Did you also notice that there is ZERO smoke during the process... so there's no formaldehyde or harmful substances being produced in the air!
When we was done with ironing my hair, Andy gave it a final trim.
He was not yet done though.
He gave me a final hair wash and applied a treatment at the sink.
And blew my hair dry so that I can have a better idea of how my hair will look like after the hair wash.
Before the final reveal, here's how my hair looked like previously:
And now After
Suddenly, the straight hair made me feel like I got younger by a few years.
As much as I miss the curls a little, there's really no hairstyle as manageable as this!
Look how soft my hair is right now?
This is my first time trying Keratin Treatment and I must say, I'm loving it!
My hair is now frizz-free and a lot straighter so maintenance is simply just blowing my hair dry every morning... saving me lots of time! Really grateful that Andy managed to help me reverse my hair regret with a miraculous hair service that doesn't damage my hair further.
Thank you once again for being my hair saviour!
As Joan Crawford would say
The most important thing a woman can have, next to talent of course, is her hairdresser.~ Joan Crawford
I'm glad I found my forever stylist, Andy from No. 8 Hair Studio!
