Hi all, I am Agent SY. I'm currently an undergraduate majoring in Economics and Management.
I usually follow my mom to her regular hair salon to colour my hair brown and rebond my hair but now that I'm in the last few years of school before heading to work, I've been thinking about trying something different.
In May, I went for purple highlights. It wasn't too obvious but it required getting my hair bleached.
It went back to brown soon enough though.
The bleaching was however rather uneven so it leads to these unsightly chunks at the back.
With the festive season arriving, I thought about doing yet another purple colour to cap off 2018. Very lucky for me, my senior told me about this top hair salon looking for hair models and it is none other than Picasso Hair Studio.
I went to their North Bridge Rd outlet, which is very close to Haji Lane. I had a really nice impression of Picasso Hair Studio when I first walked in. The place reminded me of an art studio with all the easels.
I was warmly welcomed by Carmen, my stylist of the day.
The consultation was really interesting for me. Unlike at my previous salons, Carmen took the time to give me a thorough analysis of my hair texture, type, face shape and skin tone to help determine which hairstyle and colour suits me best.
I always thought I have an oval shaped face, but Carmen changed my entire perception and said that I have an oval/square shaped face instead. Imagine that!
With that in mind, she opined that a one length haircut isn't the most flattering for me. Carmen suggested instead a layered cut to frame the jawline more.
With my consent, there she went!
Loving the cut!
As for the colour, I shared my preference for violet and she commented that it works well for my skin tone. However, she would have to bleach my hair to see exactly what tone my hair can withstand.
As the colour we had in mind was pretty bright, we had to bleach my hair a few times. This required us to break the colour session into two, once for bleach and the other for colour to minimize damage.
The bleach Carmen used was Guy Tang's #Mydentity Big9 that can remove colour really quickly. Olaplex was included to minimize any damage.
The colour correction was pretty challenging as there are many different levels of colour.
But certainly not impossible for Carmen, the Creative Director at Picasso.
Carmen began bleaching the previously coloured areas first to match the colour tones with the ends.
Then she began bleaching the root regrowth to match the rest of the hair.
She did have help from another stylist though to speed up the process!
Then, I waited for awhile while having some snacks they provided.
They gave me some snacks in the meantime while waiting for the hair to be processed.
She didn't leave me alone but checked the hair every step of the way.
This is how it looked like before the wash and after.
Of course, we are not done yet but I had to leave by now.
Will be back another day for the colour!
Came back a few days later on another weekday afternoon.
My hair was meticulously twirled into small sections to prep it for the colour.
Here are the colours Carmen will add to my hair.
It doesn't actually look like this, she assures me.
To separate out the colours, she used foils.
This is how it looks like while waiting for processing.
Time for the final hair wash of the day!
The colour looks more and more entrancing as it dries.
Here's a sneak peek:
A quick reminder of how my hair looked before:
And now after!
Stoked about my new hair colour... there are so many different shades of lilac, lavender and hints of rose gold that look simply gorgeous together!
Love love love it!
I received SO MANY compliments on this new balayage hair colour, you wouldn't believe it!
You have no idea how much I wanted this new colour to stay and not fade away so fast. I did EVERYTHING I could, including not shampooing for days :P
All the steps I took + using purple colour shampoo helped the original violet last way longer than I initially expected.
Hence, very honoured and happy to be one of the first few people to try Guy Tang's #mydentity hair colour in Singapore. The shades of purple brings out the boldness in me and works well especially for my tanned skin. Perfect for violet lovers like me!
Thank you Carmen and Picasso Hair Studio for your warm hospitality and the awesome hair colour. The staff took really good care of me, providing me snacks and drinks and making sure I feel comfortable, so I look forward to every visit.
Most importantly, the hair turned out just BE-U-Ti-FUL.
Take me back to Picasso any day for a hair makeover!
