Hello, I'm Agent Red Sparrow, 29, a sales associate with an International Luxury Brand and before that, a male steward with our national airline. Combine my streak of vanity with the client-facing jobs I hold and you've got someone who is very particular about hair (me).
Fortunately for me, I never had to worry about my hair. I got to know Bro 12 years ago. My Mom goes to Act Point Salon for her haircut ever since I was small. I followed, just when i was about to enlist into National Service. It was compulsory for all NSMen to shave their heads but I just didn't want to get my head shaved in army. Bro was the one who gave me my one and only botak shave a few days before enlistment.
Somehow we hit it off and I just keep going back to him since then. Bro has seen me through many different hairstyles and hair colours. Knowing that I’m always game to try new looks, he has previously given me Pink Hair for a Japanese Cosplay, Ash blue and pink for my masquerade as Harley Quinn. He has also maintained my hair during my SQ days when ALOT of hairspray was needed to pull off my combover.
So yes, I absolutely agree with the quote on the right.
Friends come and go, but a good hairstylist is forever.
I've tried many hair services with Bro but the one service that makes me come back again and again is: PERM.
The first time Bro mentioned perm, the image of maggi mee floated in my head.
It definitely wasn't the most appealing image I wanted to have.
But hey, this is BRO and not just anyone suggesting. He doesn't often recommend something so when he does, I listen.
Who knew that I would be so addicted to perming that I come back every 3-4 months for a re-perm! Volume aside, the perm makes styling so EFFORTLESS.
Unfortunately, I had to take a break from perming when I bleached my hair more than 6 months ago. I wanted to get a specific colour for a certain event. Hence I had to wait about half a year before I can resume perming.
Note to self - no bleach if I wanna keep perming.
That's why my hair looks like this now:
It was getting dull and certainly lacked the volume I so miss!
So that's the Bro I've been talking about. He is not just my Bro, his name is really Bro.
I always enjoy chatting with him because he is just so chill and funny. The first thing we do is usually... not consultation.
We'll catch up on what happened in the past few months before he will start asking me what I want to do for my hair.
To be honest, I usually leave everything to him unless I have a specific request.
This time, I just want my usual perm that is easy to style and manage. Maybe slightly more curly so that the perm will last longer!
Once we get that settled, he sent me off for a hair wash.
Back at the seat, Bro began applying the perming lotion. He carefully combed it through my hair.
It had to be spread evenly so that the curls would look uniform.
Once enough time has passed, he begins to roll my hair into these small rollers.
These rollers will create the curls that add texture and volume to the hair.
He didn't just roll the hair into 1 roller. Many small rollers were used.
The perm lotion was special such that I didn't need to go for a hair wash before the rolling process. Apparently, they imported this lotion from Korea and is called the Korean Wave Perm lotion.
To fix the shape, Bro applied neutralizer.
While waiting for the neutralizer to be processed, I decided to walk around their newly revamped outlet and even manage to pour myself some tea.
In about 20 minutes, the hair was almost done.
I know I know, I look like some aunty who has some maggi mee on her head.
This is just temporary.
I went for the final wash of the afternoon.
Bro dried my hair
and gave me a quick trim.
And we are done!
A quick recap of my hair before this:
And now after:
Yes, my sides are a lot more voluminous.
I absolutely love how the wave looks on my hair.
Very Korean style!
LOVE the waves, especially after Bro taught me how to style it properly.
Korean-style with my seriously cool face.
There's a reason why I keep coming back to Bro. Of course his friendliness plays a part but that's not all.
My hair always looks good under his care, whether its a simple haircut or a perm like this.
The entire process was also fuss-free and most importantly, didn't cost an arm and a leg. I usually get my perms done here every few months at prices below $150. It's not a very small amount but definitely more than worth it given the extra volume it gives and convenience styling my hair every morning. I feel like I can have more fun with my hair with it permed and it’s super easy to style my hair or give it volume when I do a combover!
It is this combination of skill, value and personality I get from Bro and Act Point that keeps me coming back. Coincidentally, I recently found many of my friends and acquaintances also coming to Act Point for their value-for-money hair services.
Looks like word is spreading!
Anyhow, this is a place I would readily recommend anytime for men's haircut and perm.
Just remember to book Bro ahead of time coz his schedule is one of the first to be booked up :P
