Hi, I’m Agent A, studying IT in the school of UOL. My hair was bleached multiple times as I have been a hair model for other salons before. This means dry and damaged hair that looks like this:
The arrival of 2019 got me thinking about getting a new coat of colour to refresh this brassy brown.
No more bleaching for me coz my hair is so damaged, it is now broken in many places.
What colour can I do though? I'm thinking of going dark because it will make my hair look less damaged but I don't really want to go black.
I talked to Agent G who recommended me to try Selyn at Pro Trim. Selyn is apparently the colour expert among stylists in Pro Trim @ Ngee Ann City and is known to be pretty good with her natural blending. As she was looking for a hair model, Agent G asked if I wanted to give her a try.
Yep, I'm all for it!
Pro Trim is located at Level 5 of Ngee Ann City, where there aren't as many people walking past. The salon itself doesn't look different from usual hair salons.
When I first entered, I was greeted by Selyn who was already patiently waiting for my arrival.
Selyn asked about my hair history, when I bleached my hair as well as what colour I would like to achieve.
Being an IT undergrad, I always have my laptop with me. So I whipped it open and showed her some photos of what I hope to achieve.
Could my hair achieve this grey hair colour?
Selyn mentions that my hair may have been bleached a few times but it is still rather yellow. Without further bleaching, the grey may look a little dark and may even have a very slight tinge of green under sunlight.
As I'm really not keen to bleach any more, I was good with that.
Never tried ash grey or ash green before so I'm game!
As there is no bleaching, Selyn went straight to the hair colouring process.
To make the colour appear more natural, she picked out smaller sections to start the highlights.
If you are wondering why my hair is so messy near the roots, well, it isn't because my hair was very messy.
Selyn intentionally combed up some hair so that the eventual highlights won't have that one line across for a more natural blending.
She used different techniques at different part of the hair to achieve a certain look she had in her mind.
Separating the different sections with foils to avoid colouring the hair in other areas.
This is how my hair looked like after about half an hour!
While the colour was processing, Selyn began preparing the colour for the next stop: roots.
With the colour ready, Selyn coloured the roots and the rest of the hair.
After she was done, I had to wait for another 15 minutes or so while the colour penetrates.
Finally it was time for the hair wash.
To keep my hair looking ashy, she used a purple shampoo to wash my hair.
After that, she gave my hair a good thorough wash that felt damn shiok!
Back at the seat, Selyn applied some protective oils before blowdrying.
Can you already see the grey streaks of highlights on my hair?
Knowing that I'm meeting my friends later, she even helped to curl my hair.
Are you keen to see how my hair looks like now?
Just a quick reminder of how my hair looks before:
And now, After!
What do you think?
I know my hair condition isn't that amazing but given that no additional bleaching was done, I think the colour looks pretty awesome!
I love it that the colour is dark in low light but has just enough greys to show its translucence in bright light.
Hence, I won't attract like too much attention in class... and its still visible under sunlight.
Overall, super pleased with the colour! Didn't realize I could achieve this colour without additional bleach and damage. Now I just hope the colour stays!
I had a good time at Pro Trim. It is not the most atas salon but Selyn did her best to make me feel comfortable, asking if I needed anything topped up e.g. drinks and food throughout the process. She also tried her best to connect with me and I appreciate that.
Most importantly though, I like her hair colour!
It's not an easy colour to achieve given that my hair isn't bleached very cleanly by other stylists before but she managed to do it well. I also have to thank her because it's been my fourth wash and the colour still look good... thanks to her advice to get purple shampoo (which I did)
Thanks Selyn and Pro Trim once again; her skills are really goo! All you have to do is to show her a photo and she will be able to customize to look to your current hair needs.
Looking forward to coming back again soon!
