With more and more clinics offering laser treatments at ever lower prices, laser treatments are becoming more and more common in Singapore. After all, there aren't many treatments that can get rid of acne scars, pigmentation and smoothen your complexion as fast as a laser.
For ladies going for laser treatments for the first time, however, you may find the process pretty scary as the skin seems to look worse before it gets better. Many report seeing their skin turn red, swollen and sensitive while some even find their skin peeling and crusting after the laser treatment!
Having helped many customers recover from their post-laser side effects, Chrissy from Face Plus by Yamano wishes to share some advice on how you can accelerate healing after laser treatments in Singapore.
Laser treatments uses micro beams to "injure" the skin and remove imperfections. Unsurprisingly, it is very sensitive after suffering so much damage. It is hence absolutely crucial to protect it from further sensitivity by shielding it from the sun and avoid usage of irritating substances. ~ Chrissy
Your skin is like a giant wound after going through laser treatment. New healthy tissue is sensitive to the sun and hence is easily damaged by sun exposure or aggressive chemical substances. You may therefore find your skin darkening or even becoming photo-damaged without the right post-laser care.
At Face Plus by Yamano, Chrissy therefore reminds customers to put on sunscreen of at least SPF 30 before heading out and actually getting out of the sun whereever possible for 7-14 days before and after the laser treatments. She also recommends to stop using any exfoliating cleansers or those with active ingredients e.g. Alpha Hydroxy Acids or Beta Hydroxy Acids to avoid exacerbating the sensitivity.
Do not panic if you find your skin starting to peel. If you find that the serums at home are unable to moisturize your skin sufficiently, go for a professionally done hydrating facial to hydrate your skin deeply and accelerate its healing\ ~ Chrissy
After such an aggressive procedure, it is absolutely normal to find your skin feeling dry afterwards. It is therefore a good time to spam all the hydrating moisturizers you have. If you still find that your serums are not sufficient, you can consider going for a hydrating facial at a salon.
If you're wondering what's the difference between homecare and facials at the salon, Chrissy shares that the facial uses a combination of different toning lotions and serums that tends to be more hydrating than most products available off the shelf. They also use machines that help the ingredients penetrate deeper into the skin.
The facial massages that follow don't only feel good; it helps the detox process to facilitate absorption of moisture as well. Customers also report that facial swelling seems to be reduced after the lymphatic massages here.
With so many steps geared towards moisturization and regeneration, it is no wonder why Face Plus by Yamano is a salon of choice for post-laser facials.
It is not ideal to irritate the skin further with extractions after laser treatments. But some ladies still find themselves plagued with clogged pores and dead skin. To get rid of those, we use a combination of supersonic cleaning as well as white clay to clarify the skin. ~ Chrissy
Extractions are a no-no as they irritate the skin and may cause scabs that take weeks to heal after your lasers. Gentle no-extraction facials are hence recommended if you find your pores still clogged after your lasers. Just in case you wonder what they do at such facials, Face Plus by Yamano, uses a combination of supersonic cleaning and proprietary white clay cleanser to cleanse and clarify the face for a clearer complexion.
Laser can be scary but once you perform the right post-laser care, you will yourself reaping the benefits of laser treatments as it helps you attain your ideal skin more quickly.
Curious about what it entails? We follow Agent A to the Kohaku Regeneration Essential Facial after her recent laser treatment.
If you're wondering, Face Plus by Yamano itself doesn't perform laser treatments but has seen a huge uptick in customers looking for post-laser facial care. Thanks to its incredible moisturization power that hydrates and cleanses gently without extractions, their inhouse Kohaku Regeneration Essential Facial has proven to be very effective in helping customers accelerate healing after facials.
Hello, I'm Agent A and am currently working at MOH.
TBH, I've been facing acne all my life. Even now, I get breakouts but it is now thankfully controlled due to skin medication. I don't know if you can see, I still have some scars from my previous acne breakouts.
It is already less obvious because I've been going for laser treatments. While it certainly helped, the laser treatments appeared to have created another problem for me: sensitive skin.
When I stay in airconditioned rooms for some time or when I apply certain moisturizers, I find my face feeling very dry, itchy and even scaly. I was complaining to a good friend of mine, Agent CW when she recommended me to check out Face Plus By Yamano. Agent CW had previously tried Face Plus by Yamano and loved how the entire process was gentle yet very effective in hydrating the skin.
With such raves from Agent CW, I knew I had to give it a go and hence made an appointment at Yamano.
I was my first time at Face Plus by Yamano. The place is cozy and easily accessible at Level 4 of Orchard Central. The therapist who attended to me was Chrissy - a Singaporean facial therapist. She may be Singaporean but her politeness and courtesy really felt like a Japanese - from the first moment I enter, she greeted me with a bow and invited me to sit at the counter.
Based on what she could see, I have combination skin: oily in some areas but dry and dehydrated in others. Chrissy asked about my lifestyle as well as facial routine so that she can better adjust the facial to my needs. It was then I told her about the laser treatment I did and the alcutin (hormone medicine) to control acne.
Understanding that my primary concern is skin sensitivity, Chrissy reassured me that the Kohaku Regeneration Essential Facial will be able to help. The 70-min facial has not only won multiple awards but have been highly requested by customers who went through the same thing that I did: dry and sensitive skin after laser treatments. This is because it employs lots of hydrating ingredients without using extractions, allowing them to clarify my skin gently.
I'm all hyped up, so let's go!
As with all facials, the first thing Chrissy did was to cleanse my face.
In this process, she used Yamano's proprietary Doronko white clay for double cleansing. White Clay gently draws dirt and build-up while absorbing excess oil that may clog pores. For other clients, Chrissy usually uses the stronger black Bentonite clay that allows it to suck out all the gunk and excess sebum. However, white clay is a gentler option that is more suitable for those who has recently gone for laser treatments.
I love how she rhythmically applied the white clay with movements that feel so gentle, lulling me to sleep.
After washing the clay from my face away, Chrissy turned on the facial steam. It heats up the face with steam to loosen dirt and impurities that may be stuck deeper in the skin.
With the impurities loosened, Chrissy uses a supersonic cleansing machine to gently push away the dead skin. She first applied the sonic water before running the the ultrasonic machine through. You may not know but turning the ultrasonic machine up to 30,000 hz actually helps to get rid of impurities and blackheads from the pores, all without harming the skin.
Well, I can certainly tell you that the process is painless and very comfortable.
With my skin now cleansed, Chrissy prepares to apply 4 hydration products to my skin.
The first, the highly raved Bidou Skin Lotion (red). The Bidou Skin Lotion contains amber and exclusive ingredients that boosts the skin's ability to generate hyaluronic acid and stimulate new cell growth.
Next, she applied the Kohaku Zero Perfect Lotion and a placenta serum that delivers intense moisture and anti ageing, whitening, moisturizing and cell activation to the skin before the final ingredient: Epidermal Growth Factor (EGF) that has proven to stimulate cell growth and repair.
After applying the cocktail of serums and lotions, Chrissy then uses this grey machine and turned it round and round.
Apparently, this is called electroporation. It helps open the pores to deliver the cocktail of EGF, placenta and amber applied earlier right down to the deeper layers of epidermis. To give you an idea of how good it is, scientific studies show that electroporation permeates the skin 20-60 times more than when we use the ionic machine.
Can you see how much brighter and plumper my skin looked afterwards?
With the serums still on the skin, Chrissy performed a lymphatic massage that helps to improve effectiveness of absorption while at the same time lifts up the face.
As you can tell, it feels really good! She doesn't just massage the face but also made sure to remove the knots from my shoulders, eliminating the tension I got from WFH.
That's not all. She ended the massage with a hot stone that once again helps to detox my skin. Can you see how much more defined my jawline looks like now?
Finally, Chrissy applied a clay mask to provide the much needed moisture to my face.
To retain the moisture and increase penetration gently, my face was then covered with a cling wrap for 10 minutes.
Chrissy didn't leave me alone during the process but gave me yet another awesome head massage.
Finally, it was time to remove the clay mask.
She didn't just leave me at that but applied another layer of the Kohaku Perfect Nano Lotion. This is known to be one of the few in the industry that uses nanomolecules in its production and delivering moisture right to the deepest layer of the skin.
And we are done!
I'm not about to exaggerate and say that my face looks completely different after one session but I can definitely tell you that it feels A LOT more moisturized. It is plumper and brighter - even though the camera may not be able to capture that in person.
Chrissy ended the session by advising me on the type of homecare to use after the treatment (lightweight, moisturizing and repairing) while avoiding homecare products that contain alcohol and other harsh exfoliating ingredients.
Overall, I had a great time at Yamano! The salon reminds of Japan with its ultra polite staff, spotless cleanliness, amazing facial massage and zero hardselling.
What's most important however is that the facial worked.
In the 2 weeks afterwards, my face actually felt NORMAL. No more scaly bits peeling off the face or itch in the aircon room - just moisturized face that felt plump and nice, the way it felt before I went for laser!
I already have a facial package elsewhere but I'm really tempted to come back now with the amazing service and results that actually work and have already made my next appointment with Chrissy.
Will I see you there?
