Hi! I'm Agent MS, an undergraduate currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Psychology.
I also do some freelance acting on the side.
I have had the opportunity to take on a diversity of roles which include doctors, nurses and even roles in historical dramas.
As I could be asked to take on acting roles of any background, I tend to not be adventurous with crazy colours and stick only to safe options like Ash Brown.
Although I do not really experiment with colours, I must admit that vibrant colours are pretty tempting to me. In fact, I recently bleached my hair a few times during a recent hair show. Add the 2 times my hair was bleached 2 years ago and 1 time of DIY after this and I've bleached my hair a total of 4 times. This means dry and damaged hair! As much as I want to make it look smooth again, I avoided use of too much hair mask or conditioner as they tend to make my hair look very flat at the crown.
Between smooth looking hair and volume, I'll choose volume anytime!
So this is how my hair looks like on any given day... if I don't tong or style it.
As I mentioned, pretty dry and damaged with no volume.
My hair shape also isn't really there because some parts are too damaged :(
After sharing my hair woes with Agent G, she asked if I would be interested to be a hair model for The Beauty Emporium by The Urban Aesthetics @ Raffles City, the newest premium Korean hair salon in Raffles City. The salon has brought in a new perm lotion that can perm multiple- bleached hair called Paimore GRATS. It is also anchored by Rina, a top Korean stylist who was one of the first few to invent volume rebonding!
I was a little hesitant due to my first bad experience with perm when I was 18; I ended up looking 5 years older than what I really was!
Agent G reassured me that it wouldn't be the case because
New Year, New Hair right?
With the arrival of 2018, why not do something totally new and revolutionary?
Agent G certainly wasn't joking when she said the place is new. Just opened less than a month ago, The Beauty Emporium by The Urban Aesthetics looked spanking new with its bright and clean furnishings.
I was warmly welcomed by the reception staff when I first entered.
They escorted me to a chair and Rina came by just seconds later.
Rina is the stylist with the gorgeous pastel pink hair!
She's very pretty and certainly very skilled at what she does.
She took a look at my hair and assured me that I would get voluminous hair I always dreamed of (without needing to tong or style my hair) the moment I awake. She will use the mildest perm lotion (paimore grats) for the damaged ends and normal perm lotion for the healthier root area to make sure that the perm will turn out perfect.
Rina also recommended me to colour my hair without bleaching to make my hair look healthier. As I am relatively fair, she believes that red will suit me well. Seeing my slight hesitation, Rina mentioned that she will do a slight experiment so that I can decide for myself later.
OK, sounds great!
Rina sectioned my hair before embarking on the cut.
From her fluid movements during the haircut to her reassuring confidence, I could tell that Rina is no ordinary hairstylist.
She knows exactly what to do at every step and this makes me relax even more as I leave my tresses in her hands.
Once the cut was done, I was brought to the basin for the hair wash.
While the junior stylist, gave me a wash, Rina did some sort of an experiment. As my hair was previously bleached unevenly, it is hard to tell what colour it will look like if I colour my hair again. Hence, she took some of the hair that she just cut and coloured it pink, lavender and red. This way, I can have an accurate idea of how it will actually look!
She used Paimore colours because it contains a lot of treatment oils within... very suitable for my damaged hair.
Back at the seat, Rina applied the pre-treatment onto my hair. This helps to protect my hair from damage in the following procedures.
While the treatment was being applied, Rina showed me my hair that has been coloured.
The Lavender somehow doesn't show up well on my hair.
While the pink looked nice, Rina says that it is very likely to fade off in days.
Red however will last a lot longer. It also suits me better as it brings a more vibrant colour to my face.
I decided to trust her and go ahead with red.
The next thing Rina did was to apply the perm lotion onto my hair.
As my hair was unevenly damaged / bleached, my hair has to be permed in two sections.
She applied a normal perm lotion near the roots of my hair.
Paimore GRATS is then applied to the rest of the very damaged hair. The processing time is very short for bleached areas because my hair was already damaged.
What the perm lotion does is to break down bonds further so that a new shape can be formed and fixed later on.
Slight heat was then further applied to it to accelerate the process.
After about 15 minutes, my hair was washed once again.
Now that the bonds are broken, Rina decided to do a second cut because this will give her the most accurate idea of how long each section of my hair is.
She did a slight trim to ensure that the hair will look perfect afterwards.
She cut it when my hair was wet.
Then dried my hair.
And cut it again when my hair is dry.
Rina then used the rollers to curl the ends of my hair.
The rollers used were relatively small because my hair has been bleached quite a few times and is therefore unable to hold the big curls.
To prevent me from looking like an auntie, she only curled the bottom half of the hair so it won't be too curled!
I note that the materials used for the roller and the machine all looked very expensive. From what Rina explained, this is the top of the line Paimore machine in the market as Paimore is the company that created digital perm in Japan years ago. They recently created this machine which can perm hair at low temperatures by emitting heat in a cyclical manner consistently. That's why the perms created with this machine is especially bouncy!
After about 15 minutes, this is how my hair looked like!
I was a little shocked there because the hair looked mighty curly. However, Rina says that it will straighten out. In fact, this is considered not too curly!
To make sure that the intersection looked natural, she used a straightener to smoothen the hair.
Neutralizer is applied at this point to fix the shape.
And soon, my hair was ready to wash!
My hair was not done yet!
As Rina recommended, she will apply a coat of red for me to add colour to my overall look.
The red certainly looked very red!
Makes me wonder what I will look like afterwards
In about 15 minutes or so, the colour was applied.
I watched some videos while waiting!
It was finally time to wash!
My hair seemed to grab the red really well.
I was initially not used to the red hair colour when I first looked in the mirror...
but the more I looked at it
the more I fell in love with the colour!
Rina didn't just stop there.
She took the effort to teach me how to blow dry my newly permed + coloured hair to give it the sexy volume that I was looking for!
Really thankful that I can now have voluminous hair without needing to tong it!
Before I do the final unveil, here are some photos of how my hair looked like before.
So this is how my hair looks like on any given day... if I don't tong or style it.
There are so many things I like about today's service that I'm not sure where to begin. Firstly the perm, the curls turned out loose, just the way I like them! It does not look auntie and definitely makes me look more feminine... without me tonging my hair! My hair also had a lot more volume than before!
Secondly, the colour. Although bright, the shade of red somehow suits me just fine... not fiery red but has a tinge of darkness that somehow represented my personality well!
My hair is also softer and looked a lot healthier thanks to the fresh coat of colour.
The real test however begins at home.
Will the perm and colour last?
It's been two weeks since the perm and colour and I must say that I'm loving the perm and colour more than ever.
I have to admit that I was slightly afraid that the perm would be unmanageable after I got home. Fortunately this was not the case. The perm was there after I washed and blowdried my hair. In fact, it is more obvious the next day after the hair wash.
As for the colour, this is how my hair looked like a week after.
Even after 2 weeks, the color red was still visible, and I liked it even more, now that it was a darker shade of red.
I'm really thankful to Rina and The Beauty Emporium by The Urban Aesthetics for giving my hair just a huge transformation from limp and damaged to volume and vibrant.
She completed the entire perm and colour procedure in just 3-4 hours with her magic hands, something I thought was impossible. (perming bleached hair) Fewer than 1 in 10 salons are capable of perming hair that has been bleached once... and even fewer (perhaps only The Beauty Emporium by The Urban Aesthetics!) can perm hair that has been bleached 4 times!
The curls turned out natural and the colour just outstanding (it also suits the festive season really well!)
I loved the perm, colour and experience so much that I will probably come back to The Beauty Emporium by The Urban Aesthetics the next time for perms and volume rebonding (although I do have a regular stylist I go to for haircuts :P)
For anyone with bleached or damaged hair like mine, I would highly recommend you to go to Rina or other stylists at The Beauty Emporium by The Urban Aesthetics to give your hair that extra volume.
