Hi, I'm Agent C.W. , inhouse writer and colour aficionado among our tightly knit Beauty Undercover team!
I'm open to trying any hair service but ever since I started bleaching my hair, I've beem stuck with colours as bleaching reduced my options for other services such as perms.
I feel a little funny (read: bored) whenever it fades to something like this.
When that happens, I start discussing with Agent G about what colour I should go for next. I usually settle on pink, not because I'm the super feminine type of girl, but because my hair tends to hold onto the pink pigments best.
Fortunately, the balayage actually still looks really good thanks to my last hair colour months ago.
Just that the yellow colour made my skin look really sallow, so I knew I was due for a fresh coat of colour and a cut.
As you're reading this, I'll be in Europe for my graduation trip. In view of that, I really wanted to spice up my hair colour.
I could go back to my usual favourite stylist but I heard great reviews about Sherlin from the new BE U Hair Design from Agent G. Once I checked out the Beauty Undercover page, I was sold.
I booked myself an appointment on a weekday appointment and embarked on my journey with BE U Hair Design.
BE U Hair Design is conveniently located in town, specifically in The Centrepoint, so it's super easy to find.
The salon is cosy but not small. It's stylish and the chairs are spaced out sufficiently with trolleys neatly placed by the mirrors.
Their product room and the washing area is hidden behind a wall of drawers, making the space look neater. It is brightly lit too, which further helps to open the space.
I met Sherlin for the first time and had really good vibes about her. Dressed in a sleek black outfit, Sherlin looked put together from top to toe (hair included!), which I later found out that she cut herself because she can't trust anyone else to do so.
Talk about high standards and expectations!
It may not be obvious in still pictures, but she has an outgoing personality which made talking to her is easy, She talked to me about my occupation, education, and previous hair experiences.
I mentioned that I wanted to keep my current balayage - hopefully not do any bleaching - and go for a darker shade.
There were no protests from her, but instead, a calm and cool-headed analysis to achieve what I asked for. To get the vibe I was looking for, she showed me several photos of hairstyles with different auras to get a better idea of who I am.
Being a sporty person, I chose to go for a playful look with soft layers. I wanted to keep my hair longer but the ends weren't in great condition, so Sherlin recommended me to get inner layers to add more volume and shape to my hair without changing the hair length.
The diagnosis wasn't over - Sherlin said that she could better decide what to recommend only after checking my hair condition after a wash.
Hair technician Sukie assisted with the hair wash and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Her massage technique was really good... though I was told that the best has yet to come.
Back in my seat, Sherlin began the haircut.
Instead of sectioning my hair into multiple sections, she only clipped a portion of my hair on each side and made sections as she went along.
I couldn't tell how it was turning out when it was wet, but I could see the shape start to form once she blow dried my hair.
This was when she started to refine the edges and adding the inner layers.
My fringe started looking more voluminous while the rest of my hair was flowy without messy looking layers. The front pieces were slightly shorter to help frame my face. Loved it aleady.
If her haircut was that good, I couldn't help but wonder about her often-raved colour.
I didn't specify a colour as I didn't mind getting a surprise. To prevent damaging my hair, she mixed a few shades of acid colours. Acid colours may sound bad at first but actually are non-damaging particularly for bleached hair. Of course I was game for that.
Since my hair's base did not need to be touched up and I prefer the more natural look (i.e. not just a single crazy colour), we decided not to do any additional bleaching.
Applying the dye straight to my hair, Sherlin and Sukie applied it all over.
While waiting, Sherlin constantly checked in to make sure the dye was getting absorbed as she wanted it to. She applied it twice more to get the best colour payoff and because she didn't want my roots to just be black.
After about 15 minutes of waiting, it was time for the final wash.
The team told me to prepare myself for one of the best hair washes of my life. And indeed it was.
The pressure applied was just right and she didn't just massage my head, but my neck and temples too.
In short, heavenly.
I enjoyed it so much that apparently I had a look of pure bliss, according to Agent G.
The scalp massage wasn't the only thing she did though. To ensure that my hair condition looks good later, Sukie applied an express treatment in the same sink. A small towel was placed under my neck for comfort and support, while a comforting warm towel was placed under my hair and around my neck.
The radiating warmth was so comforting, I can't help but fall asleep for 10 minutes.
Then, it was time for the final wash.
Once my hair was blown dried, it was time for the final styling.
The final reveal.
But first, a quick reminder of how my hair looked like previously.
Don't you find this shade of rose brown simply gorgeous?
I've tried many shades of pink but none captured my heart like this shade of dusty pink.
There's something about this shade that just fits me. The mix of femininity and ruggedness is perfect.
I'm too lazy to curl my hair so I usually wear it straight, but these loose waves/curls really makes me want to style my hair more.
It may be my first time here but I had such a good time that it is easily bumped up to my list of top 3 favourite salons. The environment is warm, played good old songs that I actually remember (e.g. Taylor Swift and One Direction) but most importantly, the staff are good at what they do.
The colour was customized exactly to my personality and took just over two hours to achieve this effortlessly feminine haircut.
Now let's just hope that the colour lasts.
It has been a little over a month since my hair appointment and my hair colour is still visible despite the environmental changes going between Singapore and Europe!
While the colour is not as bright or vibrant, the reddish hue is still there and it faded evenly.
I moved around Europe, made a stop back home, and went off again. The colour did not disappoint - this is how it looks two months after the dye job:
It's not that clear through the screen, but my hair is still tinted with no weird colour patches.
I'm already thinking about when I should go back for a fresh round of colour... maybe even in the same shade!
