Yes, we all know by now that consuming large amounts of sugar is bad. It can cause weight gain, makes us more susceptible to diabetes, heart diseases, acne and a whole host of other issues - a reason why Singapore's Ministry of Health has declared a war against sugar in recent years.
Did you know, however, that sugar can actually be REALLY REALLY GOOD... for your hair? A company in the US managed to harvest two special ingredients from sugar: Hydroxypropyl Gluconamide and Hydroxypropyl Ammonium Gluconate. Effective across a wide pH range, these two hard-to-pronounce ingredients penetrate deep into hair fibers to strengthen and restore damaged hair.
Being at the forefront of hair in Singapore, Chez Vous Hair Salon @ Ngee Ann City is the first in Singapore to incorporate that into their brand new Singapore-developed, European-awarded treatment: Sugar Hair Lamination. Read on to find out more about it.
While every hair treatment promises softness, smoothness and shine, any woman knows to take big promises with a pinch of salt. Sure, many treatments lend locks lustre, but don't eradicate tangles, and any resulting softness might fade after a few days. Unacceptable when you're paying a good chunk of your salary! The Sugar Hair Lamination however very obviously improves hair health, with dazzling effects that really last.
This treatment is at the very tip of the cutting edge, only hitting the scene in 2020.
Unlike other Hair Lamination services, this exclusive treatment from Chez Vous Hair Salon @ Ngee Ann City will not only coat your hair externally with a proprietary thin layer of laminate made up of ceramides, collagen, hydrolysed silk and natural oils, but also strengthen them internally using state-of-the-art Sugar-based Hair Strengthening Actives such as Hydroxypropyl Gluconamide* and Hydroxypropyl Ammonium Gluconate. It's a mouthful, but a luscious one.
These patented and innovative ingredients penetrate deep into the cortex to create new hydrogen and ionic bonds, strengthening hair's internal structure by up to 3X to prevent breakage and reduce damage.
In fact, Sugar Hair Lamination is so modern that it's practically in the future - while most treatments only repair existing damage, this treatment also adds a protective barrier to reduce hair trauma to come, whether in the form of loss of moisture, or physical trauma from sunlight, heat, styling and over-washing. It does this by sealing the cuticles on each strand and restoring the defensive layer on our hair.
This is NOT a Keratin Hair Treatment, so it’s perfect for women who would love to retain their wonderful waves. While there are other non-straightening treatments out there, because of points 1-3, they are left trailing in this treatment's sweet sugary dust.
The Sugar Hair Lamination was developed in Singapore at Chez Vous Hair Salon @ Ngee Ann City but the ingredients have won the Gold Award for Best Excipient at the In-Cosmetics Show in Europe. (An excipient is a substance that acts as the vehicle between other awesome active substances and your hair. You're welcome.)
What does Sugar Hair Lamination entail? To see if it's as miraculous as it sounds, we've got Chief Editor Agent G to give it a go.
Hi I'm Agent G. It's been a year since my last perm! My hair has pretty much grown out while the rest of my hair has obviously lost its lustre.
I try to help my hair health along with hair masks and hair treatments, but there is a limit to which these treatments can go. Most of these treatments tend to last only 1-2 washes; those that last longer usually make my hair straighter, which is a waste of a good perm.
As a result, my hair is now dry and has developed tangles along the way.
So when Chez Vous Hair Salon told me that they invented a longer-lasting treatment that could make my hair smooth and shiny WITHOUT taking away my curls, I was sold.
Could this new treatment bring my curls back to life?
My stylist of the day was Readen. He very kindly passed me a drinks menu that woohoo includes all sorts of teas and coffees!
While the Cocoa Cappucino certainly sounded delicious-o, I opted for the calorie-light Anti-Aging Tea that I so badly need.
He then proceeded to explain about today's treatment in detail.
The 60 minute treatment included
Sounds like my 60 minutes here is gonna be power packed!
At the seat, Readen brought out his nice-smelling shampoo and gave my hair a good wash.
Once again, this cleans my hair of impurities so that the treatment could achieve maximum hair penetration.
Again, I was spoilt: While other salons have customers brought to the wash basin, here the shampoo and water were brought to me!
I didn't have to tilt my head back in that awkward way where you stare uncomfortably up at your stylist, because Readen is a hair-wash hotshot. I could keep my head properly upright, and not a bit of the water and shampoo trickled down my face, neck or ears.
Cleanliness had been achieved, and comfort took over as Readen massaged my scalp for a few minutes. Ahh.
Only then did I head to the sink for a quick rinse-off.
Readen gently brushed out my hair to remove any tangles - Knowing my hair, I'm sure there were quite a few, but I didn't feel a thing.
Then, the sugar-based hair strengthening actives were applied.
Important note: According to Readen's expert authority, these are not made from table sugars, but scientifically manufactured specialist sugars exclusively for feeding your hair, not your mouth.
So resist the temptation to lick your locks.
(And please don't put sugar solution on your hair... it'll probably lure some ants but does nothing for your hair).
This was followed by the Lamination Concentrates - a miraculous medley of various Ceramides, Collagen, Hydrolysed Silk and Natural Oils.
Readen applied it to small sections of my hair at a time, ensuring every bit of it was thoroughly marinated in the marvelous liquid.
Next, an O3 mist was used to facilitate greater absorption. I always love sitting under this misting machine, it makes my scalp feel so clean and cool.
Finally, my hair was ironed to seal in the treatment.
A special non-damage flat iron is used for this step.
No way I would allow a flat iron near my precious perm otherwise.
Time for the final wash and rinse!
Finally, Readen massaged leave-in heat protection serum onto my locks and blowdried it.
He also generously shared certain pearls of wisdom to help me do my own styling and drying at home, to always have that stepped-out-of-salon style.
Reday to see the final result?
Silky-smooth and super shiny...Now that's healthy hair!
Not only is my perm perfectly preserved, the new sheen and smoothness highlight the waves gorgeously.
My head is now a glistening ocean.
The treatment's not all style no substance either - Look how easily my fingers comb through my hair!
Anyone gonna ask me for a hair commercial?
The cherry on top of this sweet sugar treatment?
Despite their claims about the treatment lasting only 2 weeks, I could feel that my hair was smoother and more voluminous than before even 6 weeks after the treatment.
Really thankful that I got to do this not too long before the Circuit Breaker!
Who knew sugar could be so good for you?
