We've all heard about how good Japanese service is and for us lucky enough to head to the Land of the Rising Sun, we've all experienced it in person.
Right from the bellowing ‘irasshaimase’ as you step inside a restaurant or the attentiveness and courtesy your host shows you during the home stay, the incredible sense of hospitality is so distinctive, they even coined a term for it: omotenashi.
You don't have to travel all the way to Japan just to experience it though; there are a number of hair salons fully staffed by Japanese stylists who'll offer you a slice of Japan right here in Singapore.
And the one that caught our attention? WHITETREE Salon.
Located on the second level of a shophouse along Circular Rd, WHITETREE Salon reminds us of one of those boutique cafes in Shibuya. With wide swaths of cream in the background and light wooden furnitures, WHITETREE Salon provides the perfect backdrop for your #newhair selfie.
This salon doesn't just take care of your hair, its cafe serves healthy, low-calorie food specially designed by a top Japanese dietician. This makes WHITETREE Salon the perfect spot for a girls' day out with a hair appointment in the morning and some afternoon tea at the cafe right after. Those who work around Raffles Place will also appreciate how it's a great place to chillax after work.
P.S. You can come here for your lunch / afternoon meeting as well - without doing your hair!
Knowing how stressed work makes you feel, WHITETREE Salon came up with the first Bikami Head Spa menu in Singapore. Consisting of a hair trim, head spa, your choice of hair or scalp treatment + head + neck + shoulder AND a complimentary wellness tea, the Bikami Menu is created to be a hair service you can come by weekly to get your hair and scalp in tip-top condition at all times.
Much more than a wash and blow, the stylist here trims your hair and uses top quality scalp and hair products during the service. They don't just take care of your hair and scalp though; WHITETREE Salon also serve their proprietary wellness tea during the service to help alleviate your fatigue, boost immunity and improve digestion.
Understand why we recommend you to come by after work now?
Being a Japanese hair salon, this entire experience is performed by a Japanese hairstylist from start to finish. You don't have to worry about miscommunication as Koichi has been in Singapore for a number of years; he has picked up quite a bit of Singlish and also understand our local preferences really well - so you don't have to say much and he'll understand what you're looking for. Most importantly, his lather cut is so good, Koichi can make your hair look and feel voluminous with haircut alone!
So if you've always been curious about how a Japanese hairstylist is different from a local one, Koichi from WHITETREE Salon is definitely a good stylist to start with
Prices for haircuts by Japanese hairstylists typically start at $90 but the founder of WHITETREE Salon specially created this Bikami menu at $70 to make the Japanese self-care experience more accessible to us here in Singapore.

Hi, I'm Agent R, founder of @theweekendfloristsg. We offer specially curated bouquets, DIY flowers as well as flower arrangement classes, some of which can be purchased at WHITETREE Salon itself.
In fact, I recently organized a Mother's Day Tea Blending and Flower Arrangement workshop at WHITETREE Salon itself.
I love the place as it is very centralized, easy to get to and as you can see, absolutely gorgeous.
The first service that caught my eye here was the Bikami menu. At $70, it was downright affordable and seemed to give me everything I needed: a trim, head spa, hair or scalp treatment and complimentary wellness tea.
So I made an appointment on a weekday and went for it.
I was slightly late for my appointment but Koichi san was still as welcoming as ever. He greeted me at the door and escorted me to my seat, which was right behind the cafe.
Even though it started with a trim, Koichi san still made the effort to understand more about my hair history and the style I liked so that he could give me the precise style I was looking for.
My hair is very fine and thin. Every time I try to keep my hair a little longer, my hair breaks. Understanding that, Koichi was careful to trim only the split ends off so I could keep my hair at this length.
Next, Koichi san escorted me to the wash area and even covered me with a blanket to make sure I was comfortable.
Once I lay down, he wet my hair and began the hair wash.
As I inhale the scent of the Adjuvant shampoo and enjoy Koichi's amazing massage techniques, I feel my eyes grow heavy.
Koichi then proceeds to give my head a thorough massage.
Ah... definitely one of the best head massages I've tried thus far in Singapore.
Luckily for me, this did not spell the end of my head massage. After rinsing the shampoo off, Koichi applied the CRONNA Cleansing Spa Shampoo Sumi and guess what, massaged it in my hair.
Look at all that foam!
This highly dense carbonated foam shampoo helps to improve blood circulation and contains charcoal to remove dirt from hair and scalp that is difficult to clean with normal shampoo.
So blissful I was, as he gave me yet another 5 minutes of amazing head massage.
At this point, Koichi gently asked if I would like to go for a scalp conditioning treatment or a hair cuticle treatment. Given that I had coloured my hair not too long ago and my hair looked a tad bit frizzy, I opted for the hair cuticle treatment.
Koichi then squeezed a huge wallop of the Hoyu Lasting Mask Promaster Colour Care and applied it onto my hair.
After about 10 minutes, Koichi escorted me back to the seat.
That was not the end of the pampering session.
Back at the seat, Koichi gave me yet another 5 minutes of shoulder massage.
One word... SHIOK!
When the shoulder massage was complete, Koichi san sprayed the Vivifying Remedy Sensitive Scalp serum to calm my scalp.
To make sure that the scalp serum penetrates the scalp more deeply, guess what he did?
Another head massage of course!
Can you see how much I'm enjoying this?
There were so much massages that I was a little sad as the massages finally came to an end.
Seeing Koichi san style my hair afterwards, however, brought a smile to my face.
And we're done!
I didn't realize how much I needed this until I went for the Bikami menu. You see, I've been having so many late nights that I was feeling a tad bit burned out. In just 70 minutes, Koichi's amazing bikami seemed to knead all my tension away with the pampering massages.
I don't know if you can tell but my scalp, my head and even my mind feel a lot more refreshed after this.
Thank you Koichi and WHITETREE Salon for this experience.
With such amazing service at a price as low as $70, I know I'll be back!
