Makeover #1: Cut + Amplified Treatment Rebonding

Amplified Treatment Rebonding + Haircut by Chez Vous Hair Salon

Working professional: Rashmi

Hair done by: Jamie Seah (Associate Salon Director)

Rashmi's concerns:

* Her client-facing job requires her to sport a chic yet simple look.

* Her hair tends to be unruly and messy due to her natural curls and dry texture

Recommended style:

Due to her highly sensitised hair ends and frizzy hair nature, Jamie chose to do the ‘Amplified Treatment Rebond’ for Rashmi. Using a combination of 20% Rebonding and 80% Keratin Treatment, her hair was tamed while preventing further damage. Jamie also gave her this year’s most sought-after signature haircut trend, the Lob (Long Bob), to elongate Rashmi’s face shape while giving her the professional and sleek image she desired.

Makeover #2: Haircut

pixie haircut

Working professional: Joanna

Hair done by: Hensley Chin (Director)

Joanna's concerns:

* Joanna would like to sport a fresh look for the season but does not want to colour her hair.

* She would prefer her hairstyle to be fuss-free and low-maintenance.

Recommended style:

Joanna has a strong and out-going personality, and is gifted with nice facial features that are hidden behind her long tresses. Hensley decided to give her a refreshing pixie cut that complements her character and accentuates her features. Who says a makeover has to involve colouring, highlighting or perming?

Makeover #3: Cut + Expertligent Colour + Highlights

Cut + Expertligent Colour + Highlights

Working professional: Lavonne

Hair done by: Veyond Chong (Associate Salon Director)

Lavonne's concerns:

* Lavonne does not want just basic colours and highlights.

* She prefers something creative to complement her haircut and also prefers to keep her current hair length.

Recommended style:

Lavonne’s hair ends are dry and heavy. Veyond decided to snip off the ends and redistribute the weight by giving Lavonne some soft layers, ensuring that the cut was proportionate and complemented Lavonne’s facial features. Veyond also shortened Lavonne’s bangs to brighten up her overall look. Also, Veyond carefully placed a few free-hand highlights using a combination of blonde, warm copper and cinnamon orange streaks to complement the haircut, while adding texture and dimensions to the hair. These colours were selected with Lavonne’s warm skin tone in mind.

Makeover #4: Cut + Hair Colour + Highlights

Cut + Hair Colour + Highlights

Working professional: Shelly

Hair done by: Lynn Koh (Associate Salon Director/Caucasian Hair Specialist)

Shelly's concerns:

* Shelly is into sports and wants a wash & wear cut that is easy to maintain.

* She also requested for a hair colour that requires minimal retouching.

* She fancies a tousled look as opposed to something neat.

Recommended style:

Bearing in mind that Shelly does not want to regularly touch up her roots, Lynn chose a dark chocolate brown hair colour that is close to Shelly's natural hair colour. To ensure that Shelly’s virgin hair blends in nicely with the chosen hair colour, Lynn deliberately inserted natural looking baby lights (a micro-highlighting technique) to create additional texture. Lynn used a slicing hair-cut technique to create additional texture without removing too much weight, which can be difficult to manage when hair is not styled. A soft fringe was also created to bring focus to Shelly’s expressive eyes.

Makeover #5: Cut + Blonde Highlights

Cut + Blonde Highlights

Working professional: Kristin

Hair done by: Khim Toh (Associate Salon Director/Caucasian Hair Specialist)

Kristin's concerns:

* Kristin wishes for a fuss-free haircut.

* Her hair colour must be something that suits her lifestyle and motherhood.

Recommended style:

Kristin has very beautiful facial features, but her current long hairstyle was “weighing” her down. Khim decided to give Kristin a signature Lob (Long Bob) that is empowering yet elegant to suit her personality. The Lob was also chosen because Khim wanted to allow Kristin to tie up her hair when taking care of her children. Khim also refreshed Kristin’s existing hair colour and enhanced the blonde by weaving in micro-highlights to perfectly blend in with her natural hair colour. Also, to brighten up her look, Khim reduced the yellow undertone in Kristin’s hair.

Makeover #6: Cut + Colour + Pre lightening + Highlights + Soft Rebonding

Haircut, Soft Rebonding and Hair Colour by Chez Vous Hair Salon

Working professional: Tara

Hair done by: Thomas Teo (Chief Director)

Tara's concerns:

* Tara was open to changes as long as the haircut is not too short.

Recommended style:

Tara was one of the most outgoing and cheerful guests Thomas has ever met. Her current hairstyle did not complement her personality and was difficult to manage. The cut lacked ‘character’. Thomas wanted to create a chic and contemporary look for her without it being boring. He gave her a sleek asymmetric Lob (Long Bob), with an ash grey peek-a-boo dip dye at the longer fringe tip areas. The cut also helped accentuate Tara’s facial features. To ensure that the hair can be easily managed, a soft rebonding was done so that Tara can recreate the same look at home without any hassle.

Makeover #7: Cut + Chez Vous 2014 Ikebana Hair Colour

Cut + Chez Vous 2014 Ikebana Hair Colour

Working professional: Amy

Hair done by: Sam Chok (Associate Salon Director)

Amy's concerns:

* Amy was open to changes as long as the haircut is not too short.

Recommended style:

Amy has really good and fair skin. In addition, she was excited to try out something new to break out of her current ‘safe’ look. To further enhance her skin tone and break away from the demure and elegant look, Sam gave her the Chez Vous 2014 Ikebana Collection look, using a combination of balayage and ombre techniques. The colour chosen was paprika red, which complements her skin tone, reduces her yellow undertones and makes her stand out from the crowd. This technique also removes colour demarcation lines so as not to take attention away from Amy's features.

Makeover #8: Cut + Colour + Korean Straightening Volume Perm + Korean Texturizing Volume Perm

Cut + Colour + Korean Straightening Volume Perm + Korean Texturizing Volume Perm

Working professional: Fiona

Hair done by: Lois Park (Associate Salon Director)

Fiona's concerns:

* Fiona was open to any changes.

Recommended style:

Fiona has really nice features that are overshadowed by her long hair. Lois wanted to give Fiona a soft cut that accentuates her features and decided to give her a Korean-inspired pageboy cut. As Fiona’s hair is a little fine and flat around the crown area, Lois did a Korean straightening volume perm at the roots to give her the root lift she needs while smoothing the roots area. For the ends, Lois used the Korean texturising digital perm technique to create additional dimensions. The perm also helps soften Fiona’s look further. A rich hazel brown was used to frame the outline of the cut in order to complement Fiona's skin hue.

Makeover #9: Cut + Amplified Keratin Treatment + Colour

diamond shape face haircut

Working professional: Jolene

Hair done by: Riz Tan (Chief Director)

Jolene's concerns:

* Jolene’s hair was unruly and she needed a style that suits her job profile as a businesswoman.

Recommended style:

Jolene’s previous haircut was an ‘A’ line cut, which brought unwanted attention to her cheeks and jawline. Riz gave her a soft-bob to frame up her face. In addition, the cut gives her a chic and contemporary, yet professional look. A dark tone was also added to give Jolene a more empowering look. Riz also gave Jolene an Amplified Keratin Treatment to smoothen her natural waves while treating her hair with the moisture and nutrients it needs. This way, Jolene can focus on expanding her business rather than styling her hair.

Makeover #10: Cut + Blonde Micro-highlight + Glazing

Cut + Blonde Micro-highlight + Glazing

Working professional: Clare

Hair done by: Lynn Koh (Associate Salon Director/Caucasian Hair Specialist)

Clare's concerns:

* Clare was unable to find a suitable colourist in Singapore who could create her desired style of blonde (the colours she's got so far mostly turned copper or yellow).

Recommended style:

As Clare’s hair was not able to withstand pure pre-lightener, Lynn double processed the hair by mixing pre-lightener with colour. A tone was then put over to achieve the blonde colour Clare desired. Lynn also gave Clare a shoulder-length cut and some soft layerings to complete the final look.

Makeover #11: Cut + Colour

mod cut

Working professional: Karina

Hair done by: Hensley Chin (Director)

Karina's concerns:

* Karina wanted to sport a new and fresh look which is job appropriate.

Recommended style:

Karina is girlish and bubbly. However, working at a brand consultancy firm, she needs to sport a professional look. Thus, Hensley created a mod cut which though sweet and chic, empowers her looks at work. A rich dark chocolate brown hair colour was given to make the mod cut more distinct and striking.

Makeover #12: Cut + Roots Retouch + Korean Straightening Volume Perm + Amplified Treatment Korean Digital Perm

Cut + Roots Retouch + Korean Straightening Volume Perm + Amplified Treatment Korean Digital Perm

Working professional: Yvonne

Hair done by: Lois Park (Associate Salon Director)

Yvonne's concerns:

* Yvonne would like to fix her hair ends as they are limp and dry.

* Her roots area is wavy and flat.

Recommended style:

Yvonne’s hair ends were weak and dry as they had been bleached several times. Lois gave Yvonne an Amplified Treatment Korean Perm (Digital) to give her some gentle waves and curls while minimising the damage done to her hair. The perm will also take the attention away from her dry hair ends. To resolve the issue of the wavy and flat hair around Yvonne's crown area, Lois did a Korean straightening volume perm at the roots to give Yvonne the lift she needs while smoothing the roots area.

Makeover #13: Cut + Colour + Panel Highlights

Cut + Colour + Panel Highlights

Working professional: Min Hua

Hair done by: Thomas Teo (Chief Director)

Min Hua's concerns:

* Min Hua was suffering from post natal hair loss.

* She did not have time to visit the salon frequently to retouch her hair colour.

Recommended style:

To address Min Hua’s concerns, Thomas used a graduated layering technique to texturise her hair and take off the unnecessary weight. This helps in reducing hair fall and creates additional perceived hair volume. During consultation, Thomas realised that Min Hua’s natural colour was very dull. He chose a rich dark chocolate brown as the global colour to reduce the number of times she would need a root retouch. This also creates additional perceived density for her hair. He added caramel panel highlights to frame Min Hua’s face for a more chic and stylish look. Who says moms can't have fashionable hair?

Makeover #14: Cut + Digital Perm

Cut + Digital Perm

Working professional: Jessica

Hair done by: Barry Lim (Director)

Jessica's concerns:

* Jessica would like more volume and texture in her hair.

Recommended style:

Barry did a digital perm for Jessica, coupled with his signature B-drive layering to create additional texture and dimension. The heavy base curls also help take attention away from Jessica’s jawline and cheek bone; a ‘slimming effect’ without having to go under the knife!

Makeover #15: Cut + Chez Vous 2014 Ikebana Hair Colour

Cut + Chez Vous 2014 Ikebana Hair Colour

Working professional: Audrey

Hair done by: Serene Tan (Associate Salon Director)

Audrey's concerns:

* Audrey did not want to chop her hair.

* She did not want dark colours.

Recommended style:

Audrey has a strong personality and a great fashion sense. She was willing to try bright colours. To complement Audrey's character and style, Serene gave her the ‘Chez Vous 2014 Ikebana Collection’ look, using a combination of balayage and ombre techniques. Fiery red with a mix of deconstructed berry hue complemented Audrey's skin tone really well, ‘neutralizing’ the sallow undertones most Asians have. To better frame Audrey’s facial features, Serene deliberately kept the inner sections of her hair darker. Instead of having individual streaks or patches of colour that steal attention away from the wearer, the Ikebana collection skilfully blends every piece and strand of hair with harmonising colour combinations to form a gradually dyed floral arrangement.

Makeover #16: Cut + Amplified Keratin Hair Treatment

Cut + Amplified Keratin Hair Treatment

Working professional: Caryn

Hair done by: Veyond Chong (Associate Salon Director)

Caryn's concerns:

* Caryn was unable to take bright colours due to work requirements.

Recommended style:

Caryn has natural waves which makes her hair difficult to manage. Veyond gave her hair an Amplified Keratin Treatment to smooth out her mane without damaging her hair, while giving her hair the moisture and nutrients it needs. She also cut a soft fringe for Caryn to create a more girly and stylish look.

Makeover #17: Cut + Chez Vous 2014 Ikebana Hair Colour

Cut + Chez Vous 2014 Ikebana Hair Colour

Working professional: Irene

Hair done by: Serene Tan (Associate Salon Director)

Irene's concerns:

* Irene was open to any changes.

Recommended style:

Serene gave Irene the Chez Vous 2014 Ikebana Collection look, using a combination of balayage and ombre techniques. The colours chosen were blonde caramel streaks mixed with a warm chocolate brown global colour, which complemented her skin tone well. This colour combination creates a creative yet effortless look. Through the brilliant execution of traditional weave and slice techniques, intertwined with the current balaombre colouring method, Irene’s hair was brought to life with greater depth, texture and dimension. Irene’s hair colour will unfold overtime after every wash, blending the new colour with the old.

Makeover #18: Men’s Dapper Cut

square face shape hair cut

Working professional: Tim

Hair done by: Khim Toh (Associate Salon Director/Caucasian Hair Specialist)

Tim's concerns:

* Tim was open to any changes except for colouring.

Recommended style:

Tim has the facial features of a model. To enhance his style, Khim chose to give him 2014’s most sought-after look – the dapper cut. This cut better allows others to focus on Tim’s stunning facial features.

Makeover #19: Cut + Colour + Highlights

Cut + Colour + Highlights

Working professional: Maxine

Hair done by: Jamie Seah (Associate Salon Director)

Maxine's concerns:

* Maxine was open to any changes but would like to maintain her current hair length.

Recommended style:

Maxine is bubbly, outgoing and cheerful. To ensure that her new look matches her character and personality, Jamie cut off an inch of Maxine’s hair to reduce the unnecessary hair mass. She also gave Maxine a perfectly blended layering to soften her look. Jamie then carefully weaved in thick streaks of berry red highlights to bring out Maxine’s vibrant personality and reduce the sallowness of her skin tone. The end result is a stylish, contemporary and attractive look.

Makeover #20: Cut + Hair Colour

asymmetric bob

Working professional: Jasmine

Hair done by: Hensley Chin (Director)

Jasmine's concerns:

* Jasmine would like to cut her hair short. However, because of her protruding ears, she felt that she would not be able to pull off a short hairdo.

Recommended style:

To assure Jasmine that she could have a fuss-free short hairstyle regardless of her protruding ears, Hensley gave her an asymmetric bob to take the attention away from her ears and to complement her oval face shape. Hensley carefully distributed the weight of her hair to conceal her ears while ensuring that the hair was not excessively heavy at the bottom, which would make her look old and ‘dated’. The end result is a chic professional look, ready to rock the world!

Makeover #21: Cut + Colour + Highlight

Cut + Colour + Highlight

Working professional: Janice

Hair done by: Thomas Teo (Chief Director)

Janice's concerns:

* Janice wanted a look that suits her banking profession.

* She was unwilling to cut her hair short.

Recommended style:

Instead of complementing her skin tone, Janice’s hair colour matched it exactly. Her copper brown hair blended in too well with her bronzy skin tone, masking her beautiful facial features. To change that, Thomas selected a soft black global colour to emphasise the contrast between her hair and facial features. The carefully placed honey caramel highlights enhances the haircut and creates movement on her hair. The new hairdo highlights and accentuates Janice's features better, while giving her hair additional texture and definition.

Makeover #22: Cut + Redken Blur Brush Hair Colouring 2014/15

Cut + Redken Blur Brush Hair Colouring 2014/15

Working professional: Emily

Hair done by: Sam Chok (Associate Salon Director)

Emily's concerns:

* Emily wanted to do away with her usual brown hair and try something outrageous for once.

* Her current profession allows her to have creative hair colours.

Recommended style:

During the consultation, Sam realised that Emily was bored with her usual hair colours despite having tried many different techniques and trends. She seemed determined to break away from her previous hair colours, which was why Sam used Redken's latest blur brush colouring technique to design a mermaid hair colour for Emily. Sam also created dark panel highlights at the inner section of Emily's hair to give her the extra ‘character’ and ‘edge’.

Makeover #23: Cut + Highlight

Cut + Highlight

Working professional: Kenneth

Hair done by: Thomas Teo (Chief Director)

Kenneth's concerns:

* Kenneth was open to any changes.

Recommended style:

Kenneth recently permed his hair and it was not economical for Thomas to make too many changes as it would compromise Kenneth’s hair health. Thomas chose to give Kenneth a dapper cut and used streaks of ash brown highlights to give his hair more texture and dimension, giving him a fashionable and stylish look.

Makeover #24: Cut + Pre-lightening + Colour + Highlight

Cut + Pre-lightening + Colour + Highlight

Working professional: Debbie

Hair done by: Barry Lim (Director)

Debbie's concerns:

* Debbie was open to any changes except for cutting her hair short.

Recommended style:

Debbie has a big personality: she’s fun, outspoken and outgoing. Her current hairdo and black hair looked too ‘harsh’ on her. Taking Debbie’s profession into consideration, Barry designed a mid-length look that is soft yet empowering. In order to soften her hair colour, Barry pre-lightened Debbie’s hair several times to remove the black pigment. Then, he gave her a rich global brown colour with copper-brown sectional highlight inserts. The highlights add dimension to her hair and better reflect her personality. These highlights were also more subdued as Barry felt that Debbie’s profession required an authoritative and serious look.

Makeover #25: Cut + Pre-lightening + Glazing + Dip Dye

Cut + Pre-lightening + Glazing + Dip Dye

Working professional: Karen

Hair done by: Barry Lim (Director)

Karen's concerns:

* Karen was open to any changes except for cutting her hair short.

Recommended style:

As Karen's profession allows her to sport creative colours, Barry decided to use a matt ash silver with a blue dip dye at the tip of her fringe. This gives her a stylish look without being overly attention seeking and loud. Barry then give her hair some layers so that Karen could easily recreate this year's Tousled Bob back at home. This creates a textured and fun look as opposed to being sleek and serious.
