Hello, I'm Agent PL, a public service officer currently working at a statutory board.
I'm an unlikely Beauty Undercover Agent because I actually do not try new hairstylists often. Since young, I have very stubborn natural curls that are really hard to manage. They make me look really unkempt so I always kept it short, like a tomboy.
Until... Japanese rebonding technology came about. It allowed me to enjoy long straight hair, at least for a few months. It was however a dread to go for every rebonding sessions as it would take 5-6 hours to straighten my thick and stubborn hair. I have had a few negative experiences where the rebonding had to be repeated because the effect was not desirable. Hair regrowth after rebonding also made me look very strange.
I finally stopped rebonding when I was pregnant with my second child. As I abstained from hair chemicals during that period, my rebonded hair was replaced by my natural curly hair. Thanks to the pregnancy, my natural curls also became less strong and more manageable.
I have therefore been thinking... can I actually stop rebonding altogether and just sport my natural curls?
I recently got my hair cut and this is how my hair looks like now.
It actually looks a lot better than what it used to look. However, I'm wondering if there is a stylist who can make my hair look even better than it is now...
New Year, New Look right?
I talked to my girlfriend about who to go for and she got me to check out Hidero from The Beauty Emporium by The Urban Aesthetics. She shared that The Beauty Emporium by The Urban Aesthetics is a new premium hair salon in Raffles City. Hidero-san is this really skillful Japanese hairstylist who is so good that he has previously cut hair for Hollywood A-listers frequently.
I am worried about new stylists cutting my curls and giving me a nightmare with its maintenance. However, I decided to make an appointment after hearing raves from her.
It was a weekday. The salon was a little challenging to find but I felt very welcomed by their warm service staff and premium but relaxing decor and ambience.
Hidero-san was already waiting for me before I even stepped in. He is a little older than the usual stylist I've been to but it is to me a point of merit; it is clear from his consultation and later on his haircutting skills that Hidero-san is indeed someone with a lot of experience and knowledge.
Despite his years of experience, though, I'm glad to note that he was all ears when listening to my requests. He was very patient during the consultation, checking my hair and sharing his thoughts about what suits me best.
A gentle and slightly soft-spoken stylist, Hidero-san actually complimented my hair texture. He enjoys cutting hair for ladies with wavy and curly hair texture because it helps the customer achieve an ideal hair shape without needing to perm. There were some technical issues with my previous haircut but he assured me that they will be corrected.
As I stressed on how much I want my hair to look professional yet easily maintainable, Hidero suggested a bob haircut together with a colour to brighten up my overall look.
He also proposed a fringe to better frame my face. I haven't had fringe in a long time so I was a little skeptical... but I'm willing to try it out if he is confident!
I was a little surprised when Hidero brought me to the hair wash area and personally did the hair wash for me.
Other stylists would usually hand over the washing part to the hair assistants so I'm positively surprised to find Hidero-san doing it personally.
He was very careful to keep the water temperature was comfortable and that the water did not reach my face.
Back at the seat, Hidero-san blew dry my hair a little before doing his final examination of my hair.
As hair displays a different texture when it is wet, he was able to see my curls more clearly and where the previous haircut went wrong.
He proceeded to perform the haircut.
He was very focused during the cut
So we didn't chat much during the cut itself.
However, he took the time to explain what he was doing from time to time so I was kept informed throughout the service.
I could see a smile on his face when the shape finally took hold.
Hidero-san was not yet done.
He blew my hair dry before doing his final trim.
As black is a little too harsh on me, Hidero-san suggested easily manageable brown highlights to lighten up my overall complexion without needing to worry about hair regrowth. He also promised that the colour design will still be very suitable for work!
Very meticulously, Hidero-san divided my hair into many sections before proceeding to apply the lightener on my hair.
Although the process is more tedious, Hidero mentions that dividing into smaller sections gives the more natural babylight effect.
Once application was complete, I waited another 20 minutes or so before going for the wash.
Back at the seat, my hair was blown dry before Hidero-san applied a coat of colour over my hair.
After the hair was adequately processed, I went for my final hair wash of the day.
One last blow dry later...
And we are almost done!
Are you excited to see how my hair turned out?
Just in case you forget how my hair looked like? This is a recap.
What do you think?
I was thrilled when I saw the final results! Hidero-san said that he would give me a bangs cut. I didn't know what to expect but was glad how awesome it looked on me.
In addition, my curls looked a lot prettier after his cut. Without perming or straightening my hair, Hidero-san worked on my natural curls and enhanced how it looks with just a cut! I'm glad to note that I don't look like a siao zha bo with this cut anymore and more like an OL after this!
Hidero-san was also very astute to note that I did not like loud and extravagant colours. Instead, he used the babylights technique to give me a colour and highlight that really complemented my skin tone, something I really liked!
As much as I loved the cut and colour, I would only know the hair service is done well if the people around me respond positively to it... and they did! Friends and colleagues know how much I struggled with my hair previously. So when they saw my new hairdo, many complimented on the cut and colour and even asked me where I did both at!
I was even more flattered recently when I bumped into a long-time friend some days ago; she shared how she couldn't recognize me instantly because my hair looked so much better!
So yes, you can say that I'm extremely happy with my new hair. It doesn't just look good though, my hair is now very easy to maintain. Hidero-san took the time to gave me tips on how I can do a light blow-dry after each wash so that it would be softer and more manageable. I decided to listen to his advice and true enough, 5 minutes of my time each day is more than enough to achieve a sleeker feel.
Thank you, Hidero-san for your amazing service and hair services!
For those of you who have challenging hair types like mine but am not keen to straighten your hair, I would highly recommend you to entrust your hair to a professional like Hidero! He really listens to what you say and is so skilful, he is able to give what you're thinking about without you saying too much.
Thank you once again and I hope to come back again soon!
