Disappointed 1st try out with Apgujeong

Shown the stylist a IG story clip that i wanted a Korean Iron perm. In the end my hair dont even have the perm's effect at all. Really disappointed. And i paid $359.55 for a very normal haircutting experience!! (Review not yet verified)

Bad customer service

Had a haircut with stylist Sol. It didnt start well when she sounded impatient on how much i want to cut short. She responded ‘just tell me how short u want’. This is the first time i find stylist can be quite rude. Upon haircut, i found that the back looks flat n stiff so asked to layer a bit more. but she responded it doesnt make much difference. i insisted to go ahead. She didn’t bother to let me check after further layering, only took out the mirror after i asked. appear quite unwilling, she asked me “u want to see the backside is it?” repeated a few times, it appear to me she intentionally used the word backside, sounded insulting. yet not a single thank you while i made payment. is quite a bad experience and dont think i will go back ever. Never ever again!

I was pestered to take up the hair treatment or else to sign a form to declare not to write bad about them etc. For a cold perm with supposedly root perm and hair treatment, I had to pay $436.55! Disappointing and unpleasant experience as I not only wasted my time and spent much hard-earned money to get my hair spoilt, flatten at the top and frizzy and puffy at the sides. My hair was fairly thick and healthy and glossy before.

Now my hair is worse off than before, dry, flattened top and puffy at the sides! I regretted having gone to that salon to be exploited in paying a high price for such a poor outcome.

For Hougang Branch

I must agree with majority of the feedbacks here that the price is a bomb. Did perming which already cost $500 excluding gst. And they have very good sales techniques too. Will definitely not return.

Too expensive!!!

This saloon charged extremely high price whereby you can get almost similar hair cut and hair perming in other saloons. Paid about $880 for a perm which look about the same in another saloon which only charged me at $420. Treatment of hair after perm is about the same as the other saloon. Very upset with the hair stylist and saloon as I thought with the higher price I paid, my hair would come out amazing . Never expected that this is such a great disappointment . It will be my last visit there.

Major Disappointment - No More

My experience with this salon is disappointing. The stylist come and go and every time I have to get someone new to cut my hair. Previously Julia was a really good stylist but since she has left, I have gone through 3 new faces to cut my hair. Yesterday's visit I chose an Asst Dir (can't go wrong with a senior right) to cut and she was late for 15 mins. No apologies whatsoever when she appeared and communication was minimal. I relayed what I needed and throughout the cut was half hearted and effortless. Even the wash was close to non existent! The guy barely shampooed and even knocked my head with the shower head, sigh! The hygiene and cleanliness of place is pretty bad, Hairs everywhere on floor, stuck to mirrors and table. I don't think they take pride in their work and shop at all. Other salons I have visited will sweep after each customer the least. There are much better Korean salons out there who charge way lower and offer better professional services.

Bad experience at Jurong Point outlet

Staff were sales aggresive. Stylist was not professional, paid $48 for a less than 20 minutes cut.

Visited for the first time at jurong point outlet for a hair cut. Before seeing the stylist, staff recommended that i do a hair treatment which i explained that i still have unfinished treatment package elsewhere. The korean female stylist looked at my hair and recommended rebonding. All i wanted was a trim and did not want to rebond as my hair was alr very damaged. She said my hair would still be frizzy even after trimming if i did not want to rebond.

Even though i politely refused, the stylist was visibly unhappy that i refused to splurge extra for their hair service. When i asked the stylist whether shoulder hair length would suit my face shape, she shrugged her shoulders and replied with a nonchalant face “up to you”. At this point i already had no more expectation for this place. After the staff gave my hair a quick wash, the stylist proceeded to finish up cutting/blow drying/straightening my hair all within 20 minutes. No explaination about hair care, no customer service whatsoever, but she did remember to ask the staff to bring out more products for me to purchase.

The most horrifying part was that she straighten my hair when it wasn’t 100% dry and i could see steam coming out from my hair. Even a non-professional knows the level of damage this does to your hair. I can get better service at a neighbourhood salon or even a 10 minute cut shop. Utterly disappointed. This will be the last time i am setting foot in any one of apgujeong salons.

Biggest Regret

1) Dishonest. The pricing given at the salon (when you are literally on their chair and can't leave) and the pricing shown on the menu is very different. i.e. my hair length is considered long on the website but to their eyes, considered very long & the hair treatment is $50 on the menu, but $150 when you are there.

2) Hardsell. I did not enjoy the experience at all because there was hardselling from the start till the end. Please respect your client when they reject you more than 5 times, stop pushing it, its very annoying.

3) Extremely annoying. When i ask for the colour i want, he just keep asking me to go wilder and more adventurous colour even though i already stated that i will be working frontline. I proceeded to choose a dark shade but he mix in a brighter shade without telling me, until the dye was fully done. Is there respect at all? no i do not think so.

Current Feelings: I hate my hair colour and do not feel like any part of the experience was worth my money even though i spent over $400.

I can only say that i should have done enough research before stepping into such a salon.

Full colour, highlights and cut

Sienna has cut my hair twice now, giving me a cool layered edgy bob that has a gradient towards the front. The salon is bright, clean and comfortable. They offer tea, coffee or water along with a biscuit for refreshments. The conditioner smells wonderful and I wasn't treated to a sales pitch which was great. You often have 2 people working to blowdry/apply colour so it is a much more efficient process. I requested a colour treatment - base colour and highlights and the options and price was clearly explained to me beforehand. It's not cheap, but I opted for the non-chemical blends. The only issue is the language barrier - I had a photo but the stylist wasn't totally clear on what I wanted so I ended up with a much lighter base (almost strawberry blonde) than requested. However, I made an appointment to have this fixed and the stylists saw me early the next morning. After carefully explaining what I wanted, she fixed the colour (both base and highlights) and her colleague gave me a purple toner rinse to ensure the colour would not turn brassy. This treatment was done for free. I am now very happy with the result (now a light ashen brown) and will continue to go back. I recommend taking a photo and carefully explaining your desired style with the colour swatches provided.

Dishonest and hard sell

Why give price list but don't follow. Just because it is a korean brand name and got 1 korean stylist, the price must be expensive? Location is at heartland but pricey! Hard sell and very persistent. No hair massage or ipad only free wifi. Ask customers if they want korean maggie and gong cha. Hint for pricey bill? Overall, still very dishonest even when I have informed my budget. Think twice in going this studio. There are better salons out there with local pricing. Korean brand doesn't mean it should be expensive! I spent $600 and my hair turns out bad on the 2nd day. .

Mediocre

TLDR : Satisfied but not impressed.

For the price of the haircut I was expecting a little more. I didn't leave the salon looking like G dragon.

Overall : I went to apgujeong after being frustrated with my usual hairstylist who couldn't deliver the hair style I wanted. So I made an appointment that morning and request a senior Korean hair stylist who is experienced with Men's hair cut. I was assigned to a female hair stylist whom I can't remember her name. (sorry)

What I felt could be better:

1. The hair wash was really just a hair wash. Wet hair, Shampoo, wash off, done. No massage. Even faster than how I wash my hair everyday.

2. My hair was left dripping wet while I waited for my stylist.

3. I chose a Korean hair stylist so naturally I knew there was going to be a language barrier. I showed her a few pictures of the hair style I wanted and she nodded, conversed in simple English. In short, I was not confident if she actually understand what I want. I just hope that the reference picture was enough to convey what I wanted.

4. This is where it starts to get weird, so after the hair cut was done, another male hair stylist was asked to give my hair a quick rinse. After that, he proceeded to blow dry and style my hair. Wait... I didn't expect him to be the one styling my hair ? The thing is, the male hair stylist didn't know what hair style I wanted. So in the end he just "free styled" it. So of course it was not styled to what I wanted.

What I was glad about:

1. The hair cut overall was fine and not disastrous. (thank god)

Good service provided, but ruined my bag

Went there to dye my hair and get hair treatment, the colour turned out well and my hair had a better quality.

HOWEVER, while the hairstylist was applying the dye to my hair, some of the dye splashed onto my bag, and some made contact with my jacket.

The staff quickly took a cloth to try to clean it off but the damage was done, the dye had already seeped into my bag and jacket permanently, leaving a rather visible mark.

No attempts at apologies or compensations were made, I feel that I deserve some form of compensation or apology at least, due to the damage caused to my belongings. For that I am extremely displeased.

Very Unpleasant Experience

This was my first time visiting a salon to colour my hair and I was very disappointed.

Firstly, my stylist could not understand what I was saying and did not have the patience to look the photos that I brought for inspiration. She was frowning a lot (probably because of the language barrier) and I do not think she should be like that particularly if you are in the services sector.

Next, during the hair-washing, I felt that the hair stylist was super rough with my hair, he was using his fingernails to scratch my scalp for a good 5 minutes before he wrung my hair (like a cloth) to dry and I was very uncomfortable. Even I know that scrubbing, let alone washing, your hair with fingernails is very bad for your hair and scalp.

I don't think that normal people should handle their hair this way, let alone a hair professional. I do not even want to talk about the hair drying process.

Next, I've made it very clear that I did not want to do a hair treatment, but this stylist kept pushing me to do the hair treatment, I cannot even count the number of times he said that my hair was dry, if your client denies a service, please respect our decision. I’ve come to this salon with high hopes after reading so many good reviews but after this experience, I doubt I’ll ever come back to this salon, or even encourage my friends to come to this salon again.

Hair restored to its former glory!

I had a very good experience at Apgujeong Hair Studio under the skilled hands and expertise of Kevin, a local hairstylist, as well as cared for by Rain, who helped made my 5 hour session a pleasant and comfortable one. I happened to need a hair cut badly and was around the area, so I stepped into the salon. It was a most excellent decision. Some background - My hair was tangled and dry before I stepped into the salon.

It had been layered poorly by a salon in Toa Payoh, had split ends, and I had a lot of white and grey hair due to my DIY-ing my hair colour at home. With three kids, I thought DIY would save me money, but it was case of penny wise pound foolish. The ends of my hair were green (purple hair that had faded) and red from a colouring job some time ago & because they were bleached as well, they had become brittle with time. My hair was unruly and frizzy, making me feel very self-conscious. I truly felt like a "huang lian po" or what the koreans call an ahjumma with my unkempt hair. I used to have silky straight hair so my crown of glory had truly fallen from grace. During my first session with Kevin, he showed that he understood my hair texture and condition as well as what results I was looking for. He gave me a hairstyle that compliments my face shape and also recommended hair products that have made a huge difference to how my hair feels like. I have been using the wrong hair products all these while that have further stripped moisture from my hair.

He recommended a range of Kerastese hair products that leave my hair surprisingly airy. Using my old off the shelf product range, my scalp would get oily whilst my hair remained parched. The range Kevin recommended has not only made my scalp feel healthier and less oily, it also keeps my hair light and clean without drying it out. I am so grateful for his advice in this area. I trusted Kevin and returned a second time a few days later for Korean DYNA rebonding. My hair became even softer and more manageable. I was pleasantly surprised at how my hair was not flat but appeared naturally straight with a healthy sheen and bounce to it. In this same visit, Kevin also helped me camouflage my white hair by using babylights. This has restored confidence to me. I have been very conscious about my white hair ever since they suddenly sprouted out in huge amounts. I have been trying to dye it, crazy colour it, part it differently to hide the white strands, and the babylights is truly my kind of answer. Kevin felt that doing baby lights would not only make my hair look livelier, it would further spare me the trouble of retouching my roots frequently because my white hair is not visible anymore unless you look up close at it! A friend i bumped into after my salon visit was extremely impressed because she really couldn't see my white hair. I love this technique and will definitely be sharing this with my friends who face similar issues with greying out hair as I do.

During the visit, Kevin's colleague, Rain, made sure I did not go hungry. He made sure I had access to instant noodles, biscuits, beverages & even offered to go out to get me something to eat. He switched me to a different seat right under the AC when I told him I was feeling warm. He was very attentive and I felt very well cared for throughout my time at the salon. I am really pleased with the excellent results I got at Apgujeong's Bishan outlet over these two visits and look forward to my future visits there. I am thankful to have found a stylist that understands my needs at a salon near my home. Apgujeong Junction 8 gets a standing ovation from me for giving me one of my best salon experiences in a long while.

Wrong shampoo?

Is it normal for your shampoo girl to be so rude? After shampooing my hair she told me I am using the wrong shampoo because she found my hair not clean enough.

This without even asking me what shampoo I was using. As it turned out she was trying to sell me a particular shampoo she was promoting.

I have been to other Korean hairdressers and this is the first time I have come away annoyed by the experience.

Update: I visited the salon this morning!

Try out of their service

Went there to have a haircut and wanted to try out the director's cut and end up the director is not around and I tried out their assistant director's cut, Lucy. I wanted to hear her advice on how she wanted to cut my hair, but was given none. So I told her how to cut my hair, and end up she probably didn't understood what I want. And the hair came out to be not what I wanted. And the hair was not evenly cut. And so I had to went back and it was worse than before as she wasn't paying attention to what I was telling her again. It's only one part and she cut other parts again and it became uneven again. I will not use her service anymore. I just have to wait out for my hair to grow back again. Money gone and wasted. Unsatisfactory service.

Update: The assistant director's cut is 58 and I got ten percent discount. I went on the 3rd August 2016.

Apgujeong Hair Salon: Simply Poetry in motion

Many thanks to Kyle Shin of Apgujeong for doing such an immaculate job with styling and designing my hair. The way he cuts is like watching poetry in motion. I can see why he was so in demand in Korea, especially in the upmarket Gangnam district :) Lucy Kim also was very professional, passionate and talented in the way she gave me advice on how to style my hair in accordance with my facial structure. If you want top notch, affordable hair styling and grooming, with courteous and professional staff in touch with the latest trends while able to provide advice as to what is most suitable just for you, I would strongly recommend that you make a bee-line for Apgujeong.
