Inconsistency is present

I have been to Artica twice, once in September 2017 and once in June 2018. The first time was amazing, I was extremely happy with the final outcome. Service was great and it was affordable. The second time was not so good. Service and price once again is amazing, but the outcome was disappointing. The stylist did tell me what I wanted was hard to achieve, so I understood and he did the best he could. However, the final result was blotchy and basically nearly completely black. Disappointed but I managed to get it fixed at another salon so all is good. Most likely would stick to my new salon though.

Hair treatment

I went down to Far east plaza for a hair treatment with my friend. But, the salon I went was full house and they can only accept one person. So, we find another salon in Far east plaza where both of us can do treatment together. We walked pass Artica Hair studio and the name is familiar while I read through Beauty Undercover so we decided to try the treatment for our dry and damaged hair.

The whole procedure takes about 1.5 hours. The hair stylists are friendly. Overall, not bad. May come back again.

First time @ Artica

Made a booking on Facebook and they were very prompt. When I went there, they gave me a drink and asked about my hair. I wanted to bleach and dye it but they advised me to only bleach it once to keep my hair healthy. They could easily have agreed to earn more money, so their honesty left a lasting impression. I had banded bleached hair due to DIY roots multiple times but they managed to even it out. They were kind and not too talkative (which I appreciate as sometimes, stylists try to strike conversation non stop. It can get tiring) However, if you can't speak chinese it might be a little difficult to communicate. The salon was hard to find as I am not familiar with Far East Plaza. Besides that, it was pleasant

Still acceptable

Firstly, I passed by the shop around 11.30am and was told that salon opens only at 12pm. However, I raised a few queries and Michael attended to me patiently even though salon is not in operating hours yet. (Great service attitude!)

After understanding the service prices, I asked for the earliest time I could come back to get my hair done when the salon opens and was advised 12pm. I sat in the salon for a good 6 hours (cut+bleach+color+treatment) and Michael was the only one attending to me all the while. Even till the very end, he was never impatient at all.

Also, am satisfied with the color and hair cut. All in all, had a pleasant experience! Keep it up!

Loved it

I went in a bit hesitant due to the rather mixed reviews about this place but I'm really glad I came here. Their service is excellent, they offered a complimentary drink and snack and when I was torn between what shades of blue I should dye my hair, Bell helped me to create one that was an in-between (exactly what I wanted). Price was also really worth it especially with the ongoing promos such as the student promo and the chemical treatment promo. I will be back!

WILL NOT PATRONIZE AGAIN

I told my stylist Bel that I wanted an ash green color and that I wanted it to be brighter. After coloring, I noticed in the salon that the top of my head was a lot brighter, while the rest of my hair was almost black. Bel told me that it was because of the lighting in the shop. I believed her, since it sounded reasonable. However, after a few days walking around both in indoor lighting and in direct sunlight outdoors, I can safely say that the top of my head is indeed A LOT brighter than the rest of my hair! When she was dying my hair, I also noticed that she put a lot more product on the top and less at the bottom, for some reason. A lot of my friends even commented that it looks like I only dyed the top of my hair. The rest of my hair from the ear down onwards (and I have waist-length hair) looked completely black! Why did I even pay for a full head coloring when it will only end up looking like I dyed the TOP of my head?! Also, the ash green color literally completely faded after ONE wash. I understand that the color will fade quickly, but ONE wash is too extreme. Not sure if it is the quality of the dye used. When dying my hair in the salon, I also told her that I wanted a brighter color, but in the end it looks so subtle that it's not even obvious at all. Completely not the type of look I wanted, especially when all the color is concentrated at the top of the head. -.- Bel was also very rough when handling my hair. She appeared to be in a hurry although there were only 2 other customers in the salon besides me at that time, and more than enough stylists. At one point she even splashed the dye ON MY FACE by accident. They were quite nice about it, but honestly? Never in my experience dying my hair in salons have I had that happen to me! I went to Artica because of the good reviews here and on Facebook. I didn't expect that my experience will be so disappointing. I paid a promotion price, but with how my hair turned out, I honestly don't even think it's worth the $100 if my hair is going to look black all the way and colored only at the top - basically, super weird! The service was also a let down. All in all, I won't be coming back.

Morocco Argan Oil Treatment

Juno was assisting with my hair cut when I enquired about options on hair straightening treatment. Some of the hair effects I'm hoping to see are natural looking straightened hair, softer look, healthier looking hair, easy to manage. He recommended Morocco Argon Oil Treatment which fits in my requirement. This treatment is expected to last for about 5-6 months. He allowed me to consider and make a separate appointment once a decision is made.

The treatment took about 3 hours and he checks back time to time with me on my comfort level. There are many parts of the service which I am thankful for: the recommended treatment, the care and concern during the treatment, the followups after the treatment.

One important point is, Juno does not hard sell and is confident in his products and services. With the treatment done, I will not need to use the heat from hair straightener on a daily basis, I can have more rest time since I require less preparation time. The best part is, the hair is so much more easier to manage and I do not need to worry how my hair will turn out after a day of activities!

Even my mum asked me "why does your hair look so soft nowadays?" XD

Satisfied!

This is my first trip down to Artica Hair Studio after checking them online for reviews. I've always wanted to do a blue ombre/bayalage and I've tried that at another salon (not to be named) 4 years back but it back fired as even after bleaching the colour did not show at all and I was very disappointed. Being a little skeptical I decided to just try my luck at Artica Hair Studio as reviews and pictures look really good for their bright colours. I was a little bit early and Bell attended to me. I showed her some pictures that I got online, initially wanted the ash blue colour and I explained to her that I was attending a wedding in 2 weeks time. She said that ash blue fades very fast and suggested that I do a normal blue that will not fade so fast. I also asked for her expertise on the treatment and she suggested olaplex. She also did a break down on the pricing so that I know what I am paying for and also checked on the current promotion they were having. Initially she asked me about what base colour did I want and I asked for her suggestion, and since my hair is a very dark brown/black, she said no need to add a base colour as black goes very well with blue. She suggested doing a bayalage and I was okay with it. They offer a choice of a drink (they show you a small menu) and snacks. Bell's hair massage during the hair wash was very good. Upon the final wash and blowing dry my hair I saw the blue colour appearing and I was very very happy! When I called to make appointment they said it could take up to 5-7 hours but mine only took 4 hours plus.

Hair services are very well done!

Stylist Terry was very patient in explaining the hair services and helping me decide on my hair colour. Service has improved and they even offer drinks and snacks. Lively atmosphere.


What I think can be improved
Only gripe is that the stylists talk a fair bit amongst themselves, but I am not too bothered.

Will I be back?
Yes, because the prices are very value for money (especially with the student promotion), and the hair services are very well done!  :)

Was very disappointed w the service here

Read quite a few good reviews about this place and went with high hopes, but unfortunately, was very disappointed w the service here.

Firstly, the staff weren’t very friendly at all (perhaps because im a student) and did not even bother to greet me when i stepped into the shop. They kept talking in dialect behind my back and i felt slightly uncomfortable.

Secondly, i had appointed Bel as my hair stylist BUT halfway through, she left and another stylist took charge. the person that was attending to me most of the time was that other hair stylist. Irresponsible much??

Lastly, what i was most pissed about was the results. I initially wanted a ashy blue colour but they told me that it wasnt possible. So i chose a midnight blue colour, and the stylists there assured me that after a few washes (1-2 weeks), my hair would fade to a lighter blue/grey-ish colour. HOWEVER, it’s been nearly 2weeks since i’ve dyed my hair and it is still dark as hell. Most of my friends even commented that my hair was nothing different from black.

Such a waste of time coming here to get my hair done. Must say that i am quite disappointed. Also, i’ve notice that you all hardly attend or reply to these feedbacks/reviews. This just goes to show how much yall lack customer service and genuine-ty in giving your customers the best. Would not recommend.

Very sorry for not meeting your expectations. We checked with our stylist Bel on what happened to see how we could improve.

Firstly, it is essential to bleach your hair to see a brighter blue colour. That is why an ashy blue cannot be achieved without bleaching. As you were not keen to go for bleaching, Bel suggested a midnight blue which will be more visible on the parts of your hair that was previously bleached (and not on the whole head). Bel would like to apologize if her explanation was not as clear as it should have been and has promised to evaluate her communication skills to improve in this area.

Secondly, in order to keep our prices low and affordable, one stylist has to attend to more than one customer. Our very experienced assistants will then take over to assist the stylist in chemical services such as colouring, perming, rebonding and hair treatment. Still, the stylist in charge will be fully accountable for the final hair outcome.
For you, Bel ensured that she did a thorough consultation with you and the initial sections of colour before guiding the assistant to do the rest of the hair colouring!

Finally, we’re sorry that the staff didn’t appear as friendly as they should have. We have taken note of your feedback and will seek to improve. As for the use of Cantonese, we will also try to reduce our usage in that area. However, this will take time as this is the native language that they use back at home. We hope that you can understand!

Staff talking behind my back in Cantonese

Liked the outcome of my hair, but will probably never go to this salon ever again. I don’t appreciate some of the staff talking behind my back in Cantonese. Maybe you guys should figure out your customer’s dialect or mother tongue before talking bad about them.

Disappointing colour

I went on 2 Feb morning for the CNY promo (cut/colour/treatment) and was utterly disappointed with the colouring. The first thing I did was to warn my hair stylist that my hair is very black and there is a possibility that the colouring might not be obvious. So I need a colour that can be seen after colouring my super natural black hair. My hair stylist said that I no need to worry and just let her know what is my preference and she will do exactly to my choice colour. And the outcome was exactly what I had feared. When she had finished washing my hair (after treatment), she asked me to be mentally prepared that the colour will be dull. I am short sighted and I can't really see my hair colour but when she made such a comment, I knew it must have been a failure. Her explanation was that they cannot use the "cover the white hair" method to colour my hair. I was in no mood to hear her stupid explanation. From the moment I spoke to her, I kept warning her that I don't want an outcome where I can't even see the new colouring of my hair due to the naturally super black hair. If whatever method will affect the final colour, then shouldn't she had approached it differently. How would I know what 'method of hair colouring' to use to achieve my desired outcome!!!

As I do not wish to create a scene by starting an arugment, I just kept quiet and left the salon. I couldn't even bothered to find out her name because after this disastrous session, how could I find the courage to step into the same salon again. Her comment was there is still a bit of the 'new colour' and my black hair now is not so black! I spent that amount to reduce the blackness of my hair and not to have a new colouring???!!!

She may be a nice person but in terms of professionalism....there is a lack of it.

Colour combination and design is spot on

For creative hair coloring, I really really recommend going to Artica.

I went to Artica for coloring service twice and my stylist, Bell, never disappoint. First time, I went for Ombre balayage (light brown) and second time, I had blue block coloring on light ash brown base color. Bell's artistic vision and technical skills mean that the color combination and design is spot on. Just show her a photo of hair color, design that you want and some other things you want like not too obvious for work or you want crazy design, she will personalize and create it for you!!! I will never trust anyone else with my hair colors except Artica ( Bell)

Friendly hairstylist

Went to artica on 30 January for hair ombre.

Pros: Kenny was friendly, he will recommended me which colour that will suit to my liking and he did almost similar from the image I show. I'm completely impressed with kenny's colouring skill. Hair wasn't completely dry after bleaching as I'm very concerned about hair damaging but Kenny managed to make my hair smooth with the treatment. So I highly recommended to top up the treatment for best result. Another good thing about the services is when you requested for a drink they will serve together with a biscuit and while washing hair, Kenny will do a short head massage and it was very comfortable. *plus point* He is very gentle with my hair and he will say what he is going to do on my hair while washing.

Cons: I'm wondering is it the shower head design or the way he hold on the shower head because the water will splash on my face a little so I have to touch up my makeup after doing my hair. Next, over use of canto but I not very concerned about the language. And next one is when kenny asked the other stylist, i can't remember his name to serve me the drink, I saw lipstick stain on the cup, I hope the next time you should wash away the stain before serving. Will I visit artica again: yes I will and my family and friend love my hair ombre color. :)

Artica Hair Studio is more specialised in colouring

Wanted to perm my hair initially but i did ombre colouring instead in the end as recommended by Terry. Turned out pretty nice and I quite like it :) Thanks Terry, and his assistant Charles. Both of them are friendly and outgoing :)

What I think can be improved

I think it would be better if can stick to the same stylist. (For example, cutting+bleaching+colouring+treatment+washing all done by the same person). It will be good also if there’s a permanent rate for chemical services for students as it can be rather costly (depending on what services)

Will I be back?

Yes. In my opinion Artica Hair Studio is more specialised in terms of colouring as compared to other salons. However for other services like perming rebonding etc I am not so sure as I have not tried yet.

Service could be improved

Booked an appt for hair colour. Did not choose any stylist since I have never been there. Was served initially by Terry when I reached and subsequently by another guy, Charles (i hope is right) as Terry was engaged by other customers. Colouring etc all went well and im alright with my final hair colour and most of the service provided.

However, service provided could be improved. I guess I'm not the first that comment they are too Cantonese speaking among themselves. It kinda irritating when they keep talking and laughing and didn't pay much attention to customers' hair details. Colour dye was splash over my forehead and I had to wiped it away myself for the first time? The second time he noticed it and offer to wipe away because it's his finger that brushed the colour onto my eyebrow. My hair wasn't dried completely by them.

I only realised it when I run my finger through my hair after I left the place that inner portion of hair was wet. No serum or hair oil was applied on my hair after the blow drying was done even though Terry commented my end is weak and fragile. It's the first time salons acually didn't apply any serum/oil/cream on my hair.

I see other customers had their hair being curl and style in place while mine was no styling etc and worse it was half dried hair?

I'm not sure is it because he had another customer waiting in line for him.

Best haircut in 20 years of existance

I was looking around to get an affordable haircut, and I came across Artica online. Reading some of the reviews which stated that their haircutting skills are not up to standard, I hesitated for a while. However, I was on a budget, so I decided to go for it. To sum everything up, I had the BEST HAIRCUT EVER IN MY 20 YEARS OF EXISTANCE.

My hair stylist Bell was patient and professional; her nose bridge was bleeding when I came for my appointment and it looked like it hurt a lot, but she handled herself very well and carried on. Sigh. Why did I not find this salon earlier??

Oh oh! And I love the little drink menu they offer at the beginning! It is definitely a plus point to their already-established hospitality :)

Perfectly straight, soft and shiny hair

Recently done trioxxy at artica by juno. I'm very impressed and happy with the end of treatment effect. Juno has taught me on how to maintain it straight by needing to blow dry with dryer. Despite without using my dryer and my hair still perfectly straight with soft and shiny hair. Really worth my money spent. Juno is very patience and honest. He told me honestly that this is not rebonding and don't expect very straight like rebonding effect. 100% thumbs up for juno Hair work and his sincere and honestly towards his customer. Definitely will patronise again and give recommendation to people I know.

Great experience

I have visited Artica for a number of times, but this time, I decided to try out a different stylist. I took the Christmas promo package of creative highlights + olaplex treatment.

Terry was my stylist and I highly recommend him with his awesome skills and meticulous nature. He advised me with the different colours that I could do for the creative colouring and I ended up choosing blue. He also took the initiative to choose / recommend a base colour to match. Of course, it turned out looking awesome and I have gotten plenty of compliments on the colour so far. (:

I was abit paranoid of how it would turn out at first and I kept asking him questions, but he was very patient with explaining to me the processes and I really appreciate that. He also handled my hair very carefully while dyeing and trimming and took the effort to make sure every step was done properly. I also liked that he attended to the processes the whole time except for the shampooing where Charles attended to me. Unlikely other salons where the appointed stylist are only there half the time/when neccessary. The atmosphere was very fun and enjoyable with the efforts to make small talk as well as to joke with me. They made the whole experience much less boring/painful having to sit there for almost 6 hours straight. Hahaha ! Also, they checked in on me to offer more drinks/biscuits from time to time which I thought was really sweet.

Last but not least, Terry was also very honest when he noticed a tiny bit of hair at the bottom which was not properly dyed. He took the time and effort to patch up that spot although the salon was almost closing.

Overall, it was a really great experience and I would definitely go back again for my next dye job !

Thank you for this amazing cut and colour job

The last time i coloured and cut my hair was more than 5 months ago and I desperately wanted a change, one that is subtle and not in your face. I have been on the look out for good hair salons that are well versed in their hair colouring services and i chanced upon Artica Hair Salon. Since they were having a christmas promotion, i decided to give it a try.

I tried making an appointment via their webpage, however no one got back to me. Ended up calling their booking hotline a day in advance and i booked my slot with my hairstylist Bell.

First thoughts when arriving at the salon was that it was smaller than what i thought, but the service provided is comparable to other more renowned salons i have visited previously. As she was attending to other customers as well, i had to wait for her but it was quite a short wait which i really appreciated.

After showing her the colour i wish to achieve and the cut, Bell offered me her suggestion and also gave me a heads up about the procedure she was going to take. She even informed me about the price without me having to ask which is a major thumbs up!

I wanted a Bayalage ash brown with streaks of platinum blonde towards the end but due to the nature of my hair, i was only able to bleach my hair once. Bell was clear in conveying this to me and the expected end colour with only one round of bleaching.

After 3 hours in the salon, the final result of my hair colour was no where near what i wanted initially, but it was even better than i expected! The ash colour bayalage that was professionally done really gave me the subtle change i wanted and i received a lot of compliments on this new hair colour. Bell was also skilled in trimming my hair according to my instructions which brought out my desired hair style even better.

Thank you Bell for this amazing cut and colour job! I am totally sold and would definitely visit Artica again for fresher looks in future.

Hair turn out like a bird just pooped its period on my head

I visited this place one afternoon with my friend after reading the reviews on here and was confident they were able to bring life to my boring, virgin short hair. While my friend had an amazing experience and left the salon very pleased, I, on the other hand was thoroughly disappointed.

I showed a few pictured of girls with grown-out roots-looking platinum blonde hair. I had no specific instructions but just to mimic the looks as close as possible. I did not think it could go very wrong.

I did not get to see the progression along the way due to 3 layers of bleach being applied and reapplied and aluminium foils with each layer of hair. With so much bleach applied on my hair, I expected a level of consistency in the colour. While I understand that my hair is on the thicker side, I believe hairstylists should be well-versed in various hair types as well as how to achieve the best results for each hair type. For the price I was paying for short hair ($248), I really expected more from Kenny, the stylist in charge of my hair that day [I got the name Kenny from the name card given to me before I left the salon].

There were two of them doing my hair intermittently that afternoon, which of the two Kenny was, I was not sure. But one seemed more senior than the other, giving instructions to the junior stylist initially. Midway through the first round of bleach he left me in the hands of the junior stylist, only to return 5 hours later to dry my hair after the last wash. I noticed that the front portions of my hair closer to my face were only bleached twice while the rest continued their 3rd application. In addition, I found that the bleach was loosely applied on my hair, not evenly applied throughout each section and the aluminium foil was loosely pressed down against my head, barely enough to keep the bleach within the hair. Despite this, I thought nothing of it as I assumed the stylists had their own technique.

After the 3rd round of bleach, a session of toning and a final wash, I finally saw my hair. I was in shock but tried to hide it to maintain a polite demeanour. Amidst the platinum blonde, I had streaks of orange (which I assumed would be platinum as well, because CONSISTENCY.) This was when the senior stylist returned and tried to hide his shock at the sight of my hair. Only then, after a whole afternoon of frying my hair, did he tell his junior stylist how he should have done my hair to avoid such a result. I was very annoyed by then but didn't want to make a scene. I asked the senior stylist why there were orange streaks after he kept quiet and tried to tuck the orange streaks below the platinum ones. He laughed and said he tried his best and this was an expected result.

Mind you, the only disclaimer I got when I was given consultation was that my hair might suffer breakage from the bleaching. I left the salon after paying my $250 and immediately tied my hair up in a ponytail. I felt so self-conscious the entire night because I was not even given a back view of my hair, which was common protocol for hair salons after each dye/cut job done. I am not blaming the salon as a whole, because my friend had a very positive experience there and was very happy with her blonde balayage. I just hoped to receive some sort of disclaimer or warning that my hair might turn out like a bird just pooped its period on my head. Would I return to this place? Absolutely not. Maybe if I was about to shave my head bald and had money to spend.

I would come back in a heartbeat

Stylist Name: Bell and Carol

as soon as I walked through the door, they were very friendly, professional, and accommodating. I was also a new client (first time to this Salon) and they were so willing to answer any questions I had about the techniques they used as well as giving me feedback and suggestions about what I wanted done to my hair.

Environment: Very clean and simple, which I love.

Price: Reasonable. In my opinion, what they charged was reasonable for the quality work that they produce. I was very satisfied with my experience.

Effectiveness: The stylist and technician both gave me feedback and advice on aftercare and even gave me suggestions on which products to be careful of purchasing that could potentially damage the coloring.

Will I be back?

ABSOLUTELY! I would come back in a heartbeat. This was my first time getting my hair dyed in a hair salon/studio and I couldn’t be happier with my experience. The staff was very professional, easy to talk to, and gave constructive suggestions that fostered what I wanted when I walked in.

Picture speaks a thousand words

The place is nice, comfortable and spacious. Stylist name is bell, she is also friendly. But that’s really all.

What I think can be improved

Picture speaks a thousand words. I wanted to do balayage ombre, and even showed picture. Was quoted the promo price for $288. After my hair was done, I was clearly upset because there was no ombre at the ends like the picture I showed, it was really just balayage and so I was asked to pay $188 instead. I also paid $50 for olaplex and $34 for the purple shampoo that they sell (which doesn’t work, see pic).

From the moment my bleach were removed from the foil, I did not get to see my hair. Even the hair coloring was done in the hair wash sink. I don’t want to question her technique used at that time because it may be her style of doing it. Although I had never done hair coloring at salon before, but I did my research and saw alot of video of how it should be done. But anyway, the color turns out to be disappointing.Uneven coloring, messy everywhere just horrible looking.

I was really really upset, but the stylist told me the color will fade to blonde. So I’ve waited. Just see the picture. While waiting, I will still hoping it will turn out nice. But it was just all false hope.

Will I be back?

No. Despite their reputation for good hair coloring services, I don’t think the price I’ve paid justify for the hair coloring job I’ve gotten.

If she would have told me after my first bleach that she can't deliver what I want, and suggest other alternative rather than just proceeding to continue to color my hair knowing it will eventually look like that, I wouldn't have such ugly looking hair now. What can I do with all these bleach hair now? It's not ombre so I can't just chop it off. What a nightmare experience.

1. I was not told that the color required 2 to 3 bleaches. While she was doing the first bleach i asked her how many times do i need to bleach my hair. She said she have to see the result after the first bleach. After the first bleach nothing was communicated and she immediately colored my hair at the sink. I was only told that my hair might not be able to sustain a second bleach after the final wash when shes ready to style my hair to hide all the imperfections.

2. Speaking of haircut, thanks for mentioning. I actually told bell right from the start i wanted to cut the back of my hair straight about one to two inches. However as soon as she cuts finish she immediately blow and curl my hair and i wasn't given the opportunity to see the cut until everything was done. At the point i was already so disappointed and sad with the hair color i could care less about the haircut.

We tried to find out what happened from Bell to see how we can improve. From what Bell can remember, the colour you requested require about 2-3 bleaches for your hair. Your hair condition was however not strong enough to sustain two bleaches even with Olaplex and our other hair treatments.Although Bell did mention that it may be difficult to achieve the exact colour you are looking for with only one bleach due to the hair condition, she may not have communicated that across as clearly as she should have and for that, we are really sorry. The difference in the model's and your haircut styles may also have contributed to the final result.

Overall, we apologize for the miscommunication and am really sorry that you did not like the final hair outcome. We have relayed the feedback to Bell and we promise to improve on our service in the future!

No bleach ombre

I have done a lot of researches before deciding to have my hair done in Artica and it did not disappoint! I told my stylist I wanted to have ombre hair and he picked and mixed some very nice ash brown + lighter ash brown for me in order to achieve the look. I love how natural it looks and how light the end of my hair has become! I have been told so many times in other salons that they wouldn't be able to ombre my hair without bleaching since my hair was fairly damaged due to constant perming but Artica gave me this top-notch brown ombre without having to bleach. I am very happy with the result.

Plus I only paid less than $200 cos of the promotion. Last time I went to another salon in Bugis I ended up paying more than $300 for one tone coloring...This will for sure be my go-to salon from now on. At least for coloring!

Never fail to give me a beautiful hair colour

Third visit to Artica for hair colouring by Juno and he never fails to give me beautiful ash colour. He understands what customer wants to achieve and will always make me leave the salon with beautiful hair. Definitely trust my hair in Juno’s hands. Many thumbs up!

Very statisfied with the final outcome

Got my hair done by Terry and i was very statisfied with the final outcome. I was hesitating with doing my hair in Singapore and has never done once , but he proved me wrong and that it’s worth my every penny. Tho busy , but he doesnt let me feel that he is hurringly finishing his job. Service was attentive , skills was done promptly , greatly. Totally recommended .

Patient and professional service

Stylist was Terry. Patient and professional service. Price was alright as they had occasional promotions. High efficiency as I only spent 2 solid hours in the salon for but+ colour+ treatment. He was gentle and engaging with small talks that made me feel at home. Enjoyed my visit and first hair salon experience.

Fantastic job on my hair

I was getting bored of my uncoloured hair but yet I needed something practical so I decided that I wanted to do a brown balayage. I decided to go to Artica after seeing their catalogue on Beautyundercover and I liked what Juno had done for his previous customers. When I first met Juno at Artica, I insisted that he wasnt Juno because he changed his hair colour drastically and I couldn't recognise him! It was hilarious because I insisted that he wasn't Juno and he had to prove to me that he was. Anyway, he did a fantastic job on my hair. It was exactly what I wanted. He was patient and professional and he made sure I was well taken care of. Thanks Juno! I would definitely recommend his services to everyone.

Reasonable prices and no hard-selling

I was looking for a hair salon known for its coloring expertise and offers cheap bleaching prices and Artica Hair Studio seem to fit the bill. There are many bloggers who talk positively about their coloring experience from this salon and the price for bleaching also seems very reasonable; $75 for the first and $30 consecutively. I decided to go ahead and make an appointment for this salon.

Consultation:

Located at the 4th floor of Far East Plaza, the studio is simply decorated and while not entirely neat, was brightly lit. It is quite small but does not feel claustrophobic. I entered the salon and saw that the stylists all seemed young and had tastefully colored hair which put me at ease immediately. A stylist welcomed me, lead me to a seat and asked what I wanted to do. I showed him a picture and told him I wanted to have my hair bleached until it becomes this certain ash ombre shade. My hair had been bleached twice already so he was very hesitant to bleach my hair again, saying my hair seems very dry and might not take the chemical assault. I do not know if you have the same experience as me but I have heard this spiel many times in all the other salons I have been to. Don't you find it amusing that salons and hair magazines always prominently show pictures of bleached hair in many funky colors, but in real-life, the stylists behind them are the ones who most vehemently discourage you from bleaching your hair? Well, I guess they really just want you to have realistic expectations; that the color will not last long, with your hair yellowing and irrevocably losing its shine and moisture in the process. I feel that while partly they do not want to be responsible should the results be disastrous, mostly they just have your best interest in mind. But still, it can be quite a disappointment to know that the hairstylist that a mere mortal like me cannot possibly achieve and much less maintain my dream hair.Anyway, after talking for a bit and seeing that my heart was set to have my hair bleached, he relented to bleach it once and see from there.

Bleaching and Coloring:

After the bleaching solution was applied, a heated lamp was placed behind my head. This is a first time for me as the past salons I went to usually just left the solution to set as it is. I guess this is to expedite the lightening process? I wonder if it can cause additional damage to the hair? Well, I guess I just have to trust them. After some time passed and my hair was washed, he examined my hair and told me that he cannot bleach a second time, seeing as it was too damaged. Seeing that my hair looked brighter and less yellow than before, I accepted it. He then proceeded to apply ash color to my hair.A different stylist was tasked to wash my hair all throughout. Oftentimes, shampoo bubbles and water would splash on my face and she would apologise. Their washing bed was quite comfortable on the head and the body so all is forgiven. Her head massage, although brief, was excellent and forceful. She was friendly and engaged in small talk from time to time. After the treatment solution was applied to my hair, I proceeded to ask the stylist some questions with regards to maintenance, to which he patiently answered. I was also appreciative that there was no hard-selling whatsoever of products or other services. Let me just say though that the staff will attempt to talk to you in Mandarin even though they can speak English. They also like to banter to each other in Cantonese, which I thought lent a young and lively atmosphere to the place. I did not mind so much as they always checked in on you from time to time and made sure you are not kept waiting.When the treatment was washed away, I saw that my hair had achieved a good ash ombre color. There were still some streaks of yellow color that the bleach was not able to eliminate, but I am still satisfied with what was achieved.

Haircut:

The stylist then proceeded to cut my hair. He seemed quite confident and comfortable with the scissors. I thought my hair was cut really well, except that it was not really the style I wanted. It was the same length as in the picture I showed, but not the same design. So if you want something complicated and not just a trim or some straight non-layered cut, I think you should really get them to listen first before cutting, or go to a different salon.

Overall:

Reasonable prices and no hard-selling. A lot of deals that can be spotted in their FB page.Bleach and coloring skills are good and will go back for these services. I would like to see how their highlights fare though as I am not sure if they are any good. Head massage was quite good too. I would go somewhere else for elaborate haircuts.Service was good as they help each other and take turns checking your hair, making sure you do not feel neglected. The staff are quite friendly and though not chatty, will engage in a bit of conversation. They need to be comfortable in communicating in English to customers though.

Fixing a botched hair dye job

I went to Artica to fix a botched hair dye job that was done by another (more famous and unreasonably priced) salon. At the previous salon, I had requested for a balayage but walked out mortified, with black roots and an orange mane. I booked an appointment immediately with Artica after learning that they were famous for their hair colouring services. My stylist was Bell. After assessing my hair's condition and the colours in it, she recommended that it would still be possible to do a subtle ombre with shades of brown, bringing my hair back to a more natural state. Bell was with me throughout the entire process and took extra care to ensure I did not have to face any further hair disasters. My only word of advice for girls and guys looking to go to Artica is that the stylists are mostly mandarin speaking with varying degrees of English. At the end of the session, my hair had been restored and improved beyond my wildest expectations. I am very happy with the result. The salon is quaint, no posh furnishing or fancy refreshments, but what it lacks in luxury is made up by its affordable services and reliable stylists.
