Gene by Ginrich Hair Salon @ Wisma Atria (CLOSED - Rebranded to Salon Solo)

I have my hair cut here regularly and the stylist are generally very good. Pity the counter staff looks like she is overworked and underpaid or feels that customer service is not important. Booked an appointment for 815pm and when we arrived, had a most unhappy reception from Esther the counter staff. I was wondering what happened till she said grumpily that your appointment is 730pm. Instead of an apology, I get this black face from her. Some re-education is called for but I’m not sure if the salon is even interested in this aspect since all the other staff were rather nonchalant about this.

After reading the many reviews on beautyundercover, i decided to go ahead and book an appointment with Gene by Ginrich! I’ve always gotten my haircut at neighbourhood hair salons cuz yknow, it’s so cheap plus i cant see the back of my head so i dont really care how it turned out lol. But after this experience, i think i will keep going back to Edison! First of all, the people there are really friendly. And i always thought it would be quite intimidating to get a haircut at such places cuz it feels a bit atas to me. Also, the scalp+hair treatment smells sooo good i really like it! Secondly, i didnt even need to be stressed over what i wanted to do with my hair. I didnt get the usual “how would you like your haircut” question. Instead, after the treatment, i was told “i’m gonna cut it short and layer it okay” so confidently i just went “orh okay”. So yes, no regretz! These people know their stuff. But most importantly, they dont try to sell unnecessary things, and prices are really reasonable. So thanks again!

I have a scalp care treatment package at another salon but my therapist is busy (as I decided at 5pm to go for hair treatment) I called in and asked if I can pop by for aveda scalp and hair treatment. They were kind enough to slot me in at 630pm. Vynn was great (hair messages were spot on) and my scalp felt clean (apparently it was just slightly oily with some oil flecks) and the hair ends (damaged from bleach and dye) felt moisturized. Will definitely go back (interchange sessions with my other package)

Visited Ginrich the second time after 6 mths to have my hair colour done. Derek advised me on the disadvantages of bleaching and how it can ruin my hair. Still i chose to go ahead with it. Was at the salon for almost 6hrs. Bleached twice, dye, 4 washes, 1 treatment..it was worth it...With the treatment and all the TLC that i received from the team; (Derek, Vynn, Yang and 2 more i forget to ask their names..sorry :() my hair was smooth and silky like it has never been bleached. Being in the salon for that long I can actually see how the Ginrich team works. They really work as a team. Kudos to ALL of you. Thank you for your great service and having the patience with my request. :P

It's been a year since I last went to Catherine for a haircut. I had shoulder length and bleached coloured hair before I came in the salon. It's been a while since I had pixie hair so I trust her with such cut. Before the cut, she went through with me on how I wanted it to look. I had highlights done too as I've already had previous colour on me. She never disappoints me and I love my cut & colour so much. My colleague praised I look younger with the short do. So any ladies who's looking to do a short cut, do book with Catherine! :)

I fixed my appointment with Ginrich in the hope that they could fix my hair problem. Went to another salon a week before, requested for my hair to be coloured and cut to a bob style. but i seriously do not know what it turned out into. after reading reviews that Ginrich can rebond short hair so i booked my appointment and was really impressed and delighted. my hair was fixed, hair treatment was great too. Derek was nice and hospitable. we chat like we've known each other. he understands my hair needs. and i came outta the salon a happy customer. will certainly book my appointment with Derek again fro my future hair issue or just to pamper my myself. :)

There's no one else I would trust my hair with except for K Edison! I've been going to Edison for more than 10 years and there has not been once I'm dissatisfied with the wonderful creations that's come out from his creative hands. Edison is always ahead of the fashion trends and very creative with his artwork (i.e my hair!).

I always have strangers stopping me on the street complimenting my about my hair and asking me who and where I got my hair done! So if you are looking for someone who can make you look like a trillion dollars, look no further! Call up for an appointment with Edison now! ?

I haven't had anything done to my hair more than a year prior, so I was really excited to get something decent done.

My sister has been a loyal customer of Derek's for like almost a decade, I think; so, sick of shifty neighborhood salons (the only ones I could afford), I decided to wait out for a year and tag along with my sister on her next appointment. Derek was really friendly and made sure to ask for specifics. I didn't have any, though – I just wanted a cut and digital perm to give some volume to my flat hair. He proceeded to flip through a few magazines with very Korean-/Japanese-like curls and made a few suggestions.

I honestly didn't have any preference, so I left the decision up to him. I had the misconception that my hair would appear significantly shorter after the perm, and therefore decided that I would have my hair cut about two inches longer than my desired length. Derek was careful to point out, however, that the chemical used for digital perming would make my hair slightly "elastic" and that the weight of my hair would drag itself down too. So I just told him what I wanted the eventual length to be, and let him do the rest! It turned out nicely.

Lesson learnt: always ask the experts before making any assumptions. My only gripes would be that the curls aren't holding up as well as I would like – they would only be at their full potential after they've been through a whole process (lotion + blow-dry + hairspray), and ain't nobody got time fo dat, but maybe I'm just lazy and that's what I'm supposed to do every day – and that the place was so crowded when I was there and it made me a little uncomfortable to look vulnerable in front of so many people... Completely unrelated to the quality of the salon, though! So don't mind me.

Overall, very satisfied. And they had a promotion for referrals at that time, so both my sister and I were entitled to 30% off and it was such good value! My bill came up to $222 before GST.

I went with a friend to use the month's promotion of 30% off all hair services. my friend did her hair previously with Jamie, and this time round, we got Jamie as well for the both of us.

Overall, I had a very good experience. Jamie is really nice, and well experienced. She went above and beyond to understand the haircut/style that I wanted, and even did a quick "background check" before going on to recommend a hair color that I might like and look for. She doesnt mind telling you if she thinks that a haircut is excessive now, and will ask you to instead, come back again 2 months later for it.

This is someone i know i can trust my hair to, and i was right! Both of us liked our hair and the styles that Jamie did up for us.

If there is something that I would say is a little less positive, it is that the salon can get really busy and crowded.

I had a really wonderful experience at Gene by Ginrich Hair Salon last week.

I wanted to have a change in my hair colour, but was worried about doing something too drastic that would draw too much attention. However with Catherine, I felt that my hair was in safe hands. She was able to recommend and create a beautiful galaxy hair colour for me that fit my needs exactly. I had subtle purple highlights on the outside of my hair, funky pink colour hidden inside that would be only viable if I tie up my hair.

As usual, Catherine was meticulous with my hair and took her time to make sure that it turned out the perfect colour and perfect style. i really appreciate the amount of effort being put in. Meanwhile, the staff at the salon had also been very patient and welcoming as well. This made me feel really comfortable and at ease while I waited for my hair to be done. I really loved my new hair colour and the great service provided.

Would definitely visit this salon again!

I liked Gene for their pretentiousness despite the upscale location. The staff I've met are pretty down to earth and deploy no hard-sell tactics. It's important that they don't make you feel bad about the state of scalp/hair condition unlike some other salons (EQ is impt!).

Prices-wise, think the rates for hair cut and scalp treatments are competitive/affordable for their location (not sure about the rest so not in position to comment). Mainly visited for the latter and the entire experience is good so far (staff is quite knowledgeable).

It's also definitely a bonus that there is no need to sign up a entire package upfront and one can just visit as and when required.

I have been following Derek for many years now and he has always given me very good advice for my hair. Going to a hair salon is always a relaxing experience for me because I know that I am in good hands with him.

Gene by Ginrich is located in a very convenient place but it also quiet and cozy. The service here is impeccable and the staff are very friendly and hospitable.

Totally love getting my hair color done by Relcy! A very creative stylist who never fail to delight me with her coloring skills. Usually, I just relax and leave it to her to decide for me. And each time, I'm very happy with what she has done for me.

She definitely knows what she's doing, and the end results never disappoint me! A loyal and frequent customer to have more hair works done by her. Possess a very friendly and cheery character which always makes me smile brightly and comfy throughout the entire session, which I'm sure the experience is equally important to us customers. The feeling of comfort and satisfaction.

I have my keratin treatment done meticulously by her too.

As a frequent color changer, I appreciate the effort she has constantly put in to take good care of my hair condition. At times, she will introduce a few Aveda hair samples that are suitable for my aftercare.

Highly recommended to approach for her service and you will never leave the salon with disappointment!

I've always wanted to have a ash grey hair color. And Edison has successfully attained the color without damaging my hair. With the intensive 5 step treatment, my hair is maintained to be healthy and not become further damaged due to the coloring. The ash grey color is further maintained regularly through the glossing technique. Edison has been my stylist for the past 15years and has never once disappoint me with any of his creative works done onto my hair. Edison has been my hairstylist for about 4 years and I have not gone to anyone else since following him. He is very creative with his cut and loves to play with colours. I was introduced by friend to this salon few months back when I wanted to cut short hair. At that time, I was really tempted to change to short hairstyle but unconfirmed to do so because I can't find any hair stylist which i feel trustworthy. So after recommended by my friend to GENE, I decided to make a try. Edison is the hair stylist I met who is very responsible. He's not like any other hair stylists I met before who will ask what style do you want and said ok I will cut for you no matter it fits you or not. But rather, he will give advices which better fits you. It's never disappointing to go GENE. For this time, thanks to Edison, I managed to try out a new style - short bangs. I was really scared at first and did not dare to cut it because I have a horrible experience last time for cutting bangs. But in the end, I still tried because I trusted Edison. And the result is that I REALLY LIKE IT (feels so cool). Really thanks to Edison, and thanks to GENE (for their good services). Big thumbs up!

After a disastrous hair cut last Sat at one of the bloody reputable salon that results in my hair being cut unevenly, i decided to find a good salon to fix it. After researched, i found that the reviews for Gene by Ginrich Hair Salon were pretty good and decided to chose this place to savage my hair (im glad that i made this decision!)

The following points explains why:

Location - It's located at Wistma Atrium. Few mins walk from Orchard MRT Station and its damn easy to locate the salon (Its near to the Wistma taxi stand).

Ambience - It feels cozy and comfortable in the salon.

Most importantly, the staff there makes me feels welcome. Hair wash by Vynn (I hope i got his name right) - His head massage and hair washing skill and were awesome!!!!!

It was so good that i do not mind paying to get my hair wash done by him next time. Everything was just perfect and i like that he doesn't talk to me while washing my hair (other than checking with me if things were fine)as i do not want water to get into my mouth. Thumbs up!

Hair Cut by Derek - For all his great reviews in beautyundercover, i hereby certified that these reviews were true and fair. He is patient in explaining the styles that suits the conditions on my hair now and even shown me some pic on how it will turn out (super plus point). He took his time to cut and perfect my hair without rushing over (p.s. i have very very thick hair, not kidding). And of course, the haircut exceeded my expectation! Price - At such an atas location and most importantly GREAT services, it's very reasonably price. Paid $46.40 after 20% discount as i quoted 'beautyundercover'.

Overall, i confirm will visit the salon again!

I was originally going to do the Aveda Hair treatment ($200 for my tres long tresses!) after getting a haircut ($58).

Then I realised that I only had $100 cash with me right when I was at Wisma Atria with my IB token tucked safely at home…(thanks to my clumsy chubby fingers while mbanking yesterday to BBONE – more of that here)

I ended up just getting a haircut bc 

But it was a great haircut.

Let me first explain my extreme phobia of haircuts how my hair became what it is today and why I chose to go to Gene despite the higher prices (for a student like me).

When I was younger(sometime when I was 11-15) I had really short hair. Now while it’s true that some people can rock short hair (shoutout to BBONE and her ‘shampoo commercial worthy’ hair) I was not one of those people . My mom is a lifelong advocate of short hairhaving gone through the 80s Afro hair trend and lots of other hairscapadesso naturally she did not want me (or my Sister) to suffer the way she did. So she brought us to the Neighbourhood $5 haircut salons and shaved our napes. What resulted was not the edgy Hannah Hart hairbut a weird mushroom cloud thing due to the hair on top being lower than the shaved ones below. Those were really bad hair days-I remember waking up with bed head and just going to school without doing anything about it. My short-lived 14 year old crush even gave me the nickname “caveman”.
 

I was crushed. Not because of my crush’s comment but because I really felt very shitty with my mushroom head and basically very ugly and inferior to my Sister who was just a year younger and could kept her hair bc she went to Nan Hua where basically all girls wore braids. Now my face basically hasn’t changed much since puberty many people have noticed that but my hair has – and not boastI love my hair now and it seems that so do my Bs). My hair transformation started when I was in Sec 2where my Mom caved in and let me straighten my hair (at this hair salon with a hair straightener for $20 and cheap ass relaxers). With the rebonding my hair got straighter and longer andseeing what I could do with it gave me hope for my hair. When I was Sec 3 I played around with my hair/ hairstyles so much that my ex (bless his soul I was such a bitchy Girlfriend but he was equally insecure) thought my mom was a hairstylist (the same Mom who got an Afro! Nothing wrong with Afros just that Asians/my mom look real bad with them).

Fast forward to the present day I’ve rebonded my hair countless times I’ve dyed my hair(at home and at the salon side note DO NOT dye long hair alone at home) and I’ve also permed my hair. The only thing I haven’t done is to cut my hair. There were a few trims between hair jobs but nothing really serious … Lately I’ve had trouble sleeping. Because of my dry hay-like hair. Several times I’ve also woken up with hair in my mouth and in my belly button ¿¿ Moreover I have been told several times that my hair was like “Barbie Doll hair”  so I went around the inter webs searching scouring for the perfect hair salon and I found Gene by Ginrich on Beauty Undercoverin an article stating “haircuts for women under $50“.

Yesthe $58 bucks I was quoted was a little over the $50 Budget but not so muchand I wasn’t gonna trust something I spent hundreds of dollars on to an auntie with horrible hair for $5. Call me judgement all but I would expect hairstylists to have the best hair out there.

And boy did this hairstylist have good hair  dark brown is a pretty boring but healthy Colour (his words not mine) but the quiff was it.

I made appointment for 10.30 am through FB and when i reached there it was pretty much just me and the staff which was great!

The entire haircut/ wash lasted for about an houri think it was Relcy (check her out under the Beauty Undercover stylist tab for Gene)  gave me the best hair wash (what do you call it?????) i have ever had in my life. I have/had long thick almost waist length hair and it is so dry and so hard to manage. Took quite awhile to wash the entire bush but throughout the wash she kept checking on me if the water was okay if the pressure was okay which was really nice (and expected of a salon with so many good reviews!). Did i also mention that when i walked into the store (i guess it was since i was the first customer) they were all extremely attentive and helpful giving me biscuits warm towel and asking if i wanted a drink (they had a lot of options but i just stuck with water). They even placed a tube of Aveda hand cream for me to use! Just for a simple haircut!

Before i had the amazing hair wash Derek took a look at my hair and pretty much condemned half of the entire bush (not hard to see why) and he seemed pretty surprised when i said i didn’t want to chop it all of. After the haircut I could see why- this was a hairstylist who was very invested in producing the best results on the healthiest hair! We chatted a little through the haircut he asked me about my hair colour (even i don’t know what colour it is…kind of ash green balayage??) . Then he went on to explain my hair condition how it was so thick and heavy the length was pulling my hair down and breaking it out of my scalp as well as how dry bleached hair is. Another thing worth noting is that it seems most hairstylists in Singapore (or at least the ones I’ve visited) are more comfortable speaking chinese because while the conversation started in english when the Chinese portion of my extremely fluent singlish came through he switched straight to just plain chinese.

That being said the customer service here is great! The staff all are extremely attentive (maybe it was because they weren’t particularly busy but even then it was great to have their undivided attention) and after the haircut he even curled my hair using a curling iron (at some point i mentioned that i wanted to get a perm to liven up long hairbut he cautioned me not to because perms were even more drying than bleaching and after that my hair would truly be unsalvageable.) Even as I was leaving the salon (while promising to return tomorrow for the hair treatment- because  i like to treat myself) the staff (And i think it was Dawn the director/ co-founder) were really bubbly and even gave me some samples for hair products/ hair masks i asked recommendations for! Definitely would return here for the haircut (but in 3 months timebc i’m poor)

For years prior to knowing Dawn from Gene Salon, I would Salon hop in search of one that could be skilled at cutting thin hair mine. More often than not, I would walk out of other hair salons feeling meh. This completely changed after I met Dawn, she understood and visualised my hair like no other. She was able to manipulate my hair through her artful colour placement and precise haircut. Treating my every last strand of locks with integrity and precision. This is a salon that would NOT oversell just to make that quick extra buck. They would respect your opinion and would only suggest what your hair needs the most. (I never felt the pressure to buy extra shampoo or packages like other salons.) I also would always feel younger with every cut Dawn bestow upon me because she works the hair style to my current style most of the time. The cherry on top of the cake is that Gene/Dawn would tell you the truth if your hair can handle the chemical treatment or not. UNLIKE other salons I have visited, they would just do it and allow my hair to break or fall with out warning or advise in advance. Hence therefore when I met Dawn and her team, I knew I met someone that truly respects my hair with their Heart. I would also like to add on by saying DAWN IS A MAESTRO AT CUTTING SHORT HAIR! Everyone has a role and a part on completing my overall look in my every event, occasion and work.

I did my hair one month back and only to write a review today to really monitor my hair condition a month into bleaching and see if my hair texture is still as smooth. Well, I will have to give Gene a 2 solid thumbs up! It's still soft and I have no problem brushing through my hair. I have always wanted to try loud and fun colours on my hair only fearing that it would damaged my hair, thus I only dare to dream but not do it until I found Gene. I'm glad I can finally entrust my hair to them. Relcy and Vynn took extreme good care of me during my visit, I strongly believe the people and ambience played an important role as we are spending a good 3-5 hours in that salon if you're getting your hair bleached/coloured. I'm extremely happy with my end result, I will definitely visit them again for new hair colours or hair cut in the near future. Gene did a great job and I'm really impressed with their service, a big thank you to Dawn, Relcy & Vynn! I'll be back again in no time (:

I'm a westerner with curly hair. I've tried many hairdressers in Singapore but Annie at Gene is the first person to understand how to cut and manage my hair. I can now wear it curly with no frizz. She is also great at colouring, just subtle highlights to enhance my mid brown hair.

Even though its not a big salon, am actually happy of how cozy the salon feels. The lighting though dim gives the feel of privacy especially from the road just outside its windows. Have been indecisive on how I should do my hair but Derek was patient and addressed my concerns and im glad i took his advise! Had plentiful of compliments on my new hairstyle after this. Best part is that i didnt have any regrets about cutting my hair (I usually do!). Was worried the shoulder length hair would curled up in the wrong directions but thankfully it didnt, as i followed Derek's instructions on how I should blow dry it. Love the color results and also happy that Derek didnt hard sell on anything. Overall a comfortable and happy experience.

I have been visiting Gene for coming 3 years now, and have been going back to them every month since. Each time, I'm still leaving the salon with satisfaction! The staff are attentive to their customers needs, which is one of the most important aspect for working in the frontline for providing customers service. Beverage and reading materials are being offered within seconds after settling in. There were once where a friend of mine who spent hours in the salon getting a hair treatment , and she told one Esther she was feeling hungry and wonder if she could step out of the salon to get some food. Minutes later, Esther came back with a cupcake! It's always the small thoughtful gesture that brightens up a customers' day. They are also never pushy about hair packages and products and it's one thing that keeps me going back to them. I believe good products and services speaks for themselves. Knowing how particular I am about my tresses, Derek has always been very patient in providing valuable opinion and honest advice for hairstyles which I'm unsure of getting. I know i can always count on him for effortless and easy to maintain hairstyle. Friends and colleagues have also been asking about where I get my haircut from and it further assure me that my tresses have always been in good hands. All in all, I'm happy and pleased with the services provided by the team and will continue to go back to them as there's no reason for hesitation!
