Shape of the cut didn't suit my face

I went to I*CON Shunji Matsuo by Lily Xu today for a cut and a perm. The cut was $65 and digital perm was $355 and Lily was my hairdresser.. I've got a regular hairdresser at People's Park who charges around $160+ for cut and digital perm. The reason I decided to go for a change was I wanted to see how much better a haircut/ perm I'd get if I paid more. It was significantly higher.

The service was pretty good as in staff were generally attentive. There were no head massages during the washes, which my regular hairdresser provided. In terms of actual skills, whilst I felt the haircut and perm were ok, they were not better than my regular hairdresser. I'm not one of those that get very emotional about their hair. My hair grows out pretty quickly so I can get over an unsatisfactory haircut quickly. I think my comments are Lily overlayered my hair and the shape of the cut didn't suit my face. I felt it made me look older. i had long hair and she cut it before the perm. Still, she gave tips on how to blow dry and maintain the style. There was no hardselling. They're pretty efficient during a busy Saturday and waiting time was short. Even walk-ins were attended to quickly.

However my conclusion is you don't necessarily get more bang for your buck if you pay premium prices.

Worth it

I walked around for almost half an hour and finally walked past I*CON Shunji Matsuo by Lily Xu.

I was in love. I mean look at the interior of the salon! I walked up to the front desk and was immediately offered assistance by one of the senior stylists there, Wilson. He discussed the prices and choices that I had regarding what I wanted done to my hair and was really friendly. You know how some stores think that they’re too elite for teenagers and anyone who isn’t an adult to afford their services and would just completely ignore you and flippantly answer your questions? Well Shunji Matsuo isn’t a salon like that. Wilson answered all my queries and wasn’t patronising in the least bit. From the moment I was lead in and sat down in one of the striking, blood orange chairs, I knew that I would be happy with the results. I had to get quite a lot done to my hair to achieve the results I desired so I had to sit down for quite some time, but instead of it all being really uncomfortable and boring, I was offered magazines to read, tea to drink and frequently asked questions like ‘Is the hairdryer too hot?’ and ‘If it’s uncomfortable for you in anyway, just tell me’ by all the stylists that worked on my hair. Polite conversation was also always going on if I participated in it and the whole atmosphere was really relaxing and not pretentious at all.

After sitting in the chair for two hours, sitting through the dyeing and styling of my hair, I was super nervous for the results because everything seemed to pass by in a hurried blur while I was sitting in the chair and I didn’t remember making any confirmed choices.

My doubts were for nothing. I was so happy with my hair that I couldn’t stop smiling the whole day. An update on my hair 2 weeks later, after washing it and styling it almost everyday, the colour is still holding up well. It has faded a little to a SLIGHTLY darker shade of red, but still looks vibrant. There is one small section of my hair that has faded a lot and has become an orangey colour, but I love that section too because the colour still looks cool haha.

I hope you guys liked reading this post and are on your way to giving Shunji Matsuo a try, haha :D For those who are really interested though, this is the price list

It may seem a little pricey for some of you, but trust me, with the service and the results you get, it’ll all be worth it. I was originally hesitant because of the price but I don’t regret getting my hair done there at all.

My awesome new hair

I just went down to I*CON Shunji Matsuo by Lily Xu yesterday to re-dye my hair and treatment.

To celebrate their 2nd anniversary, they were having a 20% discount for all chemical services so I decided to give this outlet a try. Promotion ends on the 30th August.

This is how I look like before :

I did my hair at Expect Studio located at International Building. I had bleached my hair and dyed it with Red Violet. It was really nice at first and it faded to pink colour. My fringe is very dry from bleaching but I am going to bleach it again to get a colour that I want. Since bleaching is bad for your hair, its necessary to get a hair treatment.

First off, my stylist , Simon, checked on my hair and we discussed about what hair colour I should do. I wanted to do a very bright red and pink but he said that the colour won’t last me. And if I really want a bright red, I’ll have to bleach my whole hair(which I want to avoid at all cost><) . So, I listened to his suggestions, and decided to follow through. For my base colour, instead of a bright red, he decided to mix two dyes(brown+burgundary). [We were so fired up when we were talking about what to do with my hairXD IT WAS FUN TALKING TO HIM! ^O^]

Pretty right? I'm so in love with that colour, but too bad my hair won't turn out to be like that. Ouh well, moving on.

At the same time, they bleached my fringe . Its not a strong bleach because Simon told me he's scared my hair would be damaged very very bad. My fringe had to be bleached twice because the previous colour wouldn't come off. Simon took a great care on my fringe as he was really really scared for my hair. Hahaha!! Aww~~

Wrapped it first~ and then…

TADAA!! xd

Next up, the pink dye~ Sadly, I forgot to take a picture of how the dye looks like. Aaahh!! BTW, I also dip dye my hair but with a different colour. The dye is called 'orchid pink'(sth like that), its like purplish pink hair dye.

Pink dye for me fringe~~

After all the dying is done, they washed my hair and its….NOT DONE! I still have my 2-step hair treatment~

Man, the thing on my head is heavy.
[Btw, the guy behind is Simon~ He left me aloneee:( Hahaha]

After washing and touching up, its done! OMG. Like finally…… The whole process of dying and hair treatment took 5hours++!! My shoulder was aching TT

Selca with my friend who did her hair with me~~~
[She dyed her hair brown and dip dye purple. Nice! *-*]

And now its time to camwhore with my awesome new hair

The colour really stand out in the dark. Whoo~~
(I love me pink contacts~ #justsaying hehe)

Provided excellent service

I was provided excellent service by senior/master hairstylist Lawrance during my visit to the hair salon this week. He was an excellent communicator, attentive, meticulous, patient and skilful. He's definitely one of the most impressive hair stylist I've encountered. He makes consistent effort to clarify my goals and areas of concern, provide his feedback and suggestions; before commencing the agreed service. He provided ongoing explanation to the techniques he was using & the rationale behind them. He also provided much useful hair care information. He demonstrated good understanding of Singaporean Asian women's preference, and the best techniques for various hair types. I've difficult to manage thick coarse hair which has encountered multiple poor management from less competent hair stylists in the past which have left me in near tears! I was overall very impressed with his service & the end result. The only shortfall in my experience was during the service, he was requested by the more senior stylist to handle another client and she took over straightening my hair without clarifying with him or me what Lawrance was already doing, in the end, both sides of my face look slightly different ... given one was done by him & another by her. Nevertheless, I enjoyed my experience & look forward to my next hair styling experience with him! :)

My new style

I permed my hair at the hair salon that i always patronised; Icon Shunji Matsuo by Lily Xu
at Far East Plaza. My hair stylist is Simon. To be honest, i am not satisfied with my hair
after i saw the result. It is not as what i expected. As this service is very expensive,
i am really disappointed when after i saw my hair. Simon told me that the end of my hair
is already unhealthy therefore the end result will not be as good unless i cut my hair much shorter.
But i refused because he already cut quite alot before he proceed to perm my hair.
I think he cut around 4-5 inches. It’s alot to me. My hair is already reaching my butt before
i cut and perm my hair. Now my hair is only to waist length.
And i feel that even if i cut my hair much shorter also no use, so i refused to cut.
I really feel heartache when i see my hair after spending so much money.
I kinda regretted to waste the money. I feel that my hair is ugly.

However, most of my colleagues, some friends and hus said that my hair isn’t ugly.
They even feel thati look nicer in this curly hair. And as time pass, i also don’t feel that my hair
is ugly. It’s just not what i expected, that’s why i feel sad and disappointed.
And now, i feel that my hair is quite nice. I actually love curly hair.
It give me a new look. Hus said i look more wild in my curls, he love it.
I am glad that hus love my new look because i decided to perm my hair because of him too.
I know he actually love curly hair to straight hair.
So… The final verdict: I prefer curly hair to straight hair. 3.8/5 for Simon.
And though Simon didn’t manage to get the result i wanted but his effort and skill is good.
I will and did not condemn him cause of my hair. However, the charges are quite expensive.
I shall divulge the price of the perm hair service. I spend $425 to perm my hair.
It’s very expensive right! This explains why i am disappointed at first.
Because i expect much better results with the money spend.
And also my hair is very long, there is extra charges for my extra long hair.
Plus, Icon Shunji Matsuo by Lily Xu is a more well known salon that’s why their charges
are much more expensive. And my hair stylist have just be promoted to Master.
Congratulations to Simon once again for being promoted.

Opening of the salon

My hairstylist Lily Xu at the official opening of her salon, Icon Shunji Matsuo by Lily Xu. She is just a year younger than me, and yet she’s already her own boss. I’ve been a customer for the past 6 years and I won’t go to anyone else for a cut.

I greatly recommend you to this Salon

New HAIR do, done by Lawrence. A would say, a very good experience I had in the Salon. With awesome hairstylist and great service provided. Hair Cut + Wash = 28 bucks. Totally worth the experience.

Just to share with y’all, My hairstylist Lawrence is really nice, he gave me good advice on managing my hair, he even went to the extend to teach me the different ways to maintain or set my curls. His really one great Hairstylist. Not only my stylist is good, others stylist is equally good too. Thanks to Sandy, we got to know this awesome place for a hair cut. =)

I didnt do much to my hair except for a little trimming and changing of parting. Notice the difference?

From a side parting to a centre parting. Still trying to get use to it. If you did realise, the curls on my hair looks different to. If you are wondering if I did a perm again? No, I did not. It was purely a temporary curl done by Lawrence. From now on I have to maintain and make the effort to curl my hair every single day. Lawrence said: You want to look good, you have to make the effort. Trust me, few days later, I will get super tired and lazy to do all these maintainence shit.

It was really a very Last minute decision that both lydia and I decided to go for a hair do today. We actually planned to do it only on tuesday but since we had nothing on after service today, we decided to why not just go and see what we can do to our hair.

Still trying to get use to this hair. Hopefully I know how to maintain it. Lydia is going back for a second round. She is going to have permed hair too. Sooo excited for her. Bet she’s gonna turn out to be another HOT BABE on the street. Can’t wait for tuesday to come.

If you know me well, you will have actually realise, I can’t stick to one hairstyle for long. At most less than a year. I can’t stand the side of me looking the same all the time.

Looking back. I realise I kept having long and short hair.
Before this I was all along having short hair in secondary school. I mean it was really short. Bob hair style if you know what it means and I tried bangs too. Literally failed.

Difference might not be really extreme but still at least a change. I always love changes and expecially when I want a new self after some issue happens in my life. I will do some changes to myself to give myself a new look and feel.

If you really like my hair, Sandy’s hair or Lydia’s hair do or you want to give yourself a brand new look for the new upcoming year, I greatly recommend you to this Salon.

Do go to them if you want to get our hair done really nice!

New Haircut and Color at Shunji Matsuo by Lily Xu
Went for a hair cut and color at Shunji Matsuo by Lily Xu, which was located at Far East Plaza. Saw many good reviews about it, and I had wanted to get my hair colored. I made an appointment with no stylist preference and brought my friend along too!

The shop looks really cosy and simple.

My stylist was Victor. Quite a nice guy. He intro-ed me to the ash brown color (more towards ash color) because I requested for a darker color. I was afraid that if I color something light, I might give my boss and colleagues a big shock tomorrow when I’m back at work. I didn’t want to risk that, so I asked for a darker color.

Colored my hair first and the guy who colored my hair was really patient! The last time I did my hair coloring at the salon near my house, they did it in bunches and the coloring was quite uneven. Although the coloring took some time, it was worth it. That guy was very patient as he did it by a few strands each time. After that, I was done and the color was left to set without any steaming. During that period, my friend was sitting beside me having her haircut by her stylist, Simon.

20 mins later, I got another coloring again and 20 minutes later or so, I went to have my hair washed! YAY!!! The service is really good! Its really like the one in Japan, except that they didn’t cover the face with a cloth. The one I experience in Japan, did cover the face with a cloth to avoid the water from splashing onto the customer’s face.

Anyway, I’ll make things short from here.

After washing was the trimming of the ends as I requested for trimming only. And then treatment! During the treatment process, I did gave thought on changing a new hairstyle, as I’m abit sick of long hair. But I wasn’t suited for short hair cuts as it would make my face bigger, so I stick to long hair. Then I thought about having medium length hair which was quite good. So I told Victor that I want to cut it shorter and he took out a mirror and asked where I want to cut up to. I chose 2 inches, which was quite alot to me. Haha!!

And it came out really nice. Got my bangs shorten too, but its abit too short. Initially, it was cut straight, but after that I requested it to be cut slanted abit.

Overall, it was a good experience and I’m definitely going back there again for another hair cut or color next year. I might go in November to color one more time, and then going back to Japan to do another hair coloring n cut at Collet Olive! Too bad, my hair stylist in Japan isn’t working at Collet Olive anymore *sad*

I must really thank Victor for being patient coz I’m a very super indecisive person. And I can’t make up my mind if I want to have my hair cut or not,coz I did mentioned that if I cut it short, I would regret badly. Not only that, he also asked me if the color was alright twice.

Do go to them if you want to get our hair done really nice!
