Good Massage with No Hardselling

I purchased a Groupon 3 months ago and finally got to use it here at Lifespa PrestigeTwo. The decor was slightly dated but still looked OK for a spa.

Everyone was friendly from the receptionists to the massage therapists, always with a smile on their face. Tea was served promptly and the therapist was attentive in asking about the temperature and the use of a heated bed.

The massage was however so-so for me as I felt as the massage didn't feel like it was done on the right accupressure points. Still, it was relaxing for the one hour, which was what I needed. I also liked it that they offered me a choice of oils without asking me to pay a premium.

After that, the consultant asked for feedback and did not do any hardselling at all, making the entire experience very pleasant.

A value-for-money massage that left me feel like coming back!

Customer satisfaction

I been a customer for quite sometime but recently my visit is not something that I'm looking forward. And at times I'm thinking if there's a way for me to ask for refund.

Reason : Facial is something every woman looking forward but recently it became a mental stress for me. As I still have package I have no choice but to continue with the facial services.

My bad encounter :-

1) as my face and skin kind of sensitive, thus I got to remind the Beautician to be soft when doing extraction. But somehow it doesn't work on my last visit to one of the beautician and end up, my face was red for three days and especially my nose bridge was red for first few days and follow by dry and skin peeling off due to the overly extraction. And for all you know, my skin is not those who had serious problem. Only with some white head issue and occasionally break out if used too rich products.

2) I still continue to arrange for facial since I still have few more facial sessions and requested to change another beautician. This time no issue with the overly extraction but... the way she shape my eyebrows. though everyone has unequal eyebrow, but I guess she's doesn't need to shaved it to the extend that it is just so obvious that my eyebrow is left side up while right side down!!! This is totally a disappointment and I'm now considering for a refund!

Review: Groupon LifeSpa Massage @ Carlton Hotel

Disclaimer: I paid for the service that was provided and this post is entirely based on my personal experience and opinions.

So, I finally went for a well-deserved massage last Thursday.I bought the massage voucher for Lifespa from Groupon some time back but because I was so busy, I only managed to arrange for a session last week.LifeSpa is two outlets (I think). I chose the one at Carlton Hotel because I had a play to watch nearby at night, so it was perfectly convenient. To reach the spa, you go into Carlton Hotel and turn right (if you're facing the check-in counter). Then you go to the lift at the premier wing next to gravity bar.The spa seemed quite insignificant from the outside, maybe because the waiting area is really small. But the first thing that I noticed when I went in was that all the counter girls were very well-groomed. I was asked to fill up a form with my personal details and my preferences during the massage (i.e. how strong you want it to be, and whether you would like the Swedish, deep tissue or Javanese massage). I chose firm with deep tissue. While I was filling in the form, I was served ginger tea and it made me so happy. I had the same ginger tea at this massage place in Krabi and I loved it so much. LifeSpa was the first spa that I went to that served that exact ginger tea, so imagine my excitement. I was then led into this couple room and told to change into the disposable underwear and shower cap.The room was quite big (because it was a couple room la, duh) and even had a tub and shower facilities. The massage was one of the best that I had in Singapore. Most of the massage places that I've gone to in Singapore cannot compare to the ones in Thailand. It somehow feels as if something is lacking. But the massage at LifeSpa was really good. The masseuse was strong and constantly checked if everything was alright. She even offered me a heated blanket in case I felt too cold. They did try to sell me a massage package. It was actually quite a good deal. around $80+ for a one-hour massage plus free scrub/soak/some infrared thing. But it was out of my budget so I didn't get it. On the whole, the after massage sales was a bit hard sell. Like, when I told her I didn't want to sign up for the massage, the sales girl asked "whyyy, you don't think our massage is good?" After insisting that my mind was made up, her face kinda turned black. Oops. But I would say that on the whole, the experience was very pleasant and well worth the money spent.

Well done Lifespa!!

I was given a gift voucher by a loved one to try out lifespa massage and facial package.
I decided to go with the massage.
I had a wonderful lavender scrub , a hot shower and a superb massage.
The massueu by the name of Anna from Carlton Hotel Premiere Wing was simply fantastic.
She was patient and tried to understand my pains. She did it with utmost professionalism ,
asking me in between the rub downs if it was too much pressure or not.
The thermal pad on the massage bed was warm and invigorating. This was something new to me.
I’ve had many massages but non with a thermal heat pad on the bed.

Anna gave me advice as to how to improve my circulation as well.
after the session, I had a discussion with one of the consultants.I was surprised as she was not pushy as she laid out the packages for me. No Pressure.

Overall, it was a wonderful experience. I would recommend this to anyone who wants to feel pampered.Well done Lifespa!!

Rude spa service

Recently (12/04/2013, Friday) I went for my well-deserved massage at Lifespa at Triple One Somerset. I was assigned with a therapist. When she first started the session, she hardly use any strength. I told her to exert more strength but it fell on deaf ears. Again, I told her to use more strength, but such request was ignored. It was merely a ‘touch & go’ session!!!
The session ended with me feeling more tired and annoyed! My body is still aching and my shoulders are still as stiff.

I gave feedback to their consultants that the session was horrible, and instructed them not to assign to me in the future.

On 17/04/2013, Wed, I called & informed Lifespa that the therapist’s massage was a bad job, it was a truly a ‘touch & go’ session despite my request to exert more strength.

The consultant whom I spoke to came back with a reply, a reply from their manager!!!!
The consultant said, “My manager say, you should stop the session and request to see the consultant!!! Now, the session is over, nothing can be done!!!!!”
Can you imagine this is the reply from the manager, who is suppose to manage and guide and supervise their staff???? What an irresponsible reply??? Stop and request for consultant when i am NAKED??

Perhaps Lifespa has grown to such a scale that they have forgotten their old clients. I started my beauty regime with them in 2000!!! I was a regular client until 2010 when i reduced my monthly visit to quarterly visit due to tight working schedule & family commitments.

It never pay to stay loyal to Lifespa. Once I exhaust my current package, I will NOT take up new packages with them.

Receptionist’s hardselling was rather unbearable

I have both a massage and a facial package at Lifespa. I liked my first couple of facials there as the therapists weren’t bad and the experiences weren’t painful. My mom likes the massage, especially the boreh mask. But at my last facial, it was extremely painful and the therapist was unmoved even when I indicated that to her. But having said that, her massage techniques were good and I like the facial massage.

But the receptionist’s hardselling was rather unbearable. It doesn’t make any sense that a customer who has a package has to endure hardselling of new treatments after each session, when there are still several sessions left in the package. I hope management will take note of this. It’ll be nice if they can learn from the Japanese spas such as Ikeda, or the beauty salons such as Musee, where there is absolutely no sales talk at all after each treatment.

Won’t go back again

I paid $30 for a body massage at LifeSpa sometime in November 2012 and won’t go back again.
The masseur is new and the massage was ok she is nice and polite. What I didn’t like was the hardselling at the end. The consultant gave me a fed-up look said “ok” in a very unhappy tone and walked away when I didn’t want to sign up for package. Not uncommon at beauty outlets.

I like their service very much

A group of readers have been asking me about the facial place that I visit. And I guess to save you guys from the hassle of emailing, I shall share it here

The facial place I go to is called LifeSpa, and I’ve been with them for a good 2 years or even more (Renewed my package like thrice or so). I like their service very much, actually, in particularly, my beautician’s service. In fact, my package was based in Carlton Hotel but my beautician moved to the other outlet, which I followed suit after – that’s how much I adore her service! They have two outlets, one at Carlton Hotel and another newly opened at TripleOne Somerset (You might still see the Pacific Plaza Outlet on their website, but it has recently closed down and shifted to TripleOne Somerset.).

My package enables me to switch between Massage or Facial, though I usually just use the facial side. The package consists of different facial treatments depending on your skin condition on the particular day and I love it that they always do Diamond Peel for me. And each of my sessions comes with an additional eye treatment or ampoule too.

I think I’ll be rewarded an additional facial treatment if I refer someone, but not sure if you are comfortable with me referring you or you prefer going straight, it’s entirely up to you. Haven’t exactly shared about this before nor referred anybody else before except for my girlfriend, Applepie, a year plus ago, but if you wish to let me benefit in some ways, I can refer you and hope to make sure they don’t charge you an exorbitant price as compared to my package (that’s if you are looking at the same thing)! Hee.

My face after the facial felt really clean and has a faint glow to it

She started with cleansing my face. And I love the smell of the cleanser. She then assessed my skin and told me that because of my dry skin, she’s gonna recommend a diamond peel and then a hydrating mask. I nodded and she left the room to get a machine for the diamond peel.

The machine was like a mini low-powered vacuum. I was surprised that she didn’t put any cream on my cleansed face and turned on the power. As she rolled the applicator on my face, it felt like a scrub with suction. I don’t think people with sensitive skin can try this treatment as after the whole process, my face felt like it was scrubbed quite abit. But no doubt, my face was squeaky clean.

She then did manual extraction on stubborn bumps. I like the rose water toner she applied on my face after. It felt soothing.

After putting some creak on top, she started massaging my face and arms. It was relaxing! And because I had a 15min eye treatment, she applied a thick layer of eye gel on my eye area and used a warm applicator in circular motion around my eyes. I could almost drifted to sleep. The warmth was suppose to help with blood circulation. I have tried eye treatments with cold applicators before but it didn’t have much effect on my dark eye circles.

After that she placed warm oatmeal mask on my face, I know it’s oatmeal because I could smell it. And it smelt so edible, it made me hungry. I don’t know how long the mask was left on me as I fell aslp. After she cleansed the mask off, a warm towel was placed on my face. I don’t know why, but I like it. I would’ve liked it even more if there’s some essential oil on the warm towel.

It ended with the usual routine. Toner, cream and a short massage of the back.

I like it that the staff did not try too hard to sell their products. Don’t want to feel stressed up right after a spa. My face after the facial felt really clean and has a faint glow to it. But the glow faded away after the second day. If you want some instant result, you may wish to give Lifespa a try but if you want results to last, I’m afraid you’ll have to return more often.

I hope you get a good service like what I get!

Not only that did I give myself off, I also went for a spa session (popular member’s birthday offer) at life spa, Carlton Hotel. I went to spa sessions in Batam twice last year and I never tried before Singapore spa service. The therapist (did I spell it wrongly??) or Masseur that was assigned to me was really good. I dislike those beauticians or therapists or Masseur that keep promoting their products or talking to me non-stop during my facial or spa treatment.
Normally, I preferred a quiet and peaceful treatment where I can relax myself, don’t you think so? A spa/ facial should be a time for you to relax. I really cannot stand those who kept on having convo with me. I WANT PEACE!

But however, the Masseur was quiet throughout the treatment. She only talks to me before the treatment begins and in between when she doing applying oil on my back or asking me to turn over. She was really good. I like this kind of treatment. The ambience everything was awesome. $20.00 w/o GST for pre-trial was definitely a good birthday treats.

And.. They didn’t hardsell so much after my session. But I sign-up for a 10 sessions package with them at $700.00. But I paid for 6 sessions first while the remaining balance will be paid at a later date. This was a student price package for your info. (I signed this package secretly, SHHHH… I didn’t tell my parents at all..)

For those having DBS credit/ debit card, I strongly recommend you to go for a session with life spa. As for DBS cardholders, you get an offer treatment at $28.80nett (if I am not wrong of the price). Just go and pamper yourself once in awhile, isn’t a bad idea afterall.
I went to forum to read reviews of them, I would recommend Carlton Hotel instead of Pacific Plaza outlet. If you want to know more and why, you can go google for forum on them.

Overall experience: 8/10!!
P/S: I hope you get a good service like what I get! =))

Massage at Lifespa

Overall Experience: ★★★☆
Service: ★★★☆
Ambience: ★★★☆
Price: $$$$

This is NOT a paid advertisement and I’m reviewing this on my own account.

My colleague asked if I wanted to go as there was a 1-1 free at $48 promotion by DBS. Loving massages even though it’s ticklish, I said YES without much thought! I was definitely more excited after the last massage at body contours.

It was a short walk from Orchard MRT station. It’s towards TANGS/Lido direction. Some might find the walk a bit far but I’m okay with the distance. We headed to pacific plaza and the spa centre was actually right at the last floor; right in front of the escalator! No need to even find your way around.

We were showed to our seats after waiting for a while and the small room actually had 2 cups of ginger tea prepared for us on the small coffee table. I didn’t even see the lady put it there! Impressive, I have to admit. The tea was definitely yummy and very relaxing. After 5 minutes or so, the consultant appeared, told asked if us to fill up some administrative forms while explaining to us what massages we will be having.

We had:
Deep Tissue Massage
Balinese Boreh Mask on the Back
The consultant introduced us to our masseuse, who led us to our changing rooms. The lockers are placed outside and not within the massage rooms. A little like the gym style. When we were ready, we were led into separate rooms for the massage. My masseuse was a really nice lady (Aunty) and she asked which type of oil would I like to use. They had lemon grass, lavender and another that has no smell. I chose lemon grass.

She first did the Boreh Mask on my back while massaging my legs. So there was no time wastage during the 1.5 hour spa! What I really liked was that the beds were warmed up so that we won’t be shivering in the aircon room while they were massaging. My last experience with body contours was cold… I had the option to off the heater but I prefer it there even though it was a little warm.

The deep tissue massage was really good because I had back muscle aches the following day but it felt really shiok! You just know it when massages are good! I prefer tough massages that kneads away your stiffness. I know some ladies have lesser pain resistance and prefer the aroma therapy light massages.

There was a little product introduction by the masseuse but I chose not to go into it and she didn’t try to hard sell, which was good and she provided a good service overall.  After the whole relaxing massage, we were led into the same room and this time, there was 2 bowls of yummy warm Chinese dessert prepared on the coffee table for us. For the 2nd time, I’m impressed because I never had done for me before. Will definitely love to go back there when I have the spare cash flow to do so!!

The only thing that I wasn’t so impressed was when we didn’t want to sign up the package, the consultant attitude turned really bad which I didn’t liked it. I don’t know if she accidently dropped or threw the file at one corner when we said we’ll give it a pass for now.

LifeSpa @ Pacific Plaza

I went there today for a facial. It was a regular facial but it is interesting. Very different way of doing it. The products used are from Italy and are herbal stuff.

She started off with cleansing my face, followed by the scrub. Instead of using a steaming the face to allow for easier extractions, she used a black mask to extract the blackheads and whiteheads. For stubborn blackheads or whiteheads, she will do manual extractions.

What was interesting about the facial was that she actually used massage oil with essential oil to massage the face. This is the first time I ever had massage oil on my face instead of my body. The lavender essential oil was very soothing and relaxing. Unfortunately she is not that skilled with the shoulders massage though she is fine with the face.

After the massage, she applied two masks on my face – a deep cleansing mask and a soft mask which is icy cold. After about 10-15mins, the masks were removed and moisturizer massaged into the face.

The room is pretty small and the bed was tiny. Not a very comfortable place. The spa is opened to men and women though. They are closed on Sunday which is a pity. I will be trying the massage another day.
