2nd time at the Nex outlet.

Mine was a very simple and easy cut - straight cut, just 1.5 inches shorter.

My hair stylist was so nonchalant, he asked me what cut I wanted, I said same as previous and he said okay. He cut really quickly like in 10 mins. I didn't think much and was quite happy because it looked fine.

When I reached home, I realized both sides are different. One side particularly was so obvious that it's not straight, it looked like there's two layers.

Horrible. I've cut straight cut so many times and haven't met one where I can see such an apparent flaw.

Recommended by my niece, I went to Mystique thinking that I could save some money on a perm as the salon I frequent at Orchard was starting to charge exorbitant price, perhaps due to the generous tips I give. It was a decision I would later regret as I ended up paying $436 (for perm and cut, the latter of which I don't recall the hair-dresser doing it as she specifically said that she will only do it during my next appointment as I intend to keep my hair long). Even so, I remembered my niece saying the price for perm includes cutting.

I was persuaded to purchase hair tonic costing more than $200, due to my falling hair -so she said.

Upon agreeing to buy the product, I was also duped into thinking that her offer to teach me how to use it was done out of kindness, not knowing that it meant an additional cost of $75 for what she termed as "hair treatment" with the steaming haphazardly done (which again I thought is part of the perming).

Together with another bottle of hair cream she hard-sold me, I came out of Mystique, telling myself never to:

1) go to a salon that is so small in size (space) that there is no way you could cope with such "harassment" without feeling bad if I "shoot down" all their offers.

2) go into a salon recommended by your friends or relatives without finding out whether they have made known to her hairdresser my place of residence. Hair dresser will always ask "where do you stay" to see if it is worth their effort to "work" on you.

In my case, I told the truth (Orchard vicinity) because I wasn't sure how well she knows my niece. It is also for the same reason that I didn't kick a fuss over her unethical act - I just do not wish to make it difficult for my niece, in Chinese, we say, "I wanted to give face to my niece'.

And to top it all - there was no official bill or receipt given. The consolation of it all is that, yes, I am happy with the perm.

But would I ever go back again? A resounding NO...no....no

Every year, I get my hair done once at the Mystique at Bishan St.13 by Annie together with my boyfriend, who gets his hair cut by Nicole. Nicole is an amazing person who has great PR skills and so far, seems to be the only hair dresser that remembers what my boyfriend's previous hairstyle looks like, so if he wants it done exactly the same way, she makes sure it stays the same. Annie cuts and curls my hair for me. She is awesome. five out of five times, i show her a picture of what i want and she cuts it, exactly as the picture is shown. Even curls. I wanted curls I saw from SNSD's Jessica and I showed Annie the picture. The hairstyle came out exactly like the picture I showed her. I have recently had my hair cut by Annie again and it is exactly as shown in the picture I showed to her.

I would greatly recommend anyone to come to the Mystique at Bishan because the duo working there have excellent skills that seem to have gone unnoticed. They are not hairdressers that do what they think is nice or what they want, they are hairdressers that listen and execute the haircuts according to what their customers actually want.

Cut, wash and blow I was charged at $28 not even $19!

My sis have passed me her haircut and wash package because she is fed up with the hard selling tactics that the hairdressers in mystique have practiced on her on her visit.

not wanting to waste her money, i continued to visit this salon to clear the my sis’s unfinished package

on ALL my visits to Mystique Nex, their hairdressers will ALWAYS try to hard sell different products to me. if i reject one, they’ll continue to sell me other products, treatments or haircut packages. From what i’ve observed this tactic is probably taught by their directors.

I was okay with them hard selling to me, as long as they cut or dye my hair according to what i told them.

But my last straw was an encounter with a tomboy short hair female hairdresser who wears specs few days ago. She’s the manager of mystique nex and unwillingly cut my hair because all her staffs are busy.

My experience was that she did not take me seriously and after i told her that i wanted to trim my hair, she just assure me that i’ll definitely be satisfied with her skills.

then she made BIG SNIPS and cut my long hair into shoulder length short hair. I was shocked and reflected to her that it was too short. then she made all excuses trying to explain why it is so short. i don’t need her excuses, because i just wanted to trim my hair. Worst still, my haircut was obviously uneven.

the feel she exude to me is that she is in a RUSH and she had no time for me. She just knows how to talk to customers and sell products, probably the sole reason why she is the manager of that shop.

I really love the haircut done by Eric Goh who is working in Mystique at Serangoon Nex. His skills are that good that makes others turn heads when they see me. I will continue to visit the salon. His hair cutting fee is reasonable . I am totally satisfied...

What I liked about the salon:
The moment i walked into the small salon, i was welcomed by every stylist in the shop with their big smile. I love their attitude at work and they were all very friendly,every time i visit their salon i always come out of the place with lots of informative tips to maintain my hair condition. They are so friendly that i feel so comfortable to talk to them without any obligations. Not only their service was commendable, they too have great skills. I am always very satisfied with regardless my cut, color or wash.

What could be improved:
Their salon is a little cramp in comparison with the ones in the mall but still kudos to the price and services.

Will I come back?
Yes definitely. It is very hard to come across very honest salon like theirs. They do not push or press you to do any treatments regardless how dry or nasty hair day you might be. They will always advise me to try some products in the market before getting treatment from them, they think for us in many ways. They always consider the fact to help us save money, and i find it very rare in this competitive society. I think that is the reason why their business has been so good all these years.

Stylist I go for: i don’t have any stylist that i don’t like. All are great.

How much I paid for the service:
For regular hair cut with wash and blow i paid only $19, color for 85 and highlight was 79. These are some of the prices they quote me for various treatments. I have a long hair by the way almost to my waist until yesterday after i chopped off. :]
