Tried hard selling of the prducts they keep in stores.. which they kept pushing at cashier counter.. super high priced for poor services!!

Nail Varnish for Hardcore Divers

The shop I found myself in was Passion Nails which I haven’t been to before and only chose because they were cheap and near my waxing lady who I was on my way to. After about 2 minutes I was talked in to trying Gelishwhich promises a chip free manicure for 21 days without ruining your nails.
Thrilled with the idea of short red nails for as long as I can stand the grow out (probably 10 days)I am also loving the contrast of being super groomed before I rough it with 5 dives a day over a long weekend. And it cost just $30 (that’s $2 a day if you keep it on for 15 days – not bad).
I had Hawho painted brilliantly and I’d ask for her again. Removal costs $10 (free if you do another Gelish treatment) and also includes cutting filing and a regular OPI polish.

Date with David

Thanks to Asience’s media exercise I was given the opportunity for a hair makeover by celebrity hairstylist David Gan of Passion Salon.

I have to admit, I was rather nervous prior to my appointment. Firstly, I felt like I had “betrayed” my hairstylist Eugene of 7 to 8 years. Secondly, I didn’t have locks like Ziyi – what would he do for my hair? With my hair length, there’s only so much one can do. Of course I was unduly worried.

Although this wasn’t the first time meeting David, it was definitely the first time he’s going to whip his magic on my hair!
Upon arrival at the salon at Palais Renaissance, while waiting for David to arrive, I was given a relaxing shampoo using Asience products first, followed by a scalp & shoulder massage.
Ahh… what a nice lunch-time treat.
When David finally waltzed into the VIP room, we discussed a little what to do with my hair. He was going to give it a trim then he recommended a perm to give my rather-flat hair a volumising boost. Grrr…eat! A perm?!!! Again, I battled within as to whether that was a good idea even though I’ve been meaning to get a body perm to give it a nice lift. Luckily he didn’t see my hesitations. I decided to go with his recommendation and pretended to act cool, calm and collected.
Meet the mane man in action

Throughout the session, we were chatting like old friends… he started telling me about his new house which he was slated to move into in May/June. Then he told me his fantastic travel tales while on location shoots with Zhang Ziyi. The scoop is that Kao has a GINORMOUS budget – when it comes to shooting Asience TVC with Ziyi. Well, let’s just say, he was paid somebody’s annual salary per trip (David, please can I be your assistant on your next trip?)! Like the making of big-budget Hollywood films, fireworks were used once while shooting in Prague, with each costing a whopping 25,000 euro (imagine how many they had to use to get the right spark going – you do the math). Can’t believe he was sharing all these details with me… but then again, he’s probably told all his customers as well.
When he was done cutting, his assistant started to prepare my hair for the perm. Geez, it was nearly 20 years ago since I last had rollers set on my hair for a perm!
Keeping my fingers crossed I’ll look OK…

It took all of 10 minutes for the perm – was set even before I could slurp up all my soup! David ordered lunch in for me from Marmalade Pantry.

David does a final show and tell – explaining how and when to use the new Asience Essence Lotion.

Voila! Me and David cosy up for a quick snapshot.

OK, admittedly, I felt like I had tai-tai hair – kind of lost the edgy spunk that I was more used to. Nonetheless, I liked what he’s done for Zoe’s new crop despite the recent bad rep re Fann’s funny do.

FYI, David charges $309 for a haircut.
