Desperate service and owner
Went for the relaxing hair massage with blow dry and willing pay the ridiculous price of $35. Massage bed ended up as a stage for upsell of special shampoo for $5 or hair treatment for $$ because my hair was “dry” – relaxing indeed.
While blowdrying my hair – the stylist strategy was so poor – he just grabbed my wet hair and starting to curl it and the rest of the roots of my hair was frizzy – i said i want it straight — and he was upset and said – i thought you want curl — i said hey i can change my mind. Then a phone call from my son’s nurse saying my son had an asthma attack- i hurriedly went to cashier/owner/Yen/Jessica i said sorry i have to go – she said you still have to pay the full price – i said no way — she said its not our fault if you don’t have time. I said what??? where are these people from? I ended up paying $25 for a wash.
If it was not a medical emergency i would have stayed longer — anyhow what does it say when people are desperate like this?? No wonder the place was empty and the massage beds looks like its infested with insects, mites and bugs — I am itchy writing about it — you should just call sanitation to slap them a fine. Bad move when the service people and owners are desperate. WIll not go back!!!

Will definitely be a frequent customer
Decided to give the outlet above cold storage a try yesterday. All I can say is that I left the salon a very pleased man. I had an amazing haircut by June which was mature yet versatile. I will definitely be frequenting this salon.

Mess and trash-like hair
Details of Visit
I went on the 9th of January 2013 and was served by Jeanie. Overall, the digital perm cost me $275.
What I liked about the salon
The nice interior design.
What I think the salon could improve on
I’m very disappointed with the hairstyle I got from Yen’s Hair Design – It wasnt even close what i requested.
I feel like my hair is mess and trash-like hair now. Even though I warned them several times, they kept saying they did right even though it looks just disaster. my opinion… I could not see any curl upper part.
Also, the boss just said what she wanted to say. never listen.
I don’t think I’ll come back.

A Yen for a Haircut
When we first moved to Singapore Sophia tried several hair places. There was the $500 treatment that took 4 hours. She left the salon looking great with perfectly straight hair and a chic style. By the time she walked the three blocks to our house it looked like and afro (not that there’s anything wrong with that). She tried a very cheap place and wouldn’t you know – it was a lousy doo. I got my first cut in Asia at a hotel in Bangkok and it was fine but it is kind of a long way to go every few weeks for a trim.
At some point someone recommended we go to Yen’s. Yen’s is one of the 1000s of hair places in Singapore and one of probably a dozen places in the Holland Village area. It’s on the third floor of a kind of a shopping mall. The mall is not plush by any means and has a grocery store, some gift shops, tailors, clothing stores, a few foot massage and manicures places and several salons. It is frequented by a lot of expats who live in the area.
So we went and we keep going back. Beautiful sisters Jessica (Yen) and Jolene are in charge. Jolene makes the business work and Jessica cuts hair. They are really nice women who came to Singapore from China many years back and started their business. They can both be found at the shop 6 days a week (the place is open all seven days), pretty much all year round. In addition to a nice cut I also enjoy a great shampoo and scalp massage on their flat bed shampoo tables.
It all adds up to a very nice experience. (Sorry to my barber of over 30 years, the Gus Man!)
