“At Kenaris, most of our clients are working professionals who trust us with their limited time to look the best they can. With this tremendous level of trust, we make sure that each hairstyle we design brings out the best of each customer, each and every day.”
Tucked away in a quiet corner on the fourth floor of upscale Wheelock Place, Kenaris Hair Salon is not the type of hair salon you would randomly walk in.
The urban and spacious décor with a touch of chic clues you in to their main customer base: distinguished working professionals looking for a hairstyle that would match their personality, their style and their designation.
When asked about how they discover Kenaris, most would tell you that they are recommended by friends and colleagues who had such a good experience at Kenaris that they can't stop raving about them!
As much as the decor is comfortable, easy on the eye and convenient to get to, the main attraction at Kenaris is still its highly experienced stylist team.
From founders Ken and Aris who were prominent hairstylists to popular senior stylists Timz and Summer, each one of them have a specialty that make them very very good at what they do.
Ken especially is AH-MAZING with his cuts. Despite the relatively high prices, customers find it value-for-money as he is able to conceal thinning hair and make them look and feel at least 10 years younger. He has therefore a HUGE following among men who find that his cut can actually last more than 2 months and ladies who just love his very skillful short cuts. Aris, on the other hand, is perfect for perms - whether digital perms or cold perms, she knows how to match the cut and the perm to give ladies volume without making it too hard to manage. And then, there's Summer whose colour prowess make her among the best for balayage hair colours and Timz whose awesome cuts and colours helped him accumulate a strong following among trendy customers looking for insta-worthy highlights and perms. While all of them have their individual specialities, we love how the stylists here don't work in isolation but often rope each other in to give every customer the best possible hairstyle. Beyond stylists, Ken and Aris have also built a very skillful team of assistants who give head massage that are simply heavenly. Add their commitment towards using only top quality hair products (such as from Kerastase and Tokio Inkarami) and you've got a hidden gem of a salon you'll enjoy coming again and again.
While prices isn't the lowest you'll find in Orchard, their emphasis on delivering classy hairstyles that fit well with your personality, lifestyle and designation and actually looks awesome weeks and months along with a comfortable experience, makes them one of our favourite salons to recommend particularly for haircuts, colours and perms!
P.S. Renowned Korean stylist Catherine Choi just joined Kenaris Salon - a must-try for natural, Korean-style perms that are gorgeous and easy to manage!

Great makeover
I got a makeover from Founder Ken for my wedding photo shoot and it turns out great! Really happy with my experience at Kenaris Salon and would recommend it to my friends. (Review approved by Beauty Undercover)

Avoid this salon, do not actually deserve even a star
Terrible experience here. The services I had was a haircut and color and I was apparently assigned a senior male hair stylist. 1) He told me in order to give me more volume, he had to remove more of the sides of my hair to give me more bangs- result is a mushroom top (due to over thick bangs) which I have no idea how to do damage control 2) Stylist was only present 20% of the time during colouring, he simply left it to the young assistant who also shampooed my hair - lack of responsibility 3) One would have thought shampooing is a basic service. I had water spluttering into my eyes a few times and shampoo froth landing on my face- an obvious lack of carefulness attending to customers. Given that this has been a long standing salon in Singapore, there is a lack of quality control due to complacency (request for one of the founder was left unaddressed) and incompetent hair stylists. My advice to all is to think twice before you patronise this salon. Do not end up like me with a such ruined haircut that I could not leave my house for days. (Review verified)

1st time experience
For people who are intending to style their hair for like the first time ever , you have to give Kenaris Hair Salon a try. The process was planning , washing cutting rinsing and then styling A choice of Drinks will be provided as well It may seem pricey but trust me it is extremely worth it . If you’re worried about choosing the wrong style for your hair , what I did was to leave it to the stylist . They obviously have a lot more experience so if it’s the first time that you’re doing I highly recommend that you leave it to the stylist Don’t be sceptical about it especially if it’s your first time just give it a go ?

Disappointing experience on 2nd visit
I did my first cut and perm at Kenaris with Aris earlier this year and really loved it. Today I went back for a second, different style perm. It was different from my first visit as this time an assistant did my perm instead. To be fair I should have said something when Aris told me her colleague will do my perm – I had mistakenly assumed she meant the application of perming lotion only. Of course I do understand normally blow-dry, shampoo, application of dye/lotion is not done by the stylist; but for perm, placement of rollers, is always done by the stylist - as that has been my experience in all other salons. To be clear, I do not have anything against the lady who permed my hair today. But I had expected the stylist to do it as he/she understands what I want. After 5 ½ hours I was disappointed on the outcome of my perm as it was not what I want. Not sure if it was because it was not done personally by her? I still like the haircut though. Aris also gave me 10% discount on the haircut service which was appreciated (perm was full price).

Extremely disappointed with Kenaris experience
I felt extremely disappointed with my experience at Kenaris. I called to make an appointment for consultation and haircut for my first visit. I asked how long it would take as I need to leave the salon by 4pm. The staff said 1.5h. He offered 230pm. Then paused and said I can come at 2pm. I made childcare arrangements and was looking forward to try out the salon. On the day of the appointment, I took longer than expected to leave as one of them was under the weather. I was tempted to cancel but decided to make best efforts to make it, as I do not want the stylist to be missing a client charge for the day. I rushed and got a cab.
On the way there I realized I would run late. I called to apologize and inform. The lady on the phone told me to call them if I'm going to be later than 2:15pm and they may not be able to serve me otherwise. I told her I'm doing my best and already in a cab I paid for to bring me there, and I'm calling to give heads up on estimated delay. When I arrived I mistakenly went to the wrong lobby and was frantically looking for the unit number when I missed a call at 2:16pm. I called back and it was Kenaris saying they can't serve me as I missed the cutoff time, while I walked and turned up at their salon. So we continued the conversation face to face with me asking why can't Kenaris proceed as I'm already at the salon! I apologized for being late. To avoid impacting the next customer, I would just require a simple trim to be done within the time I have left (still over an hour). Dylan the manager refused saying its policy. I asked for the reason, why can't the stylist just cut my hair in the more than 1h left. I pleaded for understanding and flexibility to just let me go ahead with a simple cut as I've made arrangements and took a cab to turn up. All he had was "its our strict policy". I told him they should hv informed about how strict they are at time of booking, not when it's too late. I take responsibility for being late. If I had known their policy is very strict on the cut off time and no flexibility on couple of mins later, I would have reverted back to the 2:30pm timing or I would have canceled beforehand and not rush down in a cab. Kenaris has the prerogative on their policy and how they choose to implement it. Dylan running the place has the right to treat/dismiss customers as he chooses. No doubt they believe they are in the right not to extend flexibility to me, with "its policy", maybe even "this is to ensure the right customer experience". I did not get the impression they genuinely care. Maybe they don't need to as their business is already good. I think that's what bothered me the most about this experience. As a note: I booked a specific stylist but didn't mention his name as I think it's unfair to tag his name to this review, given he has nothing to do with my experience.

The worst haircut here in my life
Actually I'm surprised at all the good comments because I had the worst haircut here in my life. The very next day my friend commented that I look like I was in primary school. It's like my primary school haircut, but for $80. I can post a photo to prove it but I'm too embarrassed. I've thick wavy hair that is difficult to get right, and every stylist I know blames it on my hair, and this one was no different and even tried to argue with me for suggesting something else about my fringe. Should have stuck to the stylists at Icon at Holland Village, who are much better and have less airs about them.
Update: I visited on 3 Feb and was attended to by Kazu.

Dear Shirley
Thank you for visiting Kenaris Hair Salon! We understand that you are looking to make your hair slick and easy to maintain, like you've done C Curl Rebonding. The look however cannot be achieved with haircut alone, especially with thick wavy hair. Kazu tried his best to give you a cut that will help make your hair more manageable by cutting the inlines of your hair well so that it will stay in shape even if it grows out. We are sorry that you did not like the final hair outcome but hope that it will help make your daily haircare routine easier!
Warm regards

Good haircut will last
Thank you Wesley for doing my hair for the past few years! Loves your bob haircut. Even after 2 months the shape is still there except now is a bit thick. I can't seems to find anyone that can do that...that's why people say a good haircut will last.
You're still the BEST ;) keep up the good work!!

Treat your single hair like precious!
Jimmy Yap, my one and only trusted hairstylist who take care of my hair for donkey years (approx. more than 7 years I think). With such a long relationship, he knows well on what I want, what suit me and NEVER disappoint me. I love his bob hair cut the most <3 … with the blowing technique Jimmy taught, it’s quick and easy ;) I always received compliments from friends and being asked for my hairstylist contact, so far, they are very happy with Jimmy and they even bring their family to him
I would strongly recommend Jimmy Yap, you will always see his Passion, Patience and treat your single hair like Precious!

Satisfactory Haircut
My hairstylist was Gilbert.
He recommended that I added more layers to the back of my hair since it was all one length, and was too thick. I told him that I will allow him to cut up to 2 inches. He also noticed that my hair was getting sparse on the front area where my fringe (bangs) are. He asked whether I suffered hair loss. I told him that in recent months I noticed that there are more hair fallout when I shampooed and blow dried my hair. He informed me that this is probably because of the condition of my scalp. He said that he could smell the “oiliness” of my scalp. That comment of his, I find amusing. He said that I have an oily and rather clogged scalp. He recommended a scalp treatment to detoxifying the scalp. He also mentioned that tying my hair in a ponytail that is too tight can also attribute to the hair loss.
He mentioned that my hair was rather “heavy” because it was all one length. So he gave some layers but still kept the length. He layered the front mostly, and only trimmed the back. I allowed him to cut off up to 2 inches. My hair feels much lighter and easier to manage now. The only thing is that I find the bangs too short. But it will grow out.
I also asked for a moisturising hair treatment because of my split ends. The products they used for the treatment were from Redken. The hair treatment makes my hair smoother and softer. I saw the effect on my hair for up to 3 weeks, which is better than that of my previous hair treatment at Shunji Matsuo.
The scalp treatment was $98. The hair treatment was $138. The haircut was $109. This is the most expensive haircut I have ever had. But since Gilbert is a Director level, I am paying for his experience.
Overall, I said the experience there was a good one. The staff there took their time to do the hair treatment. The hair treatment and haircut took 2.5 hours. Gilbert knew what I wanted and the haircut he gave me was satisfactory. I will definitely come back there.

Fulfilled my demands
I went for several salon asking for something rather specific, and a lot of them couldn't not achieve what I was looking for until I asked Jimmy Yap; he was the only one that fulfilled my demands. Jimmy Yap is an excellent hair stylist and he can achieve things that a lot of hair stylist can't. Trusty amazing place, most recommended.

Very professional and accommodating
The first time I met Jimmy was through a contest. I had the honour of having him style my hair for the photo shoots. I have short cropped hair, so one would think there is nothing much you can do with such short hair. But I was very surprised and impressed with Jimmy's styling. His professionalism is seen as you observe him transform your hairstyle to something that will not only suit your face shape, but also make you feel comfortable and confident in. Everyone loved the look and the photos turned out very well. Jimmy has a lot of experience doing high end fashion shoots as well, but all this has kept him humble, friendly and approachable. I have since then gone to him whenever I need to style my hair for events and wedding dinners. I trust him and know that he will do a good job. I have also worked with Ken for a charity-related event in 2013 and I must say he and his team were very professional and accommodating. With everyone all styled up and looking good, the whole event turned out very well, and I must give credit to Kenaris for their help and involvement.

Still receiving compliments
Jimmy Yap did such a great job for my hair (thanks). Everyone was raving about the cut, the color and the highlights. I I did it in Dec 2013 and I am still receiving compliments and asking where I get my hair done.

Very professional and friendly
This evening was our Hair-styling Workshop at Kenaris Salon @ Wheelock Place. The good event organisers catered S$200 worth of hair services for each of the finalists, and 7 of us were pumped up as we trooped over to the salon for some fresh hair services. The other 9 will be doing theirs next week. After some deliberation and discussion with the director Ken, I decided to go for a hair-trim and dye-brown. Even though I just cut my hair not long ago, my hair has an amazing speed of growth and I thought it’d be good to give it another trim since I had the opportunity to. It was certainly a nice, sleek cut and I liked the new hair colour too. Gives me a fresh, slightly-exotic kind of look. It was my first trip to the salon and I thought it had a nice, spacious feel to it, with a professional and warm ambience. I must say the hair-stylists there are all very professional and friendly. They were also willing to stay past the stipulated timing of 8pm to finish all of our hair needs and I thought that was real classy by them.

He brought out my natural waves with the layering
After such a time of unwitting neglect, I went to do my hair on Thurs– Kenaris salon @ Wheelock Place has a promotion for Redken hair treatment at $69 only! It is tailored according to hair type too. My crowning glory never felt so soft and smooth, ever. Got a haircut too, by senior stylist Jimmy.
He brought out my natural waves with the layering. *Likes*
